If your ever in my area, you have to....
We all have things we love that are special to the city or region we live in. What are the foods, entertainment, etc we all have to try to get to if we are ever in your area.
If you are ever in New Orleans you have to:
1. Try a doberge cake(french word and can't get the correct symbols) from Joe Gambino's bakery. One of the only mafia owned establishments that wasn't shut down by the government in the 80's due to money laundering. The lemon is my fav.
Gambino's Bakery
2. Go to cafe du monde and get some coffee and beignets.

3. If you like night life and want a little hole in the wall alternative bar, hit up the Saint in the garden district. Park close to the bar though because it isn't a great area...
4. If you would like an amazing but expensive $30 meal go to K-Pauls.
5. If you want to buy some art, head over to the gallery of light. All their work has a different feel based on the amount of light hitting it.

Acme oysterhouse was great when I went to New Orleans even though I don't really like oysters those buggers were delicious. All the people there seemed mad cool, but IDK if it's the same because I went before Katrina.

Yup, and K-Pauls is a famous resturant too. They are famous for a reason, because every one should try them. :D

It's mostly the same. People have really dragged out the Katrina thing. Yes, there are still people who aren't completely back on their feet, but for the most part things are back to the way they were...
Crime is still super high post Katrina, but it is mostly drug dealers fighting over turf. The New Orleans dealers who evacuated brought back dealers from Texas. Dealers who rode out the storm or came back sooner took over other peoples turf. So basically you have a cluster fuck of illegal activity and all these morons can do is kill each other over it...
The mayor recently blamed it on rap music... that is laughable.
Rant over.
For the most part, everything is up and running same as before.
So in short, they are likely still serving delicious oysters. The media like dragging out turmoil for as long as possible though. :(
