legalisation? in the us? not a hope in seven hells...your govt has tried to pressure my neighbours the netherlands to change its ways for decades but the eu said fuck that. your government has threatened canada and MANY other countries anytime they've considered legalisation. they and they alone have done everything in their power to prevent a worldwide cannabis revolution. so im a bit skeptical. havent u noticed? votes in america dont count for shit....

lol, sorry, i should have elaborated. they let alaska away with it cause its not on their doorstep, and the demographics there are quite different. so a blind eye is turned. by the by, i heard their looking into reversing that. but anyhow, your obviously an optimist which is a good way to be, but i dont believe theyll ever let it pass in the lower 48. crazy things can happen though, and i fucking hope they do. if weed was legalised in the us (may take YEARS, state by state), the govt would stop stifling everyone else and the world will be a better place. god i hope it passes

I thought it was called the "methijuana" bill... whatever.
Anyhow, it's senseless to think any type of real legalization, even in one state, is anywhere CLOSE to being realistically possible. The Feds will turn their backs on a certain number of medical clinics in CA, but if stores in NV started growing and selling, there would be a few people thrown away for decades, and the example would be set. Even if the bill passes, it's all symbolic. You've gotta buy pot still from somewhere, right? There's a crime. Most pot smokers now use pipes. There's a crime they'll hit you with. Although steps in the right direction, these state and city initiative are really little more than good PR.
The trick would lie in a WIDESPREAD and intense public information campaign, or even mass civil disobedience, aimed at proving to people that marijuana doesn't harm people like the average American thinks it does. This is the reason few if any national polls show strong support for legalization, and sadly, it's the reason the Nevada initiative will likely fail to pass. Believe me, if we had 1,000 smokers in every major city who were willing to sit on the lawn of city hall, smoke a joint and get arrested, over and over again, the media would take notice, along with the masses, and eventually things would change.
You have to remember, there was a time when people in this country said there was no chance segregation would ever end. Public opinion means a hell of a lot in deciding public policy.

www.norml.org
check the alaska penalties page,
24 plants is legal in a residence
HELLO.........this has been goin on for many years now!!!!!!
pot cafes exist in canada where people can go smoke because law enforcement knows it is a waste of resources to enforce.
canada is a nation with a budget surplus
many companies ship seed to the US
states where it is legal to grow are likey not gonna have much enforcement hunting every peice of disguised mail for harmless pot seeds
YES, when our generation is old enough to hold high office pot "great legal wals" will begin 2 fall in great boulders of bricks

Yep,
I will TRY TO "drive this one home to legalization",
EVEN IF I FAIL THIS TIME, GETTING AS MANY VOTES THIS BALLOT AS POSSIBLE WILL ENCOURAGE FUTURE ATTEMPTS, EVENTUALLY WHEN THE YOUNGER GENERATION IS IN OFFICE THE WALL WILL FALL THAT KEEPS ADULTS FROM THC CONSUMPTION LEGALLY

People interested in changing the laws can visit NORML or Meetup online and search for medical marijuana to join a group interesed in changing things. I feel that the first step is to legalize weed for medical uses and change the perception most people have about the drug.
