Becoming a police officer and having a club card

I heard through a friend that if you have ever possessed a Medicinal Marijuana card, that you cannot join the police force. I am all for legalization and everything, but I also am looking forward to becoming an officer, and am lost in how those two mix together as far as drug tests and everything, and I am not saying i will still be using medicinal weed when i join the police, it is just the fact of having the history of a club card haunting me in 5 or so years when i am no longer using weed as medicine (if i luck out like that).

Thats pretty shitty if it ruins your chances, but I hope if you do become a cop and ever pull me over you dont search my shit. I probably would of considered becoming a cop but I probably could never quit smokin' :rastasmoke:

I dont see the huge problem until you put on that uniform but right now we oughta assume youll let us herb smoking good citizens off with a warning on more than one occasion.

Common sense says the fuckers cant do something so outrageous and say well looks here you once had a prescription 5 years ago for something that cures pain... im sorry but we dont take your kind here...

But then again USA doesnt have common sense..

you shoudl be able to find a real answer on google or ask someone maybe over the internet even...i mean someone qualified...like a cop..

haha, the last few posters, i thank you for being helpful, and for the ones before, even though you didnt give me answers, it still made me smile, so thanks to everybody that responded! I did google it, but it is hard to type a specific search topic in the right words!

I just dont know what is better

Pain relief that doesnt consist of 3 tablespoons of hydrocodone with apap twice a day and become a cop and still be in a ton of pain

or...

Get my recommendation and possibly lose my chances at one of my top career choices.

It would however be awkward for me to have to cite somebody for being in possession of marijuana, all because I believe it should be legalized due to it having more pros and uses than cons and damage. That is what warnings are for!

Tbh i cant see why it'd be a problem, except that its a little hypocritical to smoke happily with your club card but yet bust others for enjoying the herb illegally...however i suppose the police do deal with other important things.

I watch the show Cops all the time, it makes me want to be a officer of the law.

They ask you what drugs you've ever used. They also ask you to list all the times youve seen drug use. Then they test you with a lie detector. Good luck becoming a cop if you've recreationally used MARIJUANA!!!!!!!

While cannabis should be legal, there is nothing wrong with wanting to be an officer. Sure, a lot of them do abuse their powers. But has the thought ever crossed your mind that somebody that wants to join the force actually wants to help people and does so out of selflessness? Not all police are bad people. The profession should be a noble one; though many join for the wrong reasons. Don't rat on him for wanting to be helpfull to the community. It is the law that is wrong, not those enforcing it.

Ever heard of leap.org (Law Enforcement Aainst Prohibition)? Police officers are not bad people. There are bad examples of every profession.

well, though you may not wanna believe me, i am not an undercover, though, yes, i guess i could be, i mean, they call it by what it isnt called anymore, I dont do drugs, and havent smoked recreationally more than twice in my life, but if it helps me get through all this pain, i am going to go for it, but not without the wisdom of you guys and girls! If i am going to make a decision like this, i dont want to go in blindly

i understand. :)

i couldn't say for sure... but i'd imagine you couldn't use it while you were on the force, at the same time, id on't see why previously owning one, should have any bearing on it.

you'd just have to ask, i know diffrent police departments have diffrent codes of conduct and what not.... o.0 it's not like every station is run by the same rules and regulations.
