4 - 100W CFL

Good morning everyone, hope your all doing well.

I have a quick question about this cab. grow i'm working on.

-The dimensions of the cab. are 20"X20"X3.5'
-Inside painted flat white
-I'm only growing two plants at a time, (just starting out)
-I have 4 -100W daylight CFL's (2 for each plant) With a ghetto reflector shield to concentrate the light downward.
-Organic soil mixed with bloodmeal (for nitrogen supplement), mixed with pearlite, and little bit of peat for filtration.
-for nutes/ Miracle grow all purpose plant food at 1/4 strength, moving to 1/2 strength in a week and 1/2.

-The plants are currently 3.5 weeks old.-


Now my question for you is 4/100W CFL's enough light for two plants in the vegetative state, or will i need more? Right now they seem to be doing pretty well, besides the fact one plant lost a leave early from a unsecured light. Other than that their growth has been steady with new set of leaves producing every 3days.

In another week i will begin LST.

I've been doing my research, but a little unsure about the lights for the small quantity of plants i am growing...

were you would respond. Scroll down and click manage attachments the attach your pics. Upload 5 pics and if there are more just repeat this step. Now on the cfls what is the lumes it puts out per bulb? Hope fully that helps and when the pics are up your question could be answered better. Hopefully this helped.

For ventilation i'm leaving the door open with a fan in the door till i find a better solution.

camoxnhx- to answer your question about lumes they are each :1,400 lumes

so 1,400 X 4 = 5,600 lumes for two plants

So as for your ventilation try using some 12mm cooling fans from radio shack and 2 of them cost me 13USD. So you want to try and keep a decennt amount of airflow going threw the box to keep it cool and also help build strenght with your plants. Your reflectors are the shit btw for them being getto rigged and they look like there working well. For some ventilation ideas check out my box grow(link below) it will help with ideas. Also what strains are you growing btw. They look indica dominate. But that should be enough lumes but extra cfls never hurt :)

camoxnhx: thanks for the tip, i'll be heading to radio shack sometime this week.

I'm glad you like the reflectors, fuckin MacGyver that shit.

As far as strains, it's just bagseed. So i'm unsure of their genetics. As soon as i get one or two solid grows under my belt i'll lay down the bills for some good seed. Trial and error right now, learning the process, when to water, when to re-pot, when to nute.

Yea man not no problem. But radio shack is the shit. I was almost gonna pic up some solar pannel kits to run my box off of but I don't know how many pannels produce the energy I need to run my box. But for sure keep us updated on your progress. Also did you check out my ventilation system for my box yet?

Now that could be a great idea especially with this "going green" movement. So if your growing "the green" and your "going green" it's really taking propagation to a whole new level. I don't know much about solar panels, and how much it would take to power a small box. (with wattage and all) But that should be a discussion in some forum here.

As far the plants are doing:

They are holding up well, although i'm beginning to reach that point where i'm wondering whether i need bigger pots?

The ones their in now are: 7" deep(soil) by 9" wide(diameter)

I know they are going to need a transplant. They are coming up on a month old and have a pretty secure root ball for transplanting. Plus i think the one is feeling a little cramped, leaves are a bit smaller than its sister.(you know)

-Does anyone suggest using a rooting hormone when re-potting?
-Should i do a soil flush before i re-pot?
-If i do a soil flush is there any special or better way to do one?

Agreed That would be a good thread post. Now when you transplant your ladies you want to water them and let them drain before transplanting them into a bigger pot. After they are watered and your other pots are ready with some soil in them... Put your hand over the pot with the stem inbetween you middle and ring finger and tip her upside down and give her a nice little tap and out she comes. Now for rooting hormone when you transplant it's not needed. Now how many times have you fed and flushed your plants? Also do you have a PH testing kit for your soil?

Ps how close are your cfls to ur plants btw?
