Root Mass
Ok guys, so I just began flowering of my first ever crop and yesterday culled the males outta there. The question is, is there anything at all functional or useful about the root masses? There were two boys, grown hydroponically in 6" pots meaning 216" cubic inches of root mass per plant. That just seems like a lot of material to dispose of. Any info is appreciated. Thank s guys.

Root Mass
root mass is directly proportional to upper canopy ... limit root size, you limit bud area, too ... leave 'em large, as long as white and healthy ... :smokin:

Root Mass
Uhhhh, yes. It's the same as asking yourself just how important your circulatory system is. Roots are when nutrients are uptaken so "brushing off" the importance of root care will completely undermine (or even destroy) your entire crop.

I think he wants to know if there is anything he can do with the root masses from the two males he pulled, using them for something else instead of throwing them away.

Root Mass
Jkal nailed it. I appreciate the rudimentary approach guys, but yes I do know that roots are important to plants...There's a picture too.
I'll rephrase:
Is there anything to do with dead/non-growing root mass?
Thanks

Root Mass
throw it in some soil, it can be used for more nutrients.
OR
I think you can throw it in a flood table, you will most likely need Cannazym to break it down properly or you'll get a bad case of root rot.

Root Mass
Sorry.....I'm a known peanuthead but sometimes I even forget myself. Not that I can think of....always tossed mine.

Root Mass
so if i put them in soil with cannazyme for a while, will that work to break them down into nutes?

Root Mass
Just soil is fine, Cannazym with soil is just overkill; but you do have quite abit of roots...use your best discretion.

Root Mass
me thinks dead roots invite pathogenes,no?
also decomposing organics take away N until the very end when they give it back plus, and this takes a while.
so its not really hydro anymore
but the root mass is related to the yield
ya know the old angle of the dangle story
