In a nutshell, most definately.
My first thought would be, that the highs differ in overall intensity and speed of onset based upon the method of delivery used. This would make the highs seem different, in my opinion.

Then it seems that the bong would be the greater high, considering the larger amount of smoke taken in from a rip than a casual puff of the J, I would imagine.
In my experience, gravity bongs have been known to make one hit of dank mids fuck you over realllll good.
Bongs are way more of an intense high then a joint. Joints are so much more relaxed and that's why I love 'em.
They usually all level off the same peak if the same amount of smoke was consumed in each. A bong just hits you quicker so you feel the hit and get a heady where as a doob just builds up on you, and a doobs worth of weed in a gravity bong will demonise you at first then they all just seem to level out to a lazy fried mirno.
Yeah, a joint will force you to smoke a certain amount of weed in a certain time frame (however long it takes the joint to burn all the way), while with a bong you can space it out more. I think that's why you (and I) get higher with joints, but bongs can fuck you up royally if you don't forget to keep toking.
I think Ermitonto is on to something. If you're smoking a bong, then you've got to empty out the bowl. Usually, I find that when I'm smoking a bowl, I tend to break up the weed as I go; when I smoke a J, by definition, the opposite is true.
The feeling I get after smoking, say, 2 or 3 grams in a bowl, is one of being nicely toasted. When I keep smoking, I'll get really spaced out. If I roll the same amount into a J, however, I'll get more of an intense head-rush.
Could this be because smoking the J, which is unfiltered, puts more toxins into me with the unprocessed smoke? Kind of like the difference between smoking an unfiltered cigarette and a filtered one?
Mysteries abound!
Well presumably your bowl isn't filtered either.
