TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Hey again, yeah you can transplant the hempys. It takes a careful hand and is a bit messy but it can be done. I am somewhere around 2-4 weeks away from doing just that so I'll snap some pictures when it happens. I like to keep them somewhat moist when I do it so the perlite doesn't crumble away and create a nasty dust. :wtf:
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Yes please do....I really want to learn more about the hempys.....as much as possible (within my brain limits of course)
Thanks very much for the gift in the mail. Haven't had a chance to use it yet although Mr Hound did accidently cut off a finger. (j/k :D)

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Ok MVP....I'm going to be starting a hempy soon so stick around ok?
:thumbsup::thumbsup: So the first of my 4 remaining AK -47's have rooted....:thumbsup::thumbsup: :woohoo: I've planted her in FFOF soil with about 30% perlite added. Barring any unforeseens she should do fine from here on in. ;)
I started using Rhizotonic per my hydro guy and foliar fed them all last night 1/4 strength grow nutes per Stinky's previous instructions. Believe me those roots were NOT there last night. :wtf:
Anyone know how often I should foliar feed the rest of them until they root?

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
fang is gonna put out soo much bud...
beautiful plant
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
:smokebong: congrats on the AK!!! loves storks man...I have never foliar fed my clones till they started veg growth.. WH,(other than plain water..lightly once a day) so I dont know the answer to that..news to me...

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
I just try to make sure they stay moist.... and if your gonna foliar feed try to keep the nutrient to a 1/8 to 1/4 strength...
I've got some fat hairy roots on my clones at least on the survivors..lol...
later D:S5:

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Nice, real nice. I'm pleased. I've not foliar feed babies either, but I'm with d4 on 1/8 strength, at least for starters. As for frequency, I'm guessing every day or two would be good.

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
ok, I think I have some idea about "hempy" it's like a rooting plug or something? But now, what about the stork? <G>

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
So Fang is coming along great even though I split the stem about an inch while trying to LST her (I ALAWAYS do that :wtf:) but she just doesn't seem to care much; just keeps on growing. That 400w light directly over her is causing the back of the plant to develop as nicely as the front is. Usually our plants have somewhat lesser development in the back and this is what we wanted to change this grow. So far so good.....
Her ppms are at approximately 1300-1350 and will stay there until we start to flush her.
This plant is supposed to finish at 7-9 weeks.....I think she's going to take longer just because of her size.

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
This is a great log everyone, thanks for all sharing so much information there is so much to learn in this hobby of ours :)
This really makes me want to give this DWC thing a try with my next grow, Im sick of getting dirt everywhere ;)
Great strains, great grow , and awesome pics ...nice

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Ak 47....
The one is soil is doing great but the other three got too cold one night during a bit of a surprise rain and we didn't have the central heat on so two croaked and we've put the last one in hydro and will see how she does.
The soil one is really doing beautifully and will end up being our clone mom. :)
Related note: check out the cool new fluro set up we bought. The power plant clones also got too cold so we went ahead and planted them in soil and they are on suicide watch as well. :wtf:

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Btw.....those two little munchkins germinating in front are another Fang (Brainstorm) and an MK. We will be turning the Arjans Strawberrry Haze and SNL x NH shortly and just topped them yesterday in anticipation. :D
Edit: Shov my understanding of hempys is using perlite and/or vermeculite to grow your plant in instead of soil. ;)
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Hempy is a soil-less medium with 3 parts perlite to 1 part vermiculite. Standard practice is using a 2-gallon bucket with a drain hole 2 inches above the bottom of the planter so it simulates a water table or reservoir.
Watering every other day is necessary, perhaps daily if less than a 1-gallon container is used... hope that helps :D
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Fang is a super-size, WOW.
WH, I had a surprise kill in the garden Tues night. Lost a lot of plants, others are damaged. Must have been frost, but I never saw it and the forecast didn't show frost warning in our area (just upland a few miles though). Sucks. Have to replant lots of stuff today.
I'll check out that new lighting too. I hope weather warms up soon for you.
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Frost?? That sucks....We had yesterday 95...it's already so warm, it will be fun to water the plants whole summer...
Wh....the plants look awesome...and Fang, she's gonna have some huge buds for sure...

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
I have been lurking in your thread for awhile, and thought I would at least provide you some applause. Fang is absolutely amazing! I cannot wait to see her end result, and am rooting for her to be the pounder plus for which you are shooting.
Good luck in your continuing grows, and I look forward to leeching as much information from your thread as I can in hopes I will retain it for my future use.
Take good care out there! And, thanks again for all of the gorgeous eye candy!

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Hey Wh......whats up?? How is Fang doing?? Some update & pix would be nice...
Yesterday I received a one day old DP's Power Plant from a friend, I'm so happy.....gonna grow it outdoors....
(Those dogs in your new Av are absolutely adorable...:D)
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
She's getting pretty darn big and got a very nice frost developing so far but looking up close you can see she has a ways to go. I'm guessing 10 weeks altogether but wouldn't be surprised if she took a bit longer either.
Btw....Fang is a Brainstorm (Northern Lights #5 x Haze) just to refresh everyone's memory. ;)
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
The one in soil is going to be our clone mom. I topped her already and she's come back strong. We're going to transplant her into a 3 gal container and then try some clones after she settles in. She's a great, easy grower so far.
The clone in hydro finally took as well. Funny we kept watching it and saw nothing, nothing, nothing and then all of a sudden Mr Hound pointed out a root coming out the bottom of the net pot. :wtf: From there on out she's bounced back very well and I think will do nicely in hydro (fingers crossed.)
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
There are actually three clones and they all took well but the third one we burned by getting the big flouros too close and she is recovering from that and is camera shy. The two here are doing really well......the one on the right in the first photo will be our clone mom. Both of these have been topped already and have several layers of nodes even though they look small. I don't remember having my power plants in hydro looking this good EVER. :wtf:
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Your plants are the absolute picture of health  Fang's a BEAST
I think I Might give this DWC thing a try , soil is giving me to many headaches ;)
peace, and thanks for the help with my grow

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Nice AK-47s and PPPs.
So, Fang is almost 7 weeks and may go another 3 weeks? How tall is she and has she stopped vertical growth?

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Thanks very much everyone .....she does seem pretty happy doesn't she? I have a brand new one I just started in hydro as well. Maybe I'll carry the newbie into the flower room so she can see what she supposed to look like later. :D Right now she's just two sets of leaves.
Shov I honestly don't think she has really stopped vertically growing completely.....we've been having to move the light up a few inches every couple days and she still reaches her leaves up right onto the glass like she'd grab the light out with her bare leaves if she could. We DO see changes in her everyday and she's got plenty of space and root room so I'm sure she's not rootbound.....just big and taking her time (we HOPE!!)
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
BUT realize why they don't work for us in hydro.....you have to get the light closer which is fine in soil but in our setups we are constantly having to remove the plant from the bucket and the lower lighting gets in the way. Took me awhile but I finally realized that the HID lights can be farther away from the plants making things easier to deal with in the w/f buckets but the flouros have DEFINITELY found a place in our hearts and grow area. :)
PS...they also work great to provide low heat to new seedlings and/or clones as you can see.
We got rid of our SNL x NH....it simply was not growing well and when we removed it from the higromite we could see why.....I really MANGLED the roots with my early flushing of that plant (and two others) with and INCORRECT ph (close to 7) so reminder to everyone to ph ph ph.....especially in hydro.
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Those are four seeds we started yesterday.....3 SNL x NH and one Church (a hail mary pass with that one) so we'll see how they pop.
Due to Stealth's experience with the FFoF soil and the seedlings I spoke to my hydro guy who recommended something that FF makes specifically for seedlings and so that is what we will be starting them in after the rapid rooters. They told me the name but I have already forgotten so when I have the stuff in hand I'll let everyone know. (some sort of planting mix by FF....anyone?)

