If guns were to be prohibited, the guy that would rob you probably wouldn't carry a gun, eradication of arms takes a long time, but is possible. this decreases the odds of murder by a long shot.

In fact crime would increase, I suggest you look at statistics about gun control and crime rates. If I were a criminal and I had to look for a place to live I would pick somewhere that didn't allow its citizens to protect themselves.

oh yea, as for the argument going on... there are points to both side....

first, yes it could protect you IF someone breaks in... but how often has your house been broken into? is some 300 dollar dvd player or 1000 dollar ring really worth taking someone's life for? if so, this is a sad world indeed where one's possessions are worth anothers life.... next... go look up break-in statistics of your area, then of that find the ones that end up in the death of the home owner or others that DIDN'T break in... then compare this number to the statistics of all the suicides/accidental shootings/homocides commited with a gun in your area... the only way you can truely justifiy keeping a gun for safety if the number of non-burglary deaths/shootings DOESN'T out number burglary related shootings... as for saftey (gun wise as in keeping it away from your family) sure you may take precautions... to keep it away from those who shouldnt' be messing with it, but what happens when you're burryign your 12 year old because he thought it was a toy and accidently shot himself? or thought it wasn't loaded, or just plain out didn't listen to warnings you may of improvised? it's only human nature to be forgetful and make mistakes, so there's no way you can garuntee that it will always be kept safe away from those who shouldn't touch it...

however, yea if someone breaks into your house with a gun, you need a way to even the playing field (assuming they have a gun and are ready to use it) becasue you stand next to no chance of being able to fight off someone with a gun... unlike movies and shit that's on tv... you usually can't trick the person to get their attention off you for a second so you can pick up a heavy object and beat them with it til they're no longer a danger. in real life, if someone breaks in with a gun, and are ready to use it.. they aren't going to be quite so easily fooled, they will be ready to pull that trigger if they even THINK you're about to pull something, if you even sneeze they may get so jittery they'll shoot you right there... even if they only brought the gun as leverage and possibly use it if they're life is in danger. i dont' really have a side in this all, because i woudl look at all statistics involved and make my own decisions... more so, if i had nothing really worth it all, i woudlnt' care what they took, i have a conscience.. i won't shoot someone cause they break into my house and try to take 1000 dollars worth of stuff, that can be replaced, a human life can't... and that's all there is to it... the only way i'd kill anyone, is if me, or my family (atleast the ones i care about) are in danger... even if it was just risking them getting a slight cut on their arm that could be cured with gauze and medical pads.. no one will touch my family, nor harm them.. and if you do... you better have a contingency plan, because i'm coming after you.... and i'm coming after you like a fuckin bull... you harm my family, and don't have a way to stop me, y ou might as well say goodbye to the daylight... because i won't stop beating you until you're literally just a bloodspot on the floor, or the police come and put me in cuffs..

I have a ccw permit and I carry a gun with me where ever I go. A gun in your house is great, but chances are if you ever need one it won't be in you house.

I was raised to use guns properly since I was 8 years old. I feel bad that you lack the mental capacity to learn how to properly handle a gun and teach that to your children. 10 points? wow. The only thing sadder than walking into the forest to hunt with an automatic weapon would be returning empty handed. How do you NOT kill something with an automatic weapon, when that's your goal?

And yeah, I live in box. 3 cardboard walls and a roof. I could have gotten a fourth wall, but I sprung for the high speed internet instead... and I don't regret it. Apparently I need "stuff", and a gun to protect my "stuff" in order to not be a nancy (who still says nancy? It's 2006 now).

again such a quick but sad conclusion :( you still linger on the fact that 'criminals ain't gonna turn their guns over'. I know that. Every sane person knows that. But please consider this simple plain fact.
The number of guns will decrease when prohibition comes, right? Prohibition of alcohol triggered bootlegging. Of course. Prohibition will trigger illegal gun manufacturing. But both alcohol usage and gun possesion will drop, right? And it is completely reasonable to assume and proven in the valued statistics that decreasing gun possession leads to decreasing murder rates, right? Less people get killed. Simple fact, please prove me wrong.
So when less people get killed, you and your family directly have a smaller chance to get killed, right?
So why would you still stand for legal possession of firearms? The criminal can legally get one? :confused:

ok i dont fucking care if they are there to steal 1000 dollars worth of stuff or not, cause if so, that is 1000 dollars that i worked hard to make, and if not, it is my property, and they are not permitted to be there in the middle of the night. the same friend i talked about who got shot, it was during a burglary, but he probably saved his and his family's life, because the burglar had a gun, and he did, and he shot the burglar 3 times, before getting shot himself. the criminal is now doing life in prison, as he had committed two murders a few days before, and was trying to make some money to pay off the guy he got the gun from. now if my buddy hadnt been packin a .45, this man would have murdered him, his family, and escaped to kill other people.

Prohibition didn't work, take a history lesson buddy. If you outlaw guns you aren't taking them away from murderers, you're taking them away from law abiding people who want to protect their homes and their families. You're also taking away their ability to defend themselves against their own government.

If I were a criminal the number 1 thing I would pray for would be the ban on guns, that way I wouldn't have any resistence when I'm raping joe smoes wife or robbing his house.
