What does the Confederate flag represent, and why is it all over this site?

Well, since I've joined this website I've really begun noticed the confederate flags existence. Most people think it represents "The South" but I wouldn't know, I live in the South West where we all eat salsa, ride horses and have six shooters! Just kidding not really...

But seriously, what does the Confederate flag represent?

The origin of the confederate flag IS from the south. The south eastern states. Different people will give you different opinions as to what it means. Some say it represents an ideal of not giving up in what you believe in. Some will say it is a racist symbol. Others say it's just a cool flag because of the Dukes of Hazzard. Google it and find out.....

I've only noticed the symbol in one place and it is in the avatar of GaGrown. Hopefully he chimes in.......

The stars and bars means many things!

50 plus years ago in high school, I belonged to the "Rebels", whom flew the Confederate bars and stars as our flag, and raised it above the local high school as well as painting it on the school door panels and other civil disobediences.

In reality, we were rebelling against everything teenagers rebel against, not the actual subjects of the Civil War.

It is my perception that it means that you have a fight on your hands once you tell me how it is going to be, regardless of how I may feel or think. Exactly the same issue that caused the civil war in the first place.

In my personal view, only the uninformed and egregiously ignorant on the subject still hang on to the misconception that the civil war was over slavery. It was about the North telling the south how it was going to be and the egregious financial usury involved.

The same thing that caused the Revolutionary war!

The winners of any war write the lies in the high school history texts, but the real winners read between the lines and understand that wars are about one side feeling that the other side is doing their level best to use lies, deceit, and chicanery take advantage to use them against their best interests.

Wide pendulum swings invite the opposite extreme and the civil war is a prime example of why it is a mistake to tell people that their interest and views are inconsequential and subordinate to another special interest view.

The snake flag, with the admonition to, "Don't tread on me", perhaps explained it better.

May I also add, for those whom are unaware, I am a Euro/Native American, with baggage and therefore possibly divergent views on domination and usury. Family records show that I had relatives on both sides of the conflict, as well as at least one Native American relative whom was a slave. Our black brothers were not the only ethnic group enslaved, which is commonly brushed aside and not typically taught in high school American history.

Mostly because Native Americans made poor slaves due to our attitudes, and for the most part we were shipped to the East Indies to keep us from escaping, though we seemingly just shriveled up and died disproportionately in captivity and servitude.

One side of my family as a matter of record in at least one case, literally murdered the other side out of predudice and financial gain, after they couldn't threaten or intimidate him into submission. Four generations later, whom do you hold responsible, with a town in Texas named after the town preacher man Bible thumping founding father and other family members committing the murder disguised as Night Riders?

I stopped flying the stars and bars as my youthful exhubrance faded, but will always salute their do not tread on me, or do so at your peril sentiment!

Hell Yeah! What he said! It would be more to me as a heritage! With the," Don't Tread On Me" Line of thinking! Not at all a racial issue for me... We are all created equal!

I don't ususally venture outside the grow forums, but I do when it comes to certain Southern things.

First, nobody mentioned the fact that the bars and stars flag was NOT the flag of the confederatercy, it was a conferate battle flag. It represented courage and valor.

Second, someone did mention the revestionist history that's occurred. When you ask most people why the Civil Was was fought , the first answer is "to end slavery" and nothing could be further from the truth. It was fought over state's rights, slavery was a component of that but minor one. If you told the people of Charleston it was to protect slavery (most of the slaves were on large plantations owned by wealthy people) you couldn't have raised even a small mob. What incenced the people was that armed union troops were patrolling the streets and imposing curfews and the free assembly of citizens.

The Civil War (The War of Northern Aggression) started in April 1861 and the Emmancipation Proclomation didn't happen till Jan 1863. It only freed the slaves in the conferate states, slavery was still legal in the border states that stayed in the union.

Fought to end slavery? :wtf: Bullshit.

The conferate battle flag was unfortunately hijacked by racists, but the flag was stolen by the politically correct assholes.

Many of us believe that flag still stands for courage and valor.
