What strain would you pick?

Hello !!! :D

I just cut three clones, and put them in my rudimentary cloner. A 6" pot with three clones. I hooked-up the NutraMist to that, and we're on our way.

I hope the clones come out fine... I sprayed them with the waxy-spray, and dipped them in the rooting hormone powder. Lights are 8/16 cycle.

NutraMist is turning ON for 1 minute every 2 hours... I don't know if I'll have to change that schedule. I used General Hydroponics' clone mix, and dumped everything into the NutraMist.

Let's wait... and wait... and wait...

I've uploaded a video of the NutraMist in action... hope you like. It's on it's lowest setting, plus, it has 0.25gallons OVER the recommended 1.75gallons... and when it's over filled, the fogger head's performance decreases. Anyways, cool video.
Sorry for the shitty "Please register" message, but my camera records in Quicktime, and I ain't able to upload a .MOV file to the boards... so, I searched for a converter and found the program... but it pasted that message all over the screen. If anybody out there has a big enough heart to send me a cracked program, I'd really appreciate it.

I want to know because when I veg the clones and bend them into the screen (SCRoG), I don't know if I should "top" them. I'm vegging only for 2 or 3 weeks... So, I don't know if I'll have enough time when I "top" them. Thanks :) :smokin:

Well, um, they're regular CDs (5.75"). The pot is really small. It's 6" diameter on top (4" bottom) and about 6 inches high. It's just for cloning for sex.

Ok, yesterday, the thing with the fog video was: I took the video with my camera, but it records it on .MOV-QuickTime format. Sooo... when I uploaded to the boards, it "isn't a supported format".

So I searched for a .MOV-->MediaPlayer converter, and found one. But after conversion, the boards didn't accept the file either. This was already late in the night... so I said fuck it. Went to sleep.

I'm more relaxed now. I'll search for the solution soon. :)

Hello guys,

I just opened my mother cabinet, which I'm using for cloning...
The situation looks bad. Really really bad.

I've changed the NutraMist ON/OFF cycles... I'm running 1minuteON/9minutesOFF. Hopefully that'll do something.

I'm including a pic... so you can judge for your self.

They're all fallen over... limpy, at best. The look dry. Let's see what happens.

Let's see Puff... I'm having a hard time working with the clones...

They are going to look like crap for the first few days the trick is keeping them alive until they develope a decent root system... my suggestion... buy a dome... it will help with the moisture majorely...

Hello Turtle :) Once you top/pinch a plant the new stems will grow very quickly.
I usually start inducing flowering about 4 -5 days after pinching and the new stems can usually be seen to start growing then.
What I keep meaning to try is to leave them a little longer after pinching and before inducing, maybe a couple of weeks but as of yet I've never done that :o

Just got home... clones are looking even more worst than before. :(

Anyways, NutraMist is still going 1minON/9minOFF. I now upped the fan speed of the NutraMist to 7volts. Tomorrow, I'll work on the dome... so it seals off the fog more, um, better.

My super duper X10 timer didn't turn on the 400W MH today... I don't know why... I turned it ON/OFF through my computer, but it didn't do jack shit. So I relocated the relay to another outlet, and it works. WTF? So, I just ended up connecting it to the other side of the room... everything running fine now. I'm just wondering why it quit working... it isn't like a change in the electrical wiring was done.

Interesting note::: I was looking at the breaker box of my house, and I noticed something very peculiar, and very usefull for my growing-status. The room I picked to grow, has two breakers... yeap, two circuits. One breaker is 15Amp (typical), and the other one is 20Amp. Wuhuuu!!!!

That means I can split the bulbs, fans, equipment load through two circuits instead of one. :)

What else...???

OH YEAH!!! QUESTION! Super QUESTION:::
I just read in the Indoor Growing Cannabis Book (Cervante's book, sorry to get the name wrong)... I read in the book that flourescent light DID NOT WORK FOR USE IN CLONING FOR SEX.

I paraphrased what it said, cause I don't remember it word for word, but that was it. Flourescents will not work when used for 'cloning for sex'. Why?

Please people, some input on this. Because if this is true, then I'm wasting my time right now with my "cloning for sex" thing.

I'm wondering, why doesn't it work? I mean, yeah, flourescents suck in lummens, but... isn't it the photoperiod that matters?

I vegged and flowered with fluorescents, with a rough setup, and my first grow to boot. I had no ph testing stuff, I used tap water that i let sit for a couple of days. It can be done

maybe what they meant is that after growing from a hid or mh fixture that degrading the light source to a cfl would be more difficult to flower or even longer due to the difference in lumens other then that i dont have much to add except the typical great grow and keep it up

Thanks man. Out of interest, how long did the entire grow take?
Does it take more time, or less to grow (seed --> veg --> flower) with flourescents?

I'm going to go ahead and 'clone for sex' using my flourescents. Let's see what happens. After all, the hobby is about experimentation.

I'm uploading two pics. 1st one is what I saw when I opened my cabinet this morning... something that happens once in a while... not too often, but it "slips my mind" to water them. These plants get pissed off fast! If they don't get their water, watch out!

Anyways, the 1st is before, and the 2nd one is (guess!!) after. How much time in between? ............ 61 minutes. Those plants move really, really fast. They're almost as fast as a turtle...

CLONE UPDATE: Haven't opened the box. NutraMist has been turning ON for 1min every two hours during the dark period... need to work today on: fog dome, and sealing the light leakages to the mother cab (used for clones right now).

I've estimated that i'm running about 7000 lumens in my setup. Yet, I dont think I've taken full advantage of them. From what I've read and seen there wouldnt be much difference between vegging and flowering with fluorescents and hid lights as long as the lumens are the same. I've managed to pull it off with an incredibly inefficient setup, from what i've learned personally. If you have the bucks and space to get a hid, then get a hid, if you dont, the go with the fluorescents. You can be a little more creative with compact fluorescents. Make sure they are color adjusted as well. This is just my take on the whole argument. Oh it has taken in my estimation about 4 mos for my grow. It would problaly be a month less if not for the many mods, mistakes, and general mishaps. :stoned:

Thanks for the input Brego. I won't get an HID because the cabinet is simply too small. I'm going to have to build some kind of cool tube... or "cool box" for the HID MH bulb.
People with experience, does a 250W MH put out a lot of heat? Or something comparable to four CFLs? Are there 100W MHs? 150W?

Update on the plants: Doing great. No problems there. They've grown quite a lot recently... I'll be LSTing them a little later tonight. I'm uploading a pic that's about 2 hours old.

Update on the clones: :(, and then :(. After :( :( and :( without :( so :(. Finally, :(, so I though :(

I'm uploading a pic of the clones... or what's left of them. I think that the one most in the rear is picking up its top growth... but the other two... well... the other two are in a bad shape.

Regardless if the best one works or not, I'll have to re-do the entire thing... I need to know the sex of all my plants. So, we have to start over...

But I've got some improvements, I'd like your input on them...
I'm re-doing the "clone for sex" thing again... but I'm using the same 6" pot, with a almost-100% sealed "humidity dome". This specialized clone "dome" was obtained from a salad box. It'll work pretty good. As Dr. Kaze said, we need to try and keep the fog around the leaves.

Second improvement::: 18/6 hours of light, instead of the present 6/18 (yes, 6 light, 18 dark). After they pickup a little, we place them 12/12 or 6/18.

Third improvement needs input: Should I use the waxy spray thing on the leaves? As I'm going to have a dome over the clones, holding the fog inside and around the leaves.

Input from veteran clone-wars, Battle of SCRoG, would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry, they won't be dying. After I snapped the pic, I watered them, and I'm sure that 61 minutes later, they where fine and dandy.

The cloneS!!! I'm doing Clone Wars v2.0 later today... this time, it will work!

Well, the night is kind of slow... so I'll figured I'd do the update.

I finished off the mother cabinet. Did the air intake properly, with grills, light traps and fresh outside air.
Then did the hole for the fog feed hose. Sealed both of those up pretty good.
Did some light leak proofing on the front door panel. That's working pretty good.

Ok, as to the clones... I'm uploading two pics.
You can see just when I placed them into the cab. Then, placed the cover over them and turned ON the NutraMist fogger. The cycles presently stand at 1minON/9minOFF.

When the fogger turns OFF, the dome is fully covered with fog, as in the picture. But, after about 6 minutes, it's already clear again... apparently, the cabinet's fan sucks are through the gaps of the clone dome.

As of right now, they're looking pretty weak. All fallen over. BUT! I've got faith... I've got faith that the 5-6 minutes of fog around the roots/stems and the fog over the leaves will make them come alive.

Interesting NOTE: This time around, I did not use waxy spray for the leaves. I just used the rooting hormone.

You can create really intricate cycles with the program. At dark (night) time, my fresh air fans turn ON for a couple of minutes then OFF.

This is day 2 of my second attempt at cloning.
I'm attaching a pic. You can see that two clones have clearly "stood up" already... the third one isn't pointing upwards, but it's working it.

They're making it! They're going to make it!
I'm planning on changing them 12/12 as soon as the 3rd clone pics up.

Things done differently than Clones v1.0:::
1- Only 1 43W CFL is turned ON, instead of 3
2- The clones have a "fog" dome (or humidity dome) that gives the leaves full fog coverage for about 4-5 minutes.
3- No waxy spray on the leaves
4- 18/6 light schedule, instead of the v1.0's 6/18.

Well, here's a pic of the mothers.

Not much to say, other than they keep on growing.

Rasta, now I'm wondering if I really do want to re-pot them... They're kind of headed to a bonsai-state of life. ???

We'll be knowing the results of their sex in about 14 days, if everything goes according to plan. Again, males... death. Females, we keep them.

I've been playing around with the FIM technique... pretty interesting. I'm still trying to get 4-5 new shoots out of a cut... so far, the best I've gotten has been three. Interested in seen where this is going.
