Planting in MiracleGro Potting Soil
Hey, I KNOW THERE ARE SOME ANTI-MGRO PEOPLE OUT THERE BUT ALL THAT ASIDE, I'M JUST TRYING TO GROW SOME PLANTS!
Okay, with that aside.. I was wondering. Since MiracleGrow Potting Soil already had slow release nutes, could I plant a seed in a pot full of it, or would it be too much for the little baby?

Well I did that, and I got some killer bud in return. MGRo isn't all bad as people make it out to be.

it will work ....but as it was mentioned here before ~it is like feeding a baby junk food~Zandor....if you must use it. use it only after your plant has matured and grown at least it's second node. go with the organic m.g it is a little better... m.g also has a low ph you will need to increase it good luck....after you grow some skanky buds you may want to feed your plants properly. i dont know why i should bother telling you this i guess i feel nice today add some fish emulsion during the veg and some extra p and k during the flower then flush all the shitty slow released nutes out of your soil before you harvest. oh yeah add some perlite or washed rocks....good luck noob dont burn yer house down

Is the pH what kills the baby seeds? or the nutes?
If I add like a teaspoon of baking soda to like 2 quarts of water do you think it will raise my pH?
also, Ryan. Did you plant it in the MG from seed? or put it in after it was more mature? and did you use the organic kind, or the moisture control with added nutes and verm/perlite
-
Planting in MiracleGro Potting Soil
look it's the nutes that will hurt the seedlings. i could grow treetops with m.g but i wouldn't there are much better soils out there plus better mediums..try cocoa. anyway you can raise the ph by adding tap water that is set out overnight or add calmag...now go do some fucking research that is why we have the forums...use the organic it is the mildest and is recomened for veggies. add a bunch of perlite and go play....when you are ready to grow do your research.

..I used the moisture control from seed to harvest...plus a layer of verm/perlite....AND 1/4 strenght nutes thru the whole grow...USING well water with a high PH 7.4...GARDEN KNOWN....said it ...I agree.....it's doable...
..but if you can find the higher priced stuff ...go for it....

both.
AAARGH
There are SO much easier soils to deal with!!! MG is just BEGGING to have lockouts in the future... the countdown begins... in 6 weeks you will be posting pics of a plant with a Mg deficiency and trying to hose it down with epsom salts. But instead why don't you just run down to the farmers supply and get some sweet soil with lots of composted humus in it? And then add your perlite... I dunno if you have Agway near you but their composted cow manure with humus, mixed 60-40 with perlite, is a NICE medium to start in. It's a little much for small seedlings (just get seedling starting soil, you dont' need much because you'll be transplanting soo nayway) but after the magin # of 5 pairs of true leaves it's GREAT and the naturally occurring humic acids from the compost keep the pH around where you want it, plus act as chelating agents to avoid fertilizer salts interacting and becoming locked out!
TRUST ME!!!! You CAN grow in MG but be ready to spend some time flushing, and it will be a lot harder to get your nute routine right.

Miracle Grow is about the worst thing you can use on your plants.
Will it grow plants? Yes. But organic fertilizers applied properly will blow MG away.
But if we both had seedlings of the same genetics, and used the same lighting-
My plants would be healthier, smother tasting, and have a better yield than an identical strain grown with MG.
I challenge anyone on this board to prove me wrong.
I would rather vomit on my plants and use that for fertilizer, than to use MG.
With the Internet and Gardening stores all over there is no reason to use MG.

okay phew don't use the regular sort... the seed starting mix is acceptable... now you have some time to go find real dirt.

So should I use the Mg soil just for the germ process and not the vegg? Don't want to spend the money if its garbage.....I still have the reciept.....Just don't have to many options in my part of jerzey....

If it is seed starting mix, then use it for seeds. But I would STILL flush it before planting anything!
After the seedling stage, you really need to head down to your grow shop or garden center for something better. I know you can find SOMETHING, or if that fails, mail-order coco bricks. They are inexpensive and ship nicely. Botanicare makes a fantastic product.

U know im just going to take the mg back today and get the real deal stuff from a recommended garden store....any suggestions as to a soil that i can use from start to finish and how much i plan on raising for little bushes usin the micro gro system thanx stinky

I've never done a micro grow but the rule is that for a normal plant, one gallon of soil per foot of plant height is adequate. For a plant that is being scrogged or otherwise trained, give it a bit more- just use your judgement- If you have a single stem plant that is a foot tall there's a gallon, but if it's trained to 4 main stems, give it like 3 gallons or so.
Soil start to finish- when I was doing soil I used that compost mix I gave you start to finsih, but it WAS very very 'hot' for seedlings and I flushed the living CRAP out of it before planting.
I'm now a happy coco fan, and I start my seeds in rapidrooters (composted tree bark) and then go to coco. It's inert - no nutes included, so you have TOTAL control.
For all the shit talked about miracle gro, that is to me the biggest issue:
CONTROL.
I want to be able to give my plants exactly what they need and not have to sit there scratching my head about what is in the soil, or of what HAD been in the soil, what is left by now (with MG this is likely to be unusable salts precipitated out from interactions among ferts). With the coco, it is super easy to control and impossible to overwater, so you can flush as often as you like. In fact, overwatering by 10% each time is actually RECOMMENDED for coco!!! Sez my fertilizer guru.
Okay tangent. sorry... a lot of people swear by ProMix BX which you can find virtually anywhere. I'm not personally a huge fan because of my [almost illogical] hatred of All Things Peat Based... haha but I've seen many a beautiful grow using that stuff, and you can do it too I'm sure.

yeah, at least 3 gallons water per gallon of soil.
for best results, pH adjust your water to 6.8 but tap water is usually acceptable.

Planting in MiracleGro Potting Soil
Adjusted pH of tap water to 7 with makeshift ph up (baking soda dilution ;)
Flushing now.

BTW, I planted a seed in the MG on monday and it just started to sprout.. you may be right. It looks a BIT yellow already. Lol
Maybe it's just the strain? idk, TOTAL NOOB HERE! haha

SFF, the vast majority of the growing world talking down M.G. soil should tell you all you need to know. Search any cannabis grow site on the web with "Miracle Grow" and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Why bother if you're not going to follow the path cleared for you over the past few decades when cannabis cultivation has soared?

MG makes an organic soil..it comes in a yellow bag not green. I add some lime and epson salt . About 25% perlite . works pretty good. Lowes has it for about $5.50 a bag....its about 3 gallons. I was using fox farm but this is much cheaper ...seems to work for me .

I agree with you but this thread is over 5 years old. Dutch is probably the only active person on this thread.

I have also grown in mg soil multiple times and got awesome bud. I have always added more perlite to drain better. But since then I switched to peat moss, perlite and lime mix. It think that gives a faster grow then mg IMO. I know it's always good to get other pols opinions but if something works for you then dont change it. No matter what anyone says.
