Grow Journal: C99 x NL Computer Case
Hey all
This is my little computer case grow.
I originally planned to do this with lowryders. I bought a pack of 10 seeds. All germinated, only 1 sprouted, and then it stopped growing.. Back to the drawing board. Interesting note... when i threw away the one sprout (1 week old), it stunk when it was rubbed.. prety surprising considering the age.
I then ordered a pack of NL99 (Northern Lights x C99 by Joey Weed, from hempdepot.ca), manually cracked them, and threw them in moist paper towel and put them somewhere warm (~83-89f). Within 10 hours, roots had shown, and after 24 hours, they went into soil. I guess these ladies love to keep warm.

Setup:
Lights
The lights Iā??m using for this are a Longstar 105w, 5000k CFL grow light, and a Fresh2 Titanium 23 watt, 2300k CFL. The second bulb comes coated with titanium dioxide which ionizes when the bulb is on and removes smell.
Soil & Nutrients
The soil is a store bought organic mix made of hummus, peat moss, compost, and pearlite. I'll start using a 15-30-15 fertilizer at 1/4 strength about 2 weeks in.
Box
Hereā??s the grow box. Itā??s built inside a full tower ATX case that measures 24ā? tall. Two computer fans are used for circulation, with the exhaust vented through the hood / reflector in order to immediately remove heat from the case. The vent duct is the kind that easily stretches and compresses in order to accommodate the light being moved up as the plants grow.

1.5 Days after going into the peat pots, 2 of them are up and away. I'll call this day 1.

Day 5
All have sprouted, one is deformed (its c-leaves seem fused together on the bottom, and the stalk has an odd flap on it near the leaves), but its still growing fine.. I'll see how it does.

those Joey Weed NL99s are my favorite plant ... they will grow 30" tall, at MINIMUM ... remove that odor-killer bulb ... it gets extremely hot (165degrees, and up), and the NL99 has NO smell ... the slightest whiff of lemon, that's it, you won't need the odorkiller ... those will flower about 9-10 weeks to get all cloudy trichomes (not 8 like advertised) ... you are cheating yourself by keeping them in a small cabinet like that ... no room=no yield ... this pic is what they are capable of ... the main cola wouldn't fit in a computer case, let alone the entire plant ... good luck ... :smokin:

I'd love to grow them out, but my living situation won't allow that. I've heard there is almost no smell from these, but im super paranoid. I did notice that the case temperature goes up by about 8-9f when its on. Are all cfl's of this size that hot, or is it just these?
I'm not expecting too spectacular of a yield, but i hope to at least make the best of it using a small scrog. Apparently NL99 is very branchy and good for training.

the odor-killing CFLs work great, I use two, but they get HOT ... much hotter than regular CFLs ... I have an infrared thermometer, it reads 165+ degrees F. on their surface, and hotter ... yes, NL99 trains well, clones extremely easily, and is so stable, you can't even force it into 'hermie', I know, I've tried before ... hope you get to smoke some of it, when it's grown like it should be, it will earn your respect, to say the least ... it's dyn-o-mite

haha obviously no one was as excited as i am.. ill update anyway
1.5 weeks - 3 new things:
I did something that will make most people scratch thier heads: I switched to 12/12.. something that others growing in small spaces have said they had luck with (some even go 12/12 from seed).
I axed one of the plants. It was mutated and lopsided and didint want to stay upright... it was still growing and healthy.. but space is limited.
And lastly, i have an interesting problem (or maybe it could turn out to be good? who knows). The tops of the leaves look 100% healthy and green, but the bottoms turned purple. Another guy on another site said his finished NL99 was purple, so it may just be genetics. I gave one a super diluted feeding with micronutrients with Mg, and no change... so i dont really know..
ps: is there a way to imbed images in the post its self? i have them hosted.

No, there is no way. Attaching them as images is the only way ;).
