Okay, so I've bought some distilled water thinking that it's the shit. Then I ended up buying a liquid pH tester and it turns out that
distilled water is acidic in nature.
So be very careful! pH your water after you add nutes so you don't
end up getting nutrient lockouts!!!
Dear Noob:
Everyone (else :D) knows that no matter what type of water you use....even tap....should be checked and ph adjusted every time you add any to your plant. That goes for soil as well as hydro.
And if they didn't know it before.....they do now..... :wtf:
My plants didn't like distilled too much. Made them a bit droopy. Even with pH of a perfect 7.
Went to filtered tap water -- no more droop. pH with that was 6.5. When I added nutes to the water, pH went to 6.3. Perfect!
Most likely because the proper ph for soil applications is 6.2-6.8. Hey....the plant already knew that. ;)
It's because there's no calcium carbonate in it like in tap water.
Add CalMag. Problem solved.
Hey Stinkyattic, would it be okay to use epsom salt instead of calmag?
There are many advantages of using distilled water, too many to list - smile!
One in particular is "You are guaranteed that your plant is going to get exactly what you put in the water, there is NOTHING in "Pure Distilled Water" accept "H2O" that certainty is a major benefit when using ferts/nutes in hydro environment.
Distilled water has no impurities as such - Nil chems, Nil TDS, PH-5.0 and you're guaranteed of the above - grin...
It is perfect for cleaning (removal of salts etc) materials/testing pens/gadgets, fantastic for the transport of nutrients to the roots, there is no blocking of any nutrients (Accept if it has the wrong ingredients - no matter what water then - grin), great for flushing etc...
I treat distilled water (The best, 100% H2O, chem free etc) like gold; I would strongly recommend everyone use distilled water if you're growing hydroponic...
Again, it is not a necessity though, but the impurities (Fit for human consumption) in drinking water, can build up and become quite dangerous to the plants indeed...

Anyways, do a little reading on "Pure Distilled Water" and you will see the amazing benefits, as opposed to tap water...

No. Where's your calcium gonna come from? That's the more important component. Quality ferts contain decent levels of Mg anyway.Quote:

Sensi Cal (By Advance Nutrients) will take care of that. This is one product I know of and I'm sure there are many other ways to add calcium to your water...
