Need Emergency Room help plz
Hi,
Take a look at these plants plz. They are about one month old. Can't get em to stop sagging. They are under a 400 HPS with a 55 watt 5000K cfl on the side. Ph was just now changed from 7.0 for two days to 5.9. They had root rot which I had cleaned out with peroxide and left peroxide in the tank for a day. That is an econo stealth grow cab. There are now 200 PPM only with Floralicious grow and Flora Nova Bloom, 1/4 tsp each in a 3 to 5 gallon tank. There is very good circulation of air and bubbling with two 10 inch aerator stones. But they have been in this cab for only two days; previously they were in a PC cab and that is why I had started the Bloom - because I only had 20 inch in there. There is a thread in closet/cabinet growing about the PC grow. This is my first time growing; I am a medical patient. Thanks for you help. Wheezey

Sorry about the last picture; here is a replacement from an hour or two later, the drooping seems to be getting worse; death must be coming. Should I take them out of the water for a bit? Any way to get them leaves up fast?

Check water temps and ph. fix what is broken and then wait to see a change, 2 days of shity ph in a dwc is really bad.... u might want to keep a closer eye on your grow. You said there is a 400 wtt hps in there how does it work for you?

Thanks for the reply Jack. Finally a reply from an elder statesman here, hehe. I have the homegrown-hydroponics.com econo stealth cab (I think its called, the $795 one that ends up being 1100 with shipping). Just had it for 3 days now though. Was using the "other top company's" (sunlightsheds.com) PC model for the first month of growth. Had the meager one gallon reservoir at 1100 ppm for more than a week. The aerator stone kept migrating to a corner. The PC was 20 inch high with a 50 watt hps. The cab is almost 36 inches with a 400 hps hanging down a couple of inches. Got root rot in the PC, which I cleaned out as much as I could. Will send a picture of roots, hold on. Okay, got em.
Hey this thing came with the lights coming on every 8 hours and then off 4 hours, breaking up the day into two parts. Could that be killing them? (I told you I was a newb). Thanks for your time replying. Wheezey

BTW pH is staying at 6 now, keeping nutrients minimal to none (100 PPM now). The net pot is about 3/4 of an inch above the water, which is 67 degrees now. Room temp 75, humidity 55%.

All your specs sound good. They may be just stunted from the root rot. I might would back off the side light for a few days. They really don't look that bad and root looks better. I have trimmed the roots to just water level without much stunting at all. Give them a some more time I bet they pick up. Good luck. If you do a seach for LOC NAR1958 (redhair ladies) I think that was the one I trimmed roots.

You can fix the air stone migration by gluing it to the bottom of the rez with a hot glue gun - that will keep it in place. Also - you want the lights on at least 18 straight hours a day. Eight on and four off is not a good light cycle - it will make your plants do wierd shit. A good cycle would be 18 on, 6 off or 24 on. Hope that helps. How many nodes do the plants have? You might want to feed them with real mild (1/4 stength) nutes. The plants need very little nutes when they have 4 or less nodes. You should feed them gently at first - 1100ppm in veg is good for mid-late to late veg - to much for small plants. Stay greazy.

I have an aero setup and my plants looked exactly the same as yours did when I first started I think I even have pictures up on the post (please help droopy plants near the top of the hydroponics page...jack and loc gave good advice the only thing I can think to add is not to go too low on the nutes...when I did I noticed the got kinda stiff in the drooped position...200 at that size is probably as low as you'd want to go cause there is no reason to add any extra stress to an already stressed plant...the leaves look just like in my grow they felt like lettuce before I flushed...but after I fixed the problem I didn't realize they were at too low a ppm to really show that they were all better...once I upped the nutes to 300ppm they jumped back within a day or 2
it takes a bit to get used to growin...the plants will definately bounce back like loc said...only problem I had was males and hermies because of the stress so if they are from seed thats' something to take into consideration as long as they come out female I doubt this will affect the yield much if any

I agree with ASD. 0=not enough, 1100=too much at this stage, 300-500=just right. Peace.

Thanks for all the replies. It is 2 am now and they just started their next 18 hour cycle (full 18 hours now). And I took out the side light and checked pH and PPM (6 and 250 - I added just a teeny bit more of nutes too). Will send pictures midday Sunday. Thanks again. Wheezey.

Cover the tops of netpots. No need to have the light beating on the hydroton. Get ya a piece of panda plastic or something similiar. Cut a + in the center of where each pot is, then lay on top of your rez. Slide net pots thru the + you cut and put them back in their spot in rez lid. All you will have is the plant exposed to the light. Thats exactly what ya want. White side up, of course. The more light you can block from your rez, the better your grow will go. Less probs with root rot, lower rez temp (more oxygen), etc etc etc. Lights + rez water = no-no.
As stated above, 7.0 pH is as useless as tits on a fish when growing hydro. I pH to 5.8 and go from there.
With warm weather approaching, unless you are south of equator, keep eye on rez temp. If you need to cool it, freeze a few bottles of water. Toss one in the rez as needed to keep temps in check. IMO you NEVER want above 70 degrees, but thats only my two cents. Hold it around 65 and your plants will send you thank you cards. You grow yer way, I grow mine:D

Bonger - I can think of many useful things to do with fish tits. Tits in general are just fun.

Thanks for all the replies and help.
Will give quick update since that time a few days ago. Upped nutes ever so slightly (never going over 400) over next couple of days (having flushed all peroxide). Got either root rot or big globs of nutes on roots again (they looked very weak and stiff and sickly). Flushed with peroxide again and have been running 1 tsp a gallon for two days with no nutes.
Here are pictures from the last few days, last two from today. They are showing new growth and leaves are standing up again some. Maybe not out of the woods yet, but getting there.
Will update again soon. Thanks again. Wheezey

I have a couple hints for dealing with a plant recovering from root problems.
-Spray with anti-wilt to decrease water loss through transpiration. With damaged roots, the plants cannot uptake water as fast as they should.
-Move your lights up for the same reason, or go flouro for a little while at least until you see signs of perkiness.

Hi Folks,
Just wanted to update you real quick. Here are current pictures. I have covered the Hydroton with plastic for now. I have also put in two new 18 inch aerator wands in the reservoir which I can bend and position around the plants better. Keeping pH 5.8, 5.9. I can't believe they are still alive. I have also included a picture of two new seedlings of "The Church" feminized seed from Greenhouse. The current plants are Northern Lights Special from KC Brains. I have also stopped all foliar spray and that seems to have woken the roots back up. I am learning a lot. Thanks, Wheezey
