Cannabis and Intelligence
I know theres the common idea that smoking weed slowly turns you dumber and dumber.... I for one think this may not be quite accurate... I have a "theory" that people that constantly smoke weed look "dumb" and slow..since they are probably high all the time... if not high...they get the common after effects...so they are in touch with THC pretty much all day... but inside they are a normal person...and probably even much smarter than a lot of people...
But my question is if it can actually make smarter.... You know..you get good ideas while high... but will this side of your potential will only show while high? Can it be taken to your sober state as well? Do you feel the use of cannabis has turned you more intelligent/intelectual in certain ways? more creative? And if it does makes you "smarter" ... is it a temporary state that wears with time as the THC leaves the body....or is it something more permanent?
I also have this idea...that while high, you make your brain work much harder...hence you get those creative ideas...but at the process you "burn more neurons" ... so you think more...at the expense of more brain cells... but that's probably not very acurate...
I noticed that the use of cannabis made me look at things in a different way.... dued probably for things I've thought while high.... and sometimes I end up discusing certain subjects that I didn't before...and in a different "tone" ...
So tell us your story/opinions regarding this subject...

Recent studies on lab rats, show that weed actually grows new brains cells. This is supposed to be imposible. Alcohol destroys brain cells. My older brother is 3 brain cells away from being a talking monkey. While on the other hand I am 2 brain cells away from being the next Einstien. The average human uses 3 percent of thier brain. When I used to smoke all the time I was maybe up to 30 percent. Recent events have made me regress but soon I will be back on the right track. Look at my name it says it all. If we could get most of the world to somke it would be a very peaceful place to live.

all I have to say is that ever since smoking everyday, I have had all A's in every class this last semester...with no work at all!...maybe it is due to me being on adderall during school, but I've been taking that since third grade (now 11th) so it must be the ganja :rastasmoke:

I have found the spirtutal side to life while smoking!!! I have had my share of trials and hell, but since i now only smoke, i am much calmer, more creative, i sleep better , i eat better, i love and forgive more. i have been brought closer to my higher power which in turn has turned my life around. i started when i was 14 now being 40 this is the only high that works for me!

I've only been smoking a few months, but I've definately noticed a stark difference in my personality.
I seem to analyse the way people interact, and I'm much more laidback.
It's definitely changed my life for the better.

Well, this is what i do know... There was a test about THC(blah blah blah) and they found that When ur high and learn somthing, it is more likely to be remembered when you get high again. So just like on How High, Study HIGH, Take the test HIGH, get HIGH scores. HAHA awsome movie

Well, I started smoking after I graduated in HS and was in college. I was always a pretty sharp person. I used to speak in front of thousands of people. Got alot of AP credit and that sorta thing. My sister went to yale, and I didn't feel like she was a whole lot smarter than me.
Then I started smoking pot. I make more mistakes while doing things, whether it be talking (I couldn't do large public speaking anymore) or college work, programming. I was a whole lot slower and I can really notice it. Now that I have become a regular smoker for over a year, I have learned to function while high and any and all paranoia is gone. I feel great. I don't feel as though I did before pot, but hell, in my opinion Im still alot smarter than 1/2 the idiots on this rock, and thats good enough for me.

Weed has defiently made me more creative. I don't think its made me smarter. But weed doesn't make you dumb it justs slows you down.

I don't there's any correlation between intelligence and weed-smoking...

today i was working this puzzle that involved blocks of different shapes and sizes, like a 3-dimensional tetris. That is meant to test your spatial intelligence and creativity involving geometric shapes. And u were supposed to use all the blocks together to make all these shapes like a house or a perfect 3 by 3 cube out of those pieces. Each figure u can make usually takes about 5 minutes at the least to build. I was making them in 30 seconds flat after toking some strong sativa b4 math class.

That's awesome...
Though, I was aware that you get this extra intelligence and creativity while high.... my question is... if overall you improve in these fields...even when sober... and if this "stays for good" ... and not just a couple of weeks...

I find that cannabis has no negative effect on my intelligence.

I've only been smoking for maybe a month, and I do find that I am MUCH more intellectual than I was before. When I'm high, or when I'm not high. When I'm high of course I can 'act' high like you know that goofy "Holy shit dude I can't walk *insert uncontrollable laughter here*" I've had plenty of those. But when I am just going over the apex of my high, and begining to come down, I will have perhaps the deepest thoughts ever, I will get into the most intelligent conversations with my friends. Or, when I'm alone, I'll put on some pink floyd, lay down on my bed, close my eyes and just meditate, I swear, I've talked to god, and she has a very strange way of thinking.
And when I'm not high, like in school, I'm always the first to answer a problem given out to the class, weather it be Math, Engineering, World history, decoding a poem in English. (My literary side has MUCH improved over the course of these three weeks.) And, after toking everyday for about a month my grades have come up. I had b's and c's but now my b's are a's and my c's are b's.
I am very happy.

I believe a majority of psychedelic drugs can improve your intelligence. It lets us explore areas of our mind, that sober people can just not explore, imagine, or ever experience.

marijuana has changed almost every6thing about me, and i strongly believe that every change about me is best. i am also a lot more laid back and observant.

Yeah dude, same thing here. Ever since I started smoking everyday I don't even have to pay attention in my classes to get A's. Like in Pre-Calculous, I just read through that class everyday, then when we have a test I read a couple pages in the book and I'm set. Also, I've had this ability to just some how figure shit out. I may have absolutely no idea what is going on in my chemistry class, but if I smoke the night before my chapter test, I'm able to just figure everything out on the test, it's amazing. This may sound stupid but as soon as I started smoking, I've been more outgoing and gained alot of friends and been invited to parties and shit which never used to happen. Honestly, I think the herb is bringing forth a great part of me that I was afraid to show the world. Since the day I started smoking, my life has improved dramatically and for that I thank the one and only mj.