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
This is one of the two WW clones we took awhile back that was going to be our clone mom before we went semi-south on clones.
This soil plant has also been an experiment in soil for us as well so having nothing else to really judge her by I'll say she's doing pretty good. We've been adding nutes every other watering but are not really sure if we need more or less or ? so we're just making things up as we go.
INTERESTINGLY this is the first time we've grown a clone out to flower rather than plants started from seed and we've both noticed the same thing in this particular set of clones vs seedlings.....the yield seems to be fairly reduced considering veg time given both these clones (the other one is in hydro) is equal to what was given my other seedlings yet the amount the plant grew and the yield is definitely reduced from a seedling grown, vegged and flowered in the same conditions.
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
This is the second WW clone placed in hydro and turned to 12/12 one week earlier than her sister (and Fang.) As you can see the hydro sis makes the soil plant look...rather.....well...SLENDER in comparison.....but even so this plant did not "flower out" with the same yield etc as a seedling would have from the same age which we found to be information to keep in mind for future growing.
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Light Warrior Agro-Ponic Medium is FF answer to seedlings WH....didnt even know they made something for seedlings till stinky suggested Happy Frog...also FF....wala....

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
The Hydro WW looks def. better than the soil one...
Nice work Wh...truly beautiful plants....
Btw...what happened to the Power Plant??
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Zeb we dumped both her and the SNL x NH....both were having pretty good root problems that we weren't able to fix but DID help us with a head's up for future grows.
Tip: If you use a zyme product make sure it's not outdated. ;)
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Figured I'd stop in and say hi.
Looks like all is well?
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Hey Rhizome,
Great to see you as always. Hope the world is treating you and yours well. :)
We're doing pretty well all in all.....a few losses but more good things than bad at this point so :D
Our three SNL x NH have all cracked. Stealth....(or Stinky... or ...) I haven't been able to get to my hydro store......did someone say that Happy Frog is ok for seedlings?
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
She's finishing fast and absolutely no sign of any increasing bulk. All the pistils are turning dark brown and while she's still drinking a gallon a day and the ph is rising she just doesn't seem to be doing anything besides finishing up.....and NO WHERE NEAR the yield we were hoping for.
We'll be surprised if she coughs up 6 oz total. :(:(
We're not really sure why this is. This plant has been vegged for six weeks, topped twice, is under 1400 w of hps light, in a 10 gallon bucket with fresh nutes added daily and is known to be one of the highest yielding strains ever. The stem is about 2 inches thick and she has TONS of beautiful roots. The ENTIRE PLANT appears to be the picture of health.....so why such a SHITTY finish? :(
It's EXTREMELY depressing after 4 mos of hard work so Mr Hound and I joining the ranks of those who have had grow problems lately and feeling VERY bummed.....especially since we have NO IDEA what else we're supposed to do with a plant besides everything we already did to create good conditions for a good finish. And this is is just a total bust we think and leaves us without a plan for the future. If improving lighting, temps, conditions etc for your plant doesn't help with yield (but in fact sends the yield backward :wtf:) we just don't know what else to do. :(:(:(:(:(:(

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Hey, what you guys were trying to do was like extreem sports...do or die. You make the big sacrifices and expenses but no garantees. You give a great try and a wonderful and entertaining log. And, I'd sure like to have three ounces plants, never mind six or six-teen! Yow. So, no pity here. You guys do good all the time and still growing fine.

TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
I know I know.....I just did what Stinky said we SHOULDNT do which is count all your chickens before they hatch...:wtf:
We've got a whole bunch of new kids started as well.....took 3 AK 47 clones from our mom that are doing well so far and some new SNL x NH in soil (Happy Frog) that look pretty good (knock on wood) so far too. :)
I'm just bummed because I'm not real sure why this plant took a crap and decided to quit and finish early. I don't think we even had any light screw ups this grow.....
-
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Here's our AK 47 plants: The first pic is one of the original clones put in hydro and just now really starting to kick in and take off.
Pic 2: 3 new AK-47 clones taken from the mom yesterday.
Pic 3: AK clone mom.....doing terrific and you cant even tell where we took the three clones from her. We just put her in a three gallon pot at the beginning of the week and she's already got roots coming out the bottom of the pot so we had to thin her out and slow her down somehow and decided we might as well take a few kids. :wtf:
