What languages do you speak
I just randomly thought about this, its amazing how there are so many different languages, It would be so simple if there was just one then everyone could understand each other, but i suppose that it what makes each language special they are all different in their own ways, different ways of expressing yourself, so i was just wondering what languages people here speak fluently? Only english for me but i would love to learn spanish somehow, I could never be bothered with french in school it didnt interest me but spanish does it sounds nicer than french anyway lol.

english, but my PASSION is spanish. i took spanish as a required course in 6th grade ( back then i had little respect for the hispanic community so i was reluctant to begin) and i took to it immediatly. it has changed my life! i've been studying espanol for about 7 years, and i am majoring in it, i decided spanish was what i was destined for once i realized the knack i have for it.
i live breathe and eat spanish. i dream in spanish, i have conversations with myself in spanish, i narrate my life (while i am alone) in spanish, i studied abroad for a month in Spain, i taught my dog anf my folks spanish. i love speaking it, i love the way it feels as it rolls off my tongue, how it feels when i translate things in my head and beautiful diction just comes spilling out. i love the way it sounds, i love the machanics of grammar and i love the synamics of conversation. i dont really understand why spanish has consumed me but i know that i enjoy it.

don't get me started, i'll never stop! but thanks CC^^^^. i don't think i will ever want to stop learning, i hope to get a phd in spanish linguistics. i have a 'gift', i suppose, for language. i'm a voracious reader, an eloquent writer and i devour anything related to the ways in which people communicate. i think you should learn spanish, it so beautiful. let me explicate:
-the word for 'i'm sorry' in spanish is 'lo siento' which literally translates to 'i feel it'. for example: when someone's grandmother dies, i would much rather say 'lo siento' as in 'i empathize, i feel your pain' rather than 'im sorry' which is apologetic rather than empathetic.
-when someone sneezes, en espanol you respond by saying 'salud!' which translates figuratively into 'to health' and literally to 'health'. i'd much rather wish someone good health when they sneeze than a blessing from 'god'
-when you want to say 'you are welcome' en espanol, you say 'denada' which, when broken down' translates literally into 'of nothing' as in 'it was nothing' . 'hey thanks for the cake you made' 'it was nothing'- 'oye, gracias para el pastel que horneo' 'denada'
see what i mean?
