found in back yard, moved into closet
hello this is my first attempt at inside growing.
i found this plant in my back yard, and it had 4 nodes already grown, its started on the 5th one. its been in my closet for about a week and at first i put it on 12/12 since thurs. and today im tryin to move it to 18/6
i got the ratio backwards n started the plant with 18 hours of dark!!
so i turned it back on around 1 today and im going to turn it off around 11
and turn it back on aroun 530 am when i go to work. i hope this doesnt screw it up n turn it into a hermi!!!!! and help would b great!\
i got a 20w light fixture. i couldnt find a 400w or any higher than 32w!!
is this fine or should i get more lights?
i got pics but they arnt that great.... ill try 2 get a better camera..

Problems:
-Pot too deep. Air flow around base of plant and at soil surface will be restricted. Low branches will suffocate. You have to plant the plant so that the soil surface is near the rim of the pot.
-Backyard dirt... not good... you need REAL potting soil indoors, with perlite.
-Yes you need more lights.
-TIMER!!! Just turning lights on and off by hand is guaranteed herms. You WILL forget.
-Why did you bring it inside? It looks like it was growing fine! I'd stick it back outdoors in a better location with some rich compost worked into the soil.

three prong, one with a ground.
-

i'd go to home depot, you will need:
-Cfl's(i get them from walmart)
go to electrical/lighting section and get:
-socket(i like the rubber ones with wires sticking out, not screw terminals..)
-Cord (ask for best to use with plug)
-Plug (only need 2 prong)
-the plastic caps to connect the wires together (forget what theyre called)
-electrical tape.
Then go to the plumbing/pipe section and get:
-metal pipe strapping
After, get:
-a plank of wood (doesnt have to be too big, i like 1x4)
-wood screws (the kind that are threaded to the head)
Youll also need:
Drill (to make holes for screws)
something to cut the metal strapping
okay i just held shift for * seconds on my keyboard now its permanentely activated so no more periods or any of that or deleting my mistakes>>ill finish this later pissin me off

i keep the water meter around moist at 6-7? you thinnk so?
is that y the leaves are droopy?
or the purple in the stems?
-
found in back yard, moved into closet
no, im eying your dirt.
it should never get bone dry. you plants will begin to wilt, then go downhill fast.
bets to let the soil dry to slightly moist, then water, imo
and get the lights closer if you can, within 6 inches

ok thanks, heres the soil i got

my leaves are pretty droopy. any ideas y? i got it watered pretty good.
is there nutes i can give it? or should i not put anything in it?
-

It's still MUCH too deep in the pot and that can contribute to that dieoff of lower leaves you are seeing.
Also when you brought it indoors, you may have brought pests with it, so check for signs of bug damage, especially low on the plant.
After a good watering it should start to perk up withing 15 minutes.
Have you fed it at all yet? The yellowing says Nitrogen deficiency to me.

i havent given it anything but water and light. idk what to give it and how much.
right now the light is off, wont be on till 1. will the light help it perk up?
i gave it a good water, on the water meter it says 9 wet.

You need to train yourself away from relying on water meters.
Learn to feel how heavy the pot is when the soil is moist compared to how it was dry. Get used to picking it up every time you go to check on your plant.
For food, since you are vegging you need a fertilizer that has more N (first # on the label) than anything else, and it also has to have micronutrients.
GET IT UP TO THE RIM OF THE POT!!!! The surface of your soil is still a good couple inches too low.

When theres too little water left, the leaves will droop.
Purple stems often indicate that they're starving for nutes, in this case its a very likely indicator.
Start giving them small amounts of nutes and increasing them over a few weeks.

today i put her outside for 2 hours in the sun. she has grown an inch and a half since yesterday. i took needle nose plyers and clamped down on a side sprout. i got a stick holdin it up, i heard it would make it make more sprouts on that limb. idk if i even did it right. anyway tell me how im doin!!!!! talk people talk
-
found in back yard, moved into closet
if i lst these 2 limbs, will it grow more bud spots on the side?
i was readin up on atsar's grow and he was lsting his plants
what do you guys think?
-

come on guys show some love give ur opinions it would be very helpfull.
-

Really, you should repot her properly, do you have drainage from that pot? The earth looks compact and not very irrigated.
Clamping branches doesnt sound too good if shes already frail and she looks a little frail.
Stick her under the 400w light, a yard at first then bring closer once she starts thriving.
-
found in back yard, moved into closet
i took back the 400w light cause i didnt have a saucet for it and it was also 21 dollars. so i took it bac for 4 100w cfls.... the dirt isnt that compact . but i can resoil it im just afraid of brakin off roots. should i pull away my lights from my plant??
-
found in back yard, moved into closet
ok i moved away my lights. you think this is ok?

Does it say "the equivalent of 100w" or is it really 23W? The lowest number is what people go by, not the "equivalent".
Repotting is easy. Just let the dirt dry out and then gently palm the bottom of the plant where it meets the soil, and turn sideways/upsidedown, perhaps knocking gently to help it out.
Just be gentle and careful, no probs, my plants always shoot off when I repot them.
-
found in back yard, moved into closet
ok ill try repotting once it gets dry, but its been wet for a few days with out watering at the bottom.
-

on the very end of some leaves, its turnin yellow and some is crispy, are my lights to close?
BTW latewood, can u do me a favor and transfer this thread over to the grow log thread. thanks in advance.
