security ideas

well my plant was stolen a couple days ago from my back yard. i an not very happy about it so i am thinking about ways to protect my stuff next year. does anyone have any ideas on how to secure 1 plant growing in my garden?

I always plant mine next to a clump of savage blackberries and train the canes around it. This year ive fenced around and grown them along wires so its e3asier to crawl in to get to the plant.
There is also nettles underneath and a crop of giant garden spiders through the whole thing.
I always plant in the ground not in pots. Apart from generally being better and more practical (and being able to get roots under the compost pile) its harder to take the whole thing once estasblished, and a prick to reach into the thorns to steal heads. Suits my area coz its pretty big yarded and bushy.
If I ever do get done though, it'll be dog time.

about all you can legally do is set up a noise barrier. setting traps that'll cause bodily harm will get you in more trouble than you want so don't even think about such...

i've planted up against the house and covered entire plant with chicken wire then grow some snow peas or other thin plant that'll be easy to train as a vine. if someone wants em bad enough they'll get em...so best bet is to give your present spot a rest for a couple years. find a new spot.

i was thinking of chicken wire wrapped around the plant but i was also thinking about motion detection lighting and camera. to add to the chicken wire i was thinking about putting wood dowels into the ground about 1 foot apart and then a metat conduit about 6 ft up. attach the chick wire to it and cover the top with chick wire also. i was thinking about the addition of a powered fence device simular to a cow fence the farmers use where i grew up to keep the cows in(not deadly but hurts like hell). then around that till about 3 ft off the ground using a plactic fence about 6 inch away from metal so my dogs dont go near the electrified fence.

do you think this would be to much? also i would do this when plant is about 4 ft high.

http://www.southernbulldogs.com/ http://www.joshuakennels.com/ buy a well bred american bulldog or pitbull terrier. even if you don't plan on using a training program, they will naturally be protective of you and your property. they will also not only be a great deturent, but a great alarm too. i will leave you two links with some very true dogs.

i put a bunch of fishhooks on my plants and i surrounded it with fishing line with several hooks on it and i have a line tied to a live trap so when somebody comes into my garden thell trip the line and the noise of the live trap closing will wake up my pitbull that is on a shiort leash at night 2 feet from my beautifull plant maybe it looks so intimidating to people that they wont even think about trying to get my baby

and just to let ya know...setting a trap that can cause bodily harm/injury is a major felony and the plants will be the least of your probs...

i agree w/ dell, traps are too dangerous. what would you do if your dog, another animal, or even yourself were to accidently get caught on that? ouch!!

well i know where it is so i wouldnt get poked and my dog cant reach it i acctually took of the fish hooks but my dog is still near it