And yeah, I think they're called pantomimes or something...

That's not what i was talking about...
the puzzle i did was called the Bedlam Cube or something like that.
The Bedlam cube - £9.99 : Mind Games, Where The Smart People Shop!
I wasn't just making cubes tho...i was making a house, a tomb, a castle, and a 5-person bench.

well....im going to school to become a teacher so I guess I disprove the theory that all stoners are brain dead. Ive always been intelligent and I love learning. Theres nothing I love more than getting high and watching the news or the history or discovery channel and just learning..and maybe having some cool talks with my friends. But if your stupid to begin with you'll still be stupid whether you have weed or not.

Smoking weed has changed me as a person in everyway..
Im so much more laid back and constantly trying to figure out the purpose of everything that happens
It does open a whole new section of the mind that is just not possible to enter if you dont smoke
Yeah me an my friends act really stupid when we are stoned but when im by myself or just not in that mood im deep in thaught about everything
I say its all good

I think it is best to smoke it when you have a better grip on life. Sometimes the opposite. Looking at how fucked the entire world was as a kid, weed was one thing that came down like an angel. A good puff puff and I was ready to live the life that was given and without that, who knows.
Over the years, I was smoking that schwag junk. I think it made me a bit stupid when I was a kid, but it did teach me many things and made me more aware of shit. Now that I have grown up, looking back. If I didn't smoke, I'd probably be smarter and have more of a "normal" life style. But then again, who knows? I've always been creative, but could the weed have advanced it? One day those ideas will save the planet! cough cough :hippy:
Today, I'm more intelligent and it doesn't make me feel any smarter/dumber. Well that depends...because we live in such corruption...we stoners have frosted our brains with nature/hippie/peace and love stuff that the GOV can't tax! And that's why it's illegal! We are smart, we will overcome, and nothing will stop us! WTF spider mites in HYDRO?! The end of the world is near... :stoned:

These same arguments are being made for the scientific uses of LSD and acid. If you think weed makes you think intelletcually, individual acid trips have changed entire person's lives. The trips can be truly motivational and inspirational. Some great minds have used this drug to enhance their performance and it is a little known fact that Watson of the famous Watson and Crick duo was tripping when he envisioned DNA in the shape of a double-helix one of the greatest scientific breakthroughs.

In my personal opinion cannabis allows you to put aside pre-concieved ideas of how things should be. It allows you to be imaginative and think outside the box. It seems the capability of logical thinking is also increased. The most convincing evidence for me is when I play guitar. I feel that my understanding of the material is greatly enhanced by cannabis consumption.

I'm still undecided on this issue, but I think it definitely can bring some changes. It's hard to judge because it's so hard to look at ourselves objectively and it's not like we can just jump back and forth between present and past to see who we once were.
I think it changes your thinking so you have to adjust to thinking about things differently, for better or worse. I don't know what to think.

It does... the image look.... sharper... better... I don't know...
And I also tend to find things... more "false" than usual... I couldn't watch American Splendor for how phoney it looked.

5 years at this stuff haha
and i'll never let it go, permanantly anyways...
i do believe it makes me more creative but smart i don't know
i know that it helps me concentrate alot more than when i'm not high
like for example one time i was trying to set the clock on my stereo
(while sober) and i couldn't figure the damn bitch out you know
but i went out smoked some weed came back home sat there
and within 5 minutes i had the clock set and everything else
also the thoughts you think while high are amazing
topis you would never talk about things you would never notice
it's unbelievable and it also helps with my self diagnosed insomnia lol
when i can't get to sleep i bun one and i'm out like a light
so yepp viva le chron...

For you guys just starting out, careful. You may think it's all great and an amazing drug but you guys just started. Come back when you get your first panic attack, or start getting paranoid thoughts and having anxiety. Just wait until a couple of months of continual smoking, stop for about two weeks and see how much clearer you will think.
I love bud and all but I don't think it makes you any smarter than you already are. Actually I think it makes things a lot more foggier when being sober. I've recently cut back and I've noticed how much I have changed because of this plant, for better and worse. All in all, respect the plant.

Weed has made a huge impact on me.
It has given me a new way of thinking, along with an interest in philosophy and spirituality.
I feel as though it has made me smarter because of that.

Cannabis and Intelligence
Let me just say this:
I was always a smart kid, never really tried hard in public school, only did it like 15 times from grade 7-8. But in grade 9 I started smoking everyday and became VERY lazy. My marks started to slip and I just didn't give a shit.
But I'm now in grade 11, smoke the odd time maybe once a week, and I have initiative and its as though I can do anything if I put my mind to it. My average is around 86% and I can still do better but if I did that I probably wouldn't have a social life.
Smoking heavily does effect your intelligence but not in a long-term way. Smoking regularly can give you initiative and yes it does expand your imagination. Usually when I'm high I think about my future and how I'm going to get there or even about spirituality and all that. Fuck it's trippy as fuck thinking about that stuff.

People are more open to new ideas when stoned - most would think they wouldnt work - but weed can help you open doors and work things out more logically - the best inventors and smartest people in the world have smoked it. Einstien - he was SMART - big time - and what did he smoke in his pipe? Cannabis.
-

Outa the sake of curiosity, do you have any proof to al smoking pot. Or is it because some one took a black and white picture of him and overlayed it on top of a background with a pot plant in it?
I read a lot about al in my time, never read he toked. I think that picture I am talking about was featured in hightimes.
My memory is clouded though, so I am not sure.
