My Root building routine...What do you think of it?
Ok, Gang..
I like to force my seedlings to reach stretch for the water...so I will open up the rapid rooter and move the seedling down to its first set of leaves..I like to let them grow about a 1/2" or so and do it again...I will continue to do this till its just the right height...you will see what I mean as you keep doing this....I cut out the circle of plastic to let the rapid rooter sit right and the tap root can extend with no problems...it takes a couple of trys sometimes to get the rapid rooter situated like I like but its well worth it in the long run as the roots just keep on getting longer and bigger...
Give me your thoughts, if you would...
Thanks,
Treetops
Peace

If you slide the roots down, you're likely breaking off the finer roots that come off of the tap root, and attach themselves to the plug, aren't you?

Morning Rusty,
Thanks for checking this out.I actually open up the split rapid rooter and move it done...I know there is some harm done but its minimal and I try to be as careful as possible but I do realize the small root hairs do get broken off, the plant doesnt seem to be affected for the most part.....and I am getting a small compact plant, with the majority of its roots being developed ahead of its upward growth..especially since many of us grow in small cabinets..
If one has a stretched young seedling, in dirt dont we all just repot it right up to the first set of leaves? I'm doing the same thing, but in a rapid rooter, and making the young root reach for the water..
Your thoughts please..
Thanks,
Treetops

Those feeder roots (and their tips) are needed to uptake nutrients and moisture. I'd just be leery of unnecessarily tearing those teeny tiny roots, especially on a plant so young.
Perhaps the other surviving roots can make up for the defecit, I guess I'm saying I'd just be leery of opening it up to the light and air at all, but if it's working...
If you ever get to wondering if it's effective, a side-by-side could save you shitloads of time in the long run. Or did you already try that?
Also, I'm really not one to talk about caring for your roots, lol.
Keep in mind this was a mature plant. But I butchered the canopy and roots, lost my heater, (which killed all but this plant, and one other) but she came back strong.

Evening Rusty,
I agree with you in regards to the tearing of the roots...and in that regard I am most careful..most times no roots are torn...they will pull out of the rapid rooter...I have done it to all my grows, with what I call nice grows...but it was bag seed except for my Hawaiian Snow which was 14.5gms.. I am still learning and experimenting...This Sour Jack was done that way....My goal is to grow a compact plant, but a forced matured one...with a mighty robust root system...
Nice job on the your girls return even like you said, with your butchering...
Thanks,
Peace..

Just thought I'd show you all, what my kids..the SJs look like as its been awhile..:) I think my method matures the plants roots, which in turn matures the plant, making it more mature and low to the ground..giving it more head room to bud..I am a rookie grower, just trying to try something that I dont see too often discussed...Just flipped to 12/12...gonna be a full bedroom as they are all taking off now....
Thanks for looking...
Peace,

So hopefully the plants will be that more robust in the small closets we grow in...which in turn gives us more buds...

interesting expierment. I'll be watching this for my own personal knownledge on future grows. I'm a fairly new grower too.
Good idea to play with. Thanks for the log.
