I've never heard someone use it in that sense, but I think if I did I would think they were stupid.
Maybe it's just the people i know. Personally though i've never heard the word used correctly in conversation.

Uhh actually, in french, ignore something can mean to not know about something or to don't care about it. So ignorant is used for idiot. Well, not idiot, but ya know, ignorant :rolleyes:
I've heard people use it when they mean someone isn't very smart. But never when referring to ignoring someone/something.

It is ironic, those who you the word ignorant improperly do so because they themselves are ignorant. I actually see a lot of words used improperly here, and the times you see it happen most often is during episodes of chest beating. Someone's trying to show how tough or smart they are and they only come across looking foolish.

People I know are too stupid to know what ignorant, or most other words, mean.
Ignorant is not the same thing as stupid. A smart person can be ignorant about a lot of things; in fact, we all are. It depends on the context. If somebody calls me an ignorant person, they are implying that I don't have a lot of knowledge in general, and that would be an insult. But if they were merely saying that I was ignorant with respect to a certain body of information that I don't know, then of course that isn't an insult, it's just a fact. Ignorance is nothing to be ashamed of, as long as you're not ignorant of something that you definitely ought to know by now. Recognizing the extent of your own ignorance is the first step towards increasing your understanding of the world.
Acouwaila, you might still take offence to it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you're ignorant of that subject or topic. Like One said, we're all ignorant about - well, relatively to the amount that could be known, we're all completely ignorant.
Hahaha It's refreshing to know other people know what I think about almost everytime someone says that word. Everyone uses it as if it means rude.
