I have 8 day old clones in 1-1/2 inch rockwool cubes with 1/2 -3/4 inch roots that haven't broken through wool yet.
Should I peel off the wool or wait a few more days til they come threw the wool?
Also, should I cut off the paper around the wool or not, at this stage?:S5:

I can't believe no one has said much in this post.
DO NOT remove the rockwool! The roots are growing all through that thing. If you try to remove it you will simply tear most of your roots off the plant and kill it. Rockwool is intended to stay on the clone. In hydroponics like Ebb & flow. The cube is often the plants ONLY decent support in the grow rocks.
In the future if you don't like using the rockwool, use dirt.
As for removing the plastic. You can if you like. You'll need to when your ready to move it to a bigger pot, But if you want to veg in there longer leave it for now(keeps the water in the plug).
Will the plastic around the cubes stop the roots from growing out the sides, if not taken off?
First time cloning and ladies look spectacular at day 11.
what type of medium are you transplanting into smoothy?
if hydroton, then it's not a big deal about the plastic, but if you are going into soil i would recommend removing the plastic as it will hold water more if you don't and it can cause some problems.

Rockwool makes cloning SEEM easy. :thumbsup:
rockwool also has a tendency to hold water, and cause pH problems. not to mention you have to find somewhere to get rid of it.
i use peat pucs and have no problem cloning at all.

good to know shake.. i had been wondering if pucks would work as i dont think that i have access to Rockwool around here but i can get peat pucks no problem.. do you do anything to take care of the acidity that people often spout about?
and would they work in a bubble cloner by themselves or would i have to put them IN something to make em work.. or is there a better way to treat the wee lil babes??

i've never had an acidity issue with peat pucks. i take the cutting, shove it into the puck (after wetting them of course) and then place it into a rubbermade tub and slap saran wrap over them. i haven't lost one this way yet.Quote:
