So here it is a what you all have been waiting for! A new log from Bree!!! LOL, j/k. But seriously sorry for the vacation....I've been quite busy as you'll see!

If you followed or read my first log, located here http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-log/...-question.html, than you know that I had a pretty ghetto grow, but had a yield that was higher than expected. This time I've actually loosened up my purse strings (read: spent my arse off) plus put in a lot of elbow grease, hoping to have something a little more stellar this time around. I'm using bagseed, mostly because I'm afraid of something happening with all this new stuff. I do have some great genetics waiting in the wings....;)


Well, shall we start with the room??? I have an 800w dual spec light. [attachment=o130205] The hood is ventalated but not air cooled. [attachment=o130209][attachment=o130206][attachment=o130207] I have a 449cfm vortex attached to that puppy! It sucks the glass right up to the hood, but I am not running it full speed. I have been using a light dimmer switch to control it[attachment=o130208]...which I don't recommend since some people have told me that it could start a fire. I plan to change that.....

I also built a carbon filter but I used kitty litter instead of activated carbon[attachment=o130210][attachment=o130211] [attachment=o130212]My setup is filter, hood, fan (in attic, I also built a box for that to muffle sound). Sometimes that fan makes my head feel fuzzy when it's on....lol. Can't describe it I guess.

I have six babies going right now. [attachment=o130213] Four popped the surface on 3-16. The other two popped on 3-24.[attachment=o130214]

I just gave three of them thier first feeding of mg all purpose. I gave them 1/4 strength. I have one that is really tall (I'm thinking MALE!!), and one that is my FAV! Why? Because it is wide, fat, and plump. I hope it's a girl. The tall one has been having some droopiness and I don't know if that is due to not watering enough or it's getting root bound...whadda you think??

It wouldn't be my thread if I hadn't forgotten a few things....lol....smoke another one, Bree.....

Here is a pic of the room with the babies in their home. [attachment=o130236] They were under 40w of floro tubes until two weeks old (see pic with both compartments). Then they were put under 400w MH. Today I banged on the 400w HPS in addition. I'm thinking I may repot in the next week...then lst and grow for a week to two..then flower. Here is a pic of the bottom of my room [attachment=o130231](I haven't light proofed yet, but thinking I'm gonna). This is where I started my seedlings. This is also where the sixth baby is, if you noticed it missing from the previous post.

And finally I wanted to share my my flower/ornamental grass starts are doing really well this year!! [attachment=o130230]Prolly due to knowing a little more aboot lighting!!

I also wanted to mention so far the kitty litter is good (4.00 for that). I didn't think I had any smell to my plants until I took them out of the room for the first time to water them (I usually water them one at a time in sink in the growroom). WHOOOT it was smelly....so filter works!

From what I remember...and if you did it the way we talked about doing it, you have your fan in the ceiling sucking air thru the hood right? Therefore, ventilated...and air-cooled, right? Sorry, maybe I'm missing something. Do you mean that it's not air-cooled because you don't have an intake on it...or what?

3. Where is your fan? In the celing? How do you have it hooked up? I see you have your carbon filter in the back behind the light, right? So, your fan is hooked up to that? And if so, then how is your lamp vented? Different fan?

4. Oh...last one. You say that you built a box to muffle the sound. How did you build that? The egg-carton idea? Or some other way? I'm VERY curious about that one and would like to know how well it is working. :D

My attempt at mixed spectrum is putting a flowering plant in my veg chamber for a few hours once and a while.

i've used dual spec, seems to produce more compact buds. i havent' noted a difference in yeild, and my experimentation is down and out; not growing anymore... :(

Yes that is a stand up fan for circulation. It also is an ionizer. Only bad thing about it is you have to clean it pretty often.

Yes, I do not believe you can call it aircooled unless you are pulling in cool air from some other source (meaning not the same room). Am I incorrect in this assumption?

Actually I was going to use the egg carton thing...but eating all those eggs made me quite sick, ha ha. No, I used an off brand of a product called The Great Stuff. It is a foam spray sealant, I'm sure you are familiar. It really worked 'great'! The only sound I really have is the air rushing through the ducting. I highly suggest to anyone to control the speed of your fan as well (obviously not with a dimmer switch like I did). This REALLY cuts down on noise. With the door closed you can't hear anything unless the house is DEAD silent...which happens once in a blue moon around here......;) Unfortunately, I was half crocked when I built the box (don't worry I had help!!!! ha ha ha) so I didn't take any pics...sorry. If I have to maintenance it I'll be sure to take some snapshots....although I refuse to take pics in the attic....that's another story.

I don't know, it's highly debated. I believe Scarlet Sky is correct, it will mainly just give you denser buds...with maybe more trichs...but that is highly debatable too. I would say for yield, the 800w HPS would be best from what I have read.

I've read that a 2(red)to 1 (blue)ratio is best. I do not have any growing books....that would help here I'm sure.

I personally wouldn't do that. It sounds kinda stressing (I'd imagine your chambers have different enviromental factors..yes?). I would put a few cfls in the blue spectrum in your flower chamber instead.

If I had to guess, I'd say repotting too. It looks overwatered. Is drainage a problem?

Hmm, I put rocks (steralized from the driveway) in the bottom but the soil I used is terrible and I hate it. It gets really hard like clay soil when it's dry. Probably compacting like a mofo everytime I water... That has to be it...

Thank you thank you. Are you still using the hyponex for your seedlings? If not, what? I need something fluffier. I'm going to Lowe's probably tomorrow...what shall I pick up to repot them in?

Yah, obviously the stuff I used is utter junk....I'm still wondering what would be the best stuff to get at a local non hydro store. I have the perlite and vermiculite...I even added it to that soil, tells you how crummy it really is...sigh.

I have done wonderful stuff w/miracle grow..........all of the mom's and seedlings in my log were "miracle grow and tap water!" you can read whats in a soil on the bag...guano,worm castings,peat moss, these are good word's.

Nah, I've had trouble with peat moss. I can use miracle grow for the later stages, but for the seedlings and small plants I tend to get ph probs....I even use distilled or r/o water my tap is so bad (well)

Well I'm really trying to kill them...confused as to why they are showing ph probs, because I ckd the runoff and it was perfect. I used a garden soil that had lime added. Tall and lanky is obviously overwatered. I don't think that one will make it....Again I don't know what's going on. I'm so happy this isn't known genetics. Perhaps I just waited too long to repot. Don't enjoy the sick photos. lol.

The plants.... they look sad.
Did you add lime because you were already aware of a pH problem?
Is that soil heavy on the peat moss? It has that color... and the symptoms of crap pH are certainly there.
You know my foolproof soil mix... lots of composted humus (from the farmers supply since it's treated for pests and seeds, unlike the stuff in the compost heap)... 40% perlite... no peat! lol but seriously it's very easy to control the pH since the organic acids in the humus buffer pH ~6.8 and also act to chelate fertilizer components.

You are absolutely correct. I've been tossing and turning all night. Yes, indeed my life might be considered 'boring'. I can only think it is underwatering and overwatering....from that bad soil I had. There is ph probs too though. I must have been stoned and done something. or it's that new soil i'm using..I don't think it is nute burn, I've barely used any.

What does it mean when your stems are curled hard as hell? I think two last night were showing mg def. The reason I say this is they had 'prayin' leaves.

I'm feverently waiting for the lights to turn on to see how they look....

Thanks, and they do look like crap. I'm running, not walking, out to the nearest nursery this morning....I actually had to look up farmers market...lol. I live in a rural area, but there are three within five miles of me....nearest grocery store seven miles away! Now, would you personally repot so soon or try adding more lime for now? oh, I didn't add any to begin with, it was already in there. Hell, if I kill them off, lesson learned!

No, I'd flush, check runoff pH, and adjust it using liquid pH up. If your runoff is like 5.8 for example, flush with pH 8 water... see what I'm saying? If you don't get the lime blended fully into the dirt, which is tough when you are dealing with ROOTS, you can get pH hot spots and boy have fun diagnosing that!!! It's the most fucked up set of symptoms you are likely to run across.

Stinky, i looked up farm supply, not market...der, I wrote that wrong. I went to a greenhouse/nursery instead because it gave me a chance to bs with the workers since I was an employee there 15 years ago. They didn't have composted cow manure with humus. They had it without humus and I bought that. I also bought organic shrimp and seaweed compost with peat humus. Is all humus derived from peat? I also got a dolomite lime that says organic...it has calcium and magnesium in it!! I needed that! I looked for worm castings, but couldn't they didn't have it.

I can make a great mixture with this yes? I was thinking 35% one compost 35% the other, 30% perlite and a few tablespoons mixed well. I have forty lbs of cow, and 60 dry quarts of the shrimp/seaweed, so plenty if you have a better mix.

The plant I repotted yesterday with Organic miracle gro, some of that last stuff, perlite, and vermiculite looks fantastic, not much droop at all It also has GREEN stems...so I KNOW that my mix is junk, not my so called repotting skills. I don't have ph down (except baking soda, which I don't think is all that great, is it?). I think in light of this, I'm going to repot again and cross my fingers....
I also have one plant that absolutely is ready and hasn't been potted yet.

So if you see this post soon, let me know what you think, please!

Any may chime in if they have something to share.

No, humus is just a general name for composted plant matter like you would find on the forest floor.
I suspect that humus made from the leaves of deciduous trees is the best; this is just a hunch, but leaf compost is very nice stuff either way.
Rhizome gave a good soil recipe on KDSpecial's latest thread under 'indoor'; I trust his judgement better than my own, but my hunch here is to go heavier on the seaweed stuff and lighter on the cow manure.
One thing that a couple fertilizer companies are selling now is soilless mixes that also contain coco fibers as a texturizing component, and I am going to be experimenting with that type of mix in my outdoor container veggies this summer!
Lesse, what else... baking soda would be a pH UP component, and not a great one lol; cider vinegar would be pH down and it actually isn't all that terrible... you're going to want to test the pH of each of the compost components going into your mix anyway just to make sure they are in the right range. Only add the lime if you find that your pH is too low to start with.

Perfect. You gave me the answers I was looking for. I'll ck out KD's thread, and take a gander at that recipie. I meant my ph down was lemon juice (ha ha I get them mixed up...both lemonjuice and baking soda are crap i've found), but I'm going to get cider vinegar, now that you said that. That was a helpful tip and I don't remember it. I'm still repotting this time around, I want to use this mix and get things in order (so I don't mess up the super important ones I want to grow) or start the next try. I verily want to rep you, but alas I cannot so I bow down before thee instead.

I will test my mix before potting. That is something I hadn't thought of or done before-again der. I'll take your advice and try to go heavier on the seaweed/shirimp (no one else has talked about shrimp I wonder how it will do..ooh how exciting) What a day!
