Are edibles/teas/etc. more efficient than smoking?
I'm a new medical marijuana patient in California, and I've wanted to try to make some teas but every recipe I find asks for a lot. Even if it only calls for low grade stuff, for one serving that's still far more than if I were to be smoking it!
I always thought cooking with cannabis was a far more efficient method of getting high, or am I completely wrong with that assumption? Most of the recipes I've read call for anywhere from a gram to an 8th or more, and it doesn't look like in the end they serve much more than a single serving. Even when using lower quality bud that's a lot of money for just a one time use!
Is there something I'm missing here? Most of the recipes don't actually say how many they serve, but I usually assume just one. I'm smoking on a daily basis and I know that is not healthy so I'd rather make it into tea, but if it is less efficient I can't do it.

i usually smoke up to 3 grams a session. thats not that much bud. with around 4 grams you can make decent brownies or, what i do, cupcakes.

so do you get more or less high than if you had smoked it? I'm not really looking for a longer or more intense high, just a healthier method of using it. I don't have money for a vaporizer, and I figured eating it would be best way anyway. But for me 3 grams is a lot, it takes me weeks to go through an 8th...so thats why im wondering if the high last longer or if people are just getting more fucked up because they are using so much more mary j than if they were just smoking it.
I've never eaten it by the way, so I'm excited to try something, but at the same time I don't want to over use what I got cause it wasn't cheap!

Dude, one gram is a joint.
and yes, eating gets you much different high than smoking, and i find it more intense.

eating cannabis baked into food takes time, precision and attention to detail. You need to use a cheesecloth, mix things up, mince the weed, bake, blah blah blah.
step 1: put weed in pipe
step 2: light weed
step 3: inhale smoke
step 4: be high
step 5: oh wait, there is no step 5 you're done.
Smoking weed is much more efficient. Ingesting cannabis takes longer and gives you a "body high" similar to pills and many other things that are taken orally. Smoking takes effect instantly since the bronchioles in your lungs are a direct pathway into your blood stream hence faster and a different kind of high.
If you want the healthy way, vaporize
If you want the fast way, smoke a pipe
If you want the long, more wasteful way, make cannabutter and bake it into something.
Your choice.

eating or baking weed into something is more healthy than smoking but also a lot more wasteful. you can burn through it faster through food. It gives you a much longer high and different high. the high can be like smoking a good indica, or even give you out of body experiences. but if your looking for that kind of high try pills and peyote cactus. Smoke your weed dude

My mom has told me since i started smoking, get me three knee high plants, and i;ll get you two pounds of butter.
I didn't even think that there would be much thc in a knee high plant, but wtv.

If it takes you weeks to go through an eight (3.5g) then I doubt you are doing that much damage to your lungs
However, the most economical option for you is the vaporizer and here is why:
If you cook with weed you will likely use 3.5g per cooking session! So much more weed than you use now and that will mount up quickly in $$$ If you were buying say an eight every few days...
If you vaporize then you will need the same amount of weed (or less) as you smoke now - so an eighth will still last you ages :). Investing in a vaporizer (even something like a Volcano) will pay for itself in saved bud and healthy peace of mind. Plus you can still smoke on occassion and not feel so bad :)
The added bonus is you can even bake the left-over vaporized remains and get high again! Just grind them up into a simple brownie mix and go for it - the weed was already heated (and therefore decarboxylated) so it will work once in the mix. They won't be mega-strong but there should be up to 30% of the thc/cbd in there still.
The Volcano is about $390 on ebay (new) and as it is a patented medical device it might be a better option for a med patient ;) If there is a club you can go to and try one out just do it.
Good luck

The other option for you might be Green Dragon - it is a tincture so you need some high quality alcohol but it basically makes a simple high potency drink.
With a dropper you could add it to almost anything making it an easy-dose system.
