if you were stranded on a desert island with a grow room and some plants, and you had to choose, would you rather have one 1000w hps, or a 400w hps and a 400w mh together. why?
1000 watt hps, more lumens :D

I wouldnt use either. I would grow them outdoors on the island because it is deserted. Simple enough to me.Peace...MrP.
ummmm, the desert island gets no sun cuz its in the cloudy zone. but for real, which is better to have if thats all you can have?
go with the 2 400w bulbs cause they will provide more of a variety of different spectrums of light more like what the sun has for young to harvest. Keep the MH closer for 1/2 the life and then keep the HPS the closest for the last 1/2 and u will have a happy grow.
so the variety of spectrums of light is better than the 200w you lose and the extra lumens from the hps?
plus you now have 2 blubs that will last twice as long and the 1000w because your only using one bulb at a time so you can get more crops!!!
i agree with having a hps and MH, having just a 1000 hps will cause your plants to stretch to much between the internodes, the buds won't be as compact and you won't yeild as much.
