The wikipedia version is the true and most accepted verison of how 420 originated.

I have researched this alot and it did originat from the san rafel highschool and also the greatfull dead helped spread the word. Theres a vid on my station about the history on 420 and it seams pretty acurate however nobody realy positively knows where it came from, I always thought it was from the growers almanac, casue 420(april/20th) is when you plant weed out side so you can get a proper harvest in aug. or sept. i found an article on this that listed over 100 valid meanings behind this, but the one most widely accepted is the one mentioned above about the kids at school.

the Waldos are well known and definetly the most likely answer.

Im sure lots of stoned kids came up with theyre own stoned theories and as it was passed through the grape vine people began to say it like it was a fact.
