As it turned out, it's just not that simple.:(
The theory is sound.
The phytochrome conversion is fact.
Alas, it is but one of several triggers, so, in practice, this did not fly. It barely limped.
There's also a bio-clock involved, so gains from Far red are not as impressive as we hoped.
Some othe processes are involved that still take about 12 hours of darkness to complete.
Got a paper on it somewhere.
If it turns up, it's yours.
(Though I'm guessing that you will find it before I do.):stoned:
I suspect that L.E. is just responding to demand.
The hucksters, are slapping 735s, n skyfire orange, n umpty shades of white on their lights and they are all hardwired together. :wtf:
Almost useless, from my experiments.
The Far-reds need to be started just before lights out, and only need to run for 45 minutes or so to do a full conversion.
Still no gotta be useful to be marketable, yah.
It's a funny world.
Weeze

I remember you talking about a flower bed, a heated rock wall, IR...
That's where the concept started looking "real world" to me. Looked like maybe you could squeeze in one last shot of photon energy without disrupting all the cycles and systems.

Sorry so slow. Hadda think about that one. (Not sure it helped...)

Okay, just snooped around your pot pen a bit. What's the roof made of? Is it curved, or is that from how you secured it?
Kinda reminds me of our first house <snif>. Looks like that roof prolly leaks less than ours did, though. :(

26" X 8' clear Polycarbonate.
Flimsy, flat, panels.
Laid the sideways with an overlap.
Tied plastic rope loops through the cage, about 10" down both sides.
(Soft rope won't cut into the panels)
Then shoved a ridge "pole" up in the middle, to provide an even tension and bow the panels. for strength and run-off.
Don't need much slope, never snows.
I try to design everything as a "one man", low-rent, greenest kine, labor free, construct.

The first pictures looked kinda raggedy.
That first tie is just to let the sum warm all da kinks from da ropes under load.
Then I re-tensioned and relifted.
Damn good lookin' now.
Noah Leaky eider!
Waiting for cable to install the security system.
When it's finished I'll prolly start a thread.
Aloha,

Just observations looking for a link.

Well, you can fudge about an hour with it.
Dunno how strain dependent that is though.
Just advised MP to goose his next Laughing Buddah with it.
Aloha,
