led vs hps?

so i have been reading alot about l.e.d and it seams most of the stuff im reading is coming from people with a interest in selling the product.. now i have done lots of out doors and a few crops under hps. nothing spectacular. I have a room in mind its 4 foot by 10 and i want to get about 15 plants in there.. should i sell my 1000 and 600 hps and get some leds or buy new bulbs and keep the old humming sunsupplys... anyone on here using leds? how well do they work.... how high from the plants can a hps be hung and still be very effective. im wondering if the too lights will be enofe to cover the 4x10 area??? some one please help me make this decsession. also what about the new electronic ballests i seen one the is a dual 600 hps was thinking about mounting the 1000 in the middle and the two 600 lower at each end. and then moving plants every 2 days. and also how much dose it cost to run a 1000w and a 600w. per month??? sorry for the scattered brained questions. and hi all this is my first post love the sight:rastasmoke:

I was using 2 1000's....1 over each 3 x 3 tray and a 600w for veg and 10000btu AC for cooling the room! 10'x12' total area

I started converting the grow side first with 2 procyon100's...good lights but small and expensive! then i also converted my cloning cab to LED's everything growing more healthy than before. I then got my hands on Welthink WEX-C150 and I liked the design of it being a 40" bar of 3 watt LED's....i have 7 of them now :stoned:

I got rid of all of my HID and AC now and run start to finish under LED

i reduced power consumption by over half of what i previosly used and the next step is adding CO2 to these babies in the near future! :jointsmile:

Ok, so you could continue to save electricity by not growing ANY weed indoors. So you replaced your HIDs with LEDs? There is no way your yield and quality is comparable to the HPS setup. If you try to tell me that you replaced 2600 watts of HPS and your LEDS do the same thing I will have to call complete and utter BS on you.

i just harvested on wednesday and i have great herb...dense hard nugz and the oil and resins have increased since switching to LED!

stick with what you like jakester...btw i have a deer problem and it is hard to grow outdoor when you have had a spinal cord injury and have to use a wheelchair...i need good meds for my pain...and i only grow OG SFV for myself...no bullshit!

Look up posts from Weezard.

He ran his own home made LED against outdoor grows and his LEDs won in terms of looks, smell potency and yield, IIRC.
He's a legal grower in Hawaii, BTW. The sun is real good there.

I run LEDs, too, but am not as adept.

The up-front cost is very high now. Most of the lamps you see hawked are getting mighty close to snake-oil territory. BUt if you can get your hands on some serious LED gear you will see that it cango toe to toe with HIDs and be a serious contender.

i have many old school friends who are adding LED and removing HID after watching my grows....i found most important is having the 660nm and 3500k warm white wavelengths in getting proper finishing times.

What is your yield like with the LED VS the HPS? How about light penetration?

I would call BS...I would also love to be wrong.;) It's tough to believe that little LEDs can throw as much energy into a fruiting plant as an HPS.
