New Dealer = new methods. Can someone help me?
I've used the same handful of dealers since I started smoking about ten years ago. Two have stopped selling MJ and have moved on to harder stuff, one stopped selling all together, and unfortunately my last reliable supplier landed in jail a few weeks ago and has decided he is going to lay low for a while. A nonsmoking friend hooked me up with her cousin to get some MJ. Now, the guy does have good quality stuff, he gave his cousin a J for me to sample, and I was impressed. Nice 50/50 high. You've got just enough couch lock going on, but there is still an evident cerebral element to the stone. I'm definitely going to be doing business with him. My problem is this. All my dealers in the past have dealt in eighths, quarters, halves, and full ounces. This new guy deals in grams. Now, I know that 1 ounce equals around 28 grams correct? Now usually I only buy ounces so I have a good amount on hand, but this guy's prices are a bit steeper than I'm used to which means I'll have to buy smaller quantities. I know quite a few of you are used to dealing in this type of measurements. Would one of you be a dear and post a pic of like 5 grams of bud with a bic or zippo lighter next to it as scale reference so I can start to get a better understanding of grams and how to gauge at a glance whether or not I'm getting ripped off on purchases? I leave my money with his cousin and he leaves my order with her when he visits her every week, so I'm never there to see him weigh it out and I don't have a set of scales of my own. Which reminds me, I really do need to get another digi scale. My puppy got ahold of the old one and really did a number on it. LOL Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

NEVER go by sight alone..........buy a new scale. When ya find a new hook it's always best to bring yours with and do a weigh right in front of them.....just keeps everyone honest.
Have a good one!

usually a 10 bag...stuffed...= about 1 g
if you think about 28 single gs if you were going to buy an o i dont have to tell you the thing you already know which is its going to be unusually Steep of a price...
ask him if he can hook you up for 8ths instead of gs
i had a dealer way back when i was in highschool and he sold gs for 15...
if we wanted 8ths hed give us exactly 3gs of nugget for 45...
to him..3 gs at 15$ a pop was an 8th
try to get him to give you 3 and a 1/2 for a discount on each gram
(where people buying a quarter would get a discount on each 8th?)
these are the things im thinking about..
like if a g is 15 get 3.5 for 45...rather than 3 for 45...ask him to hook you up convince you will be a good 'client'...or a regular 'client' and youre good for it so he can afford to throw a level extra half g..at...calc.....12 a g instead of 15?

if he sells by grams and your looking to get more than one, maybe 2 dont bother.
round here it 15-20 g 50 1/8th 100 1/4 so if you were getting a 1/4 it would cost 20 extra

...52.50....
im used to 35-40....possibly 45-50 if its real exotic or somethin

The way he sells his is in five gram increments in these little plastic cubes. It's weird because I'm not used to that. Personally I think using that kind of packaging drives the price up and is a waste of money. At least the weed is high quality. Better than I was getting in fact, and it takes less of it to get me stoned. Thanks for the advice guys. Especially you notransfer. The way you explained it made a hell of a lot of sense and will be very useful.

Thanks for all the input, it's greatly appreciated. The stuff is really high grade, I was just concerned about the amount I'm getting for the price having never dealt in grams before. I'm going to be picking up from his cousin in two days. She called to say he has his regular stuff, but also got in some Black Domina x AK-47. It costs $75 for the same quantity of the other. I've never tried either strain of that hybrid. Think I should give it a go or stick with what I've been getting?

Make sure you get some pics up, i would personally pick up some of the AK, but it depends on your financial status ;)

Precisely.
Most dealers should have a scale, and if they don't, they'll appreciate you bringing one. Good dealers always want to make sure they sell the correct weight.

LOL, I had a scale, but now I have a new puppy and that bitch ate it. So I need a new one. I always kept it on the oz. setting, which is why I am so clueless about gram weights. In the beginning, I had one of those cheap counter balance scales that you can buy in any head shop for a couple bucks. These last few years I had a neat digi scale a friend gave me for xmas. Again it was a cheapie, but it worked and had the oz. option so it was good enough for my purposes. I hardly ever weighed what I was getting anyway because my guys always hooked me up with more than an oz. for the price anyway. Of course I know now that I've lost them how friggin easy I had it for such a long time. I called his cousin and told her I'll try the new stuff. I'll let you know how it is. As for pictures, I keep meaning to buy a digital camera but just haven't yet. I spent all of my money on a good lighting setup for the little grow room I was trying to get together and now I'm tapped. I'm still pissed it has been postponed if any of you read my post about that in the grow lounge. I keep telling myself this just gives me more time to bone up on techniques, and I'm still trying to figure out the whole deal with nutrients anyway. It's damn confusing when every book I read has a different opinion and so do most of the grow logs on this site. Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks again to all who have replied to this thread. Good karma to all of you.

Your puppy ate a scale?

Well, she ate pieces of it. Mostly she just gnawed it to death one afternoon when I was at the store and she escaped from the kitchen where I keep her gated when I'm not home. I've had to invest in a heavy duty gate as well. She chewed through the wooden one. She's a Rotty/Lab mix I got from the local animal shelter about two months ago. I named her Lola. She's sweet but boy will I ever be glad when she's grown out of this "I need to chew EVERYTHING!" stage.

Yeah, whoever said god makes babies cute so we won't kill them was right on the money. ;) Most of the time she's an angel though and I love her dearly. She's learning her commands pretty well, and I'm sure once she's cut all her adult teeth the chewing will taper off. Right now she goes through a large raw hide chew bone every two days. Buying those things are more than worth it though cause they save the furniture.

I got a call from my friend around 5pm today. Her cousin was coming a day early and she wanted to introduce us formally. I guess she could see herself getting tired of playing "go between" real quick. So I drove to her place and helped her can some applesauce while we waited on her cousin. He finally turned up around 8pm, and low and behold, I knew him. We went to high school together. I just never realized who she was talking about because I only ever knew him by his nickname. Everyone always called him Waldo because he looked like the "Where's Waldo" guy. So we had a laugh over that and talked for a bit. He was really cool about everything and when I explained my lack of experience dealing in grams he took out the mini digital scales he had with him and explained everything to me in detail. He took the bud out of the cube and weighed it in front of me. It was actually .5 over weight and as we used to be art class buddies he sold it to me for the price of his regular stock. He had a blunt of some crazy purple looking bud (I forget what strain he said it was but it smelled a little like fruit loops cereal) with him and he cut it in two and gave me half. I really wish I had a digital camera so I could show you this stuff. We smoked the other half out on his cousin's patio. She has a 6 month old baby in the house so we opted for the great outdoors. That stuff gave me a serious head ringing high. Really tasty smoke. I told him if he ever gets more of that in, I definitely want to buy some. All in all this has been a really fine evening. I'm going to fool around online a bit longer and then probably smoke a bowl while watching an Eddie Izzard dvd before going to bed. I'm saving that other half a blunt for a good old fashioned "wake and bake" in the morning since I don't have to work. Yayness! (happy dance)

For this area his pricing isn't too bad considering how much some of these shady dealers are charging for brick weed. Not to mention, Waldo is good people, and I know the fringe benefits of this arrangement will be outstanding over time. He is really honest with people, and he took the bud out of the cube and weighed it for me so I could see what I was really buying. Hell, he even showed me what the packaging weighs on its own when he was teaching me the ropes on this measurement system. I know we covered metric measurement in school, but I was never good at math and can't remember most of that stuff now. If I'd known I was going to need it for this, I probably would have paid closer attention. LOL
