New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Ok fellas here we go...I took these pictures yesterday while cloning and switching to 12/12...today is the official beggining of their budding cycle...I chopped off all of the bottom sucker on the plant leaving just the tops...hopefully i will end up with plants that look like a bouquet of roses je je je je...Remember that I snipped the tops on these babies...I think that is the best way to go with the T5 lamp...

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
I just decided on my system.. ..Thank you tico!
Great looking grow/s, man! I much enjoyed this thread!
I think I'm going with the tek T5 8 lamp model, and using the 3000k warm lights for flower, and the 6500k for my veg stage. This is a cheaper setup then what I had planned, and the results are pretty frakin great too.
I may eventually upgrade to a HPS, but if I do, I can still use this fixture for supplemental light and get even better results. Whew! Im glad I came across this thread, man.
Thank you again!

Hey JunkYard...im glad this thread could help in your decision...Im sure you will be very happy with your results all the way through harvest...I do recomend to snip the tops at least once when using this light for flowering...i am still getting it all down pat but im sure that this light can produce just like the big HPSs and MHs...on the next run i might be using some CO2....keep checking back for more pics...
I hope everyone is enjoying some good smoke while they reading this post!!:rastasmoke:

F54T5 are very efficient and should be low priced as there become more and more used for occupancy and hi-bay lighting. They operate cool. That's good too.

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
im thinking of starting a t5 grow soon but its gonna be tough to save money... for the entire grow. itll take some time.
hey tico the pics of the second crop your growing look like theyre growing under hid lites.
whys the light so far away and it looks brighter then before... are you still using the t5's..
if you already explained this then sorry... i didnt read every word on the posts.
im not sure if this was said but another advantage of t5's is they dont give off a heat signiture that would raise any suspicion through the eyes of the a infra red whatever.
i would like to build a custom setup with t5's... i dont want a complete set thats mounted together...
i visited specialty lights and i think i just need the ballasts the bulbs, the end peices and the stand offs but im really not sure.
if you know about that sort of thing... you the electrical parts. or if any one could tell me the parts that i need to make my own custom set up thatd be great.
nice plants tico
peace:thumbsup:

A fellow from Germany brought me over the latest Tek 8 bulb. Reading this thread is been great as I have had plenty of mistakes. These lights need to be 30 inches above the plants or they fry. I fried the first batch. They like to be centered under the fixture.
One thing I will say is the plants grow incredible fast. The clones not as much as the seedlings. I put 14 Northern Lights in 36 hours ago and they have all popped and started to go!
I only use the tek from growing and it does not take long. Amazing results. They get moved to a 1000watt HID for flowering. Pictures of the new seeds under Tek light. A chocolate thai top under the light. Make sure you have ventilation fan to exhaust as it is not the same as traditional lights and will get hot. HID is in a seperate closet. The hood is exhausted through a 6" air duct. THe room has two circulating fans as well as the exhaust. It can get hot.
I am too new to be using CO2 or anything. I just want to get my second batch through now that I have a better feel for the new Tek lights.

TICO BLUNTS those are some very nice looking plants how did you get them to grow so bushy like that?
is that just in its jans? or did you do something to make it grow like that

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
I've grown out a couple of small indoor crops with flourescents. I have a (4) lamp 4' 54 watt T-5 fixture with 3000K and 6500K lamps and 2 (2) lamp 4' 32 watt T-8 fixtures.
Shov's Afghani X Bog Grow
Shov's Bubblegum Grow also worked out very well. A very nice crop of stoney, mature (mostly cloudy trics) Bubblegum
I'm considering 400W HPS sometime. I'm sure it will work even better but I'll have to deal with the heat.

Haven't you heard? He claims it's the T5 that will do that even though he has yet to show us how he grows his plants so big before putting them under the T5? and then he disappears for harvest.
I'm not saying anything against the T5, but I def wouldn't buy one based on this thread alone.
I would like to see Tico grow from start to finish to see the true results of the system.

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Yo what up tico? Nice thread you got going. Its funny I found this thread today, because today I got rid of my 1000 watt HPS that was in my 4x4 homebox. Reason being it was way to fucking hot and was a bit overkill for what I needed Im just growing for me and my wife to have our own personal stash so we dont have to smoke that nasty brick weed anymore. Today I went to the Hydroponics store and traded in my HPS For the New Wave T5 8 bulb unit. There is no heat at all. I mean my homebox is at 80 deg compared to my HPS which was 96 deg last night when I came home and with the T5 I have my hydrothermometer about 8 inches away from my bulbs compared to 30inches with the HPS. I know the T5 doesnt have the penatration of the HPS but like I said its more suitable for what Im doing plus it will save on energy. Grow looks good, keep it up and ignore the haters. This light will catch on eventually, Do your thing boy!

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
There's a difference between someone who can see clearly and a hater. Do you realize that he hasn't posted in over 6 months?
He's missing in action AGAIN. I was VERY surprised that SO MANY experienced growers on here were giving him props while he was BULLSHITING his way through it. I never hated on the T5, I hated on Ticos' honesty.
On his first post, he claimed his plants were 2 weeks old. The next day, he claimed that they were 1 week into bud cycle.
Try to veg for 1 week and flower for 1 week and see if your plants turn out like the plants Tico posted on his first post @ 2 weeks old?
He insisted that he would make sure and follow through and post the results. But then he lost his computer and his bud and had nothing to show us. Came back shortly after with huge plants and ready to hype up the T5 some more. Once again, we did not see how he got started. And once againg, he disappeared for the harvest. Is it that difficult to spot a fraud?
His second ever post was a classic:
"I give the makers of the T5 a joints up !"
LOL!
What'z up Tico?

I never said Pass the shit was a hater. All I said was ignore the haters, feeling quilty?:D
Just more of a keep your head up and keep growing was all I was trying to get across.
Are you infatuated with Tico or something? If you dont believe him or think its all made up bullshit then dont read his post. For me I dont care there are so many people lying on the internet these days that half of what you read has been exagerated or made up. I just like the fact that someone else was using the New Wave T5 system just like the one I just purchased. It's all good bro, hope to see you around the boards.:rasta:
Oh yeah one more thing. How in the hell do I get a signature under my post do I have to have a specific post count before I can do that? Thanks.

What's there to feel guilty about? It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figue out that I've been the #1 hater on this thread.

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Hey pengrove I have those same hangers for my light but when I went to hang them the light was too heavy. How did you get yours to stay. I wanted to use those as they are so easy to adjust the height of the light, just push down and the light goes down push up and the light goes up. The guy at the shop told me they would work but on the package it says the most that the two could hold is 22lbs I know my hood weighs more than that, I have the white one the New Wave T5 I see you have the black one is it lighter or something? I really want to use those hangers they are awesome.
-
New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Hi D Rock. The one I have is the latest model which might be lighter I dont know. I used the hangers in the box and my buddy Mr Dave said he did not trust those donutnuts. So we figured out the maximum drop in chain and put that in throught the hangers and ran the chain up to a big hook in a stud. Then we tied on the donutnut just like the instructions said. At first we started to let go and it was going so I decided to just really torque down that thumbscrew. So we pushed up to that knot they have and really torque it by hand. Then we let go and it would not move. We really had to pull hard to get it going. I went and backed it off just a hair and all of a sudden it worked like in the display at the shop.
They do allow to angle and adjust daily with ease and I like them but the chains stay as a safety. I will take a photo tomorrow if your interested in seeing how the project is coming.
I am about a week into my Northern Lights project and the guys are about an inch and are getting their first true leaf set. I have the light 30" above now. Seems to be ok. Do you think I should lower it?? The heat the tek puts off keeps the 5 x 4 closet at 80 degrees which the little girls ( I hope ) seem to like.
I really messed up right out of the box on height and the kid you brought it over and laughed a little and said these are their latest version and he said they were a little better on light distribution. All I know is they work great.
-
New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Penn,
I think you should lower your light as long as the plants are still within a comfortable temp range. 30'' seems much too high for cool tubes. I would add ventilation if needed, but the light needs to get closer to the plants. Good Luck!!!
-
New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
although the T5's put out less heat than a hid light I had to move my T5 light up about another 2" my temp got up to 87deg in my home box I think a big part has to do with the weather outside it was 104 deg today. Here it is at 10:30 p.m. and the temp is 90deg feels like 104deg. I will be glad when August is over with and we get some cooler temps. I have a old house built in 1940 something and its hard to cool ecspecially in the hot months which is right now. As long as I can keep the temp where it is I will be fine with that, I left my hand under the light for about 2 minutes about 2 inches from the plants tops and it was fine...............I just had a thought......black radiates heat and my hydrothermometer is cliped onto the edges of my black bags. Im going to move it directly onto the dirt and see if this helps.
not even a minute after removing from the bag the temp droped 2 degrees.

oh sorry didnt mean to hijack this thread Tico :o guess I got carried away. where you at anyway? Dont make us T5 growers look bad.
-
New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Yes please keep the thread going. I need all the help I can get. And I am going to drop the light again and appreciate the suggestion. I will put the thermometer at plant height. With all 8 tubes going, it does put out a lot of heat. But the guy at the store said that "light saturation" might be intense if too close. What does he mean and is he pulling my chain? Learning more every day. Thanks
-
New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Penn,
Don't worry about light saturation. Just make sure they are not too hot. If the temp is right, the more light the better.
I don't know if you have a grow log going or not, but starting one is a good idea cause others can help you if you have problems.

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
I dunno about using these eight bulb T5 Tek lights for flowering. I did buy one recently, purely for veg, and for that purpose, it's great. It's got two switches on the front, each one turns on four of the bulbs. Doesn't get too hot. It's 40,000 lumens, which isn't a huge amount for flowering (even a 400 watt HPS does a fair bit better than that). But for veg, I gotta say, this is one dynamite light. I have no regrets at all on the purchase. I highly doubt I will ever try to flower with it though, although since you can get warm bulbs, it's clearly possible. I just doubt the yield would be very impressive. If he got 5 ounces dry, well, that's probably going to be pretty much the average for a 40,000 lumen light - in other words, for the power used, it's okay. If you are using one box for the entire growth cycle for security reasons or space reasons or whatever, then it seems a reasonable thing to do. Otherwise...doesn't really compare to the lumen-generating and canopy-penetrating power of an HPS light.

thats why we growers use LST. Maybe I sould do this with my plants altough it might be tough using grow bags, hmmm Im going to have to think of how to LSt with bags instead of a pot. Any ideas?

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
I personally think they rock!
Below is the product of a T5 (4 - 4 ft.) grow. 6 weeks of veg under 4-6500K "cool white" bulbs and currently under 4-3000K "warm red" bulbs. The photo was taken 18-19 days into flowering.
The strain is G13 x Diesel.
2 gallon pots (going to switch to 5 gallon in a few days).
All Fox Farm products: Ocean Forest soil (started seeds in Light Warrior); Grow Big, Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom nutes.
I keep the lights no farther than 5 in. from the tops at all times, and the lights are so cool that I never worry about or have had any problems with burning.
I've heard about diminished yield with T5s but so far everything looks good... but we'll see.

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Does the 40,000 lumen equal more than the 53.000 lumens of a 430 watt hps if the distance from the plant is decreased? Isn't there an inverse square law on light penetration? Legitimate questions as I am not sure, been a long time since in physics class.

New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
My understanding of the measurement of lumens is that a lumen is how much light the source gives off to a point that is one foot away. So 53,000 lumens would be the amount of light a plant gets when the light source is one foot away. So if the source is two feet away, then the plant only gets 1/2 that amount or 26,500 lumens.
Conversely, bringing the light closer, say 2 in. away from the top of the plant, would increase the amount of lumens the plant receives. Can someone confirm/refute this as I'm not entirely positive of the latter portion of this post?
-
New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
Well I will throw in my 2 cents...
I use T5s for veg and I will use nothing else. Some growers that I talk to say that T5s will not promote a hearty enough plant but I think that this is not true!
Plants love T5's! They veg fast and get strong for a fraction of the wattage. I use 2 4' long Sunblaze44 T5 arrays. The reduced heat is the biggest plus and you can spray your plants with almost any fungicide/pesticide/inocculant without any burn!
I do believe however that yields are reduced when flowering under T5. The lumens are just not enough and the light diffuses to quickly especially if you are trying to penetrate a deep canopy.
I have 2 flower rooms. One has 4 X 400 watt HPMH full spectrum bulbs and the other has 3 X 600 watt HPS using Hortilux's Super HPS bulbs. I love them both because they each have a lot of upside. Ultimately I want to get both rooms to 4 X 600 watt Super HPS lights. T5's can't touch that!!!!!
-
New Wave T5 Grow...IM NOW A BELIEVER !!
I too like the T5 setup for veg. Currently i use 2 - 105watt 6500K CFL's for my vegging. I have a small Med garden so I only flower with a 430 watt hortilux hps. I would like to go to a 400 watt T5 for veg and a 600 watt hortilux for flower, someday when I have a little extra scratch.

There are 2 kinds of T5 tubes. One is like the oldfashioned, just stronger(and thinner),kind of HO.Then there is "Compact T5 tubes"
These are double and on 55 watt each. One unit usually consists of 2 or 4 compact double T5´s.THESE are the ones to buy.Today they can be bought for the price of an oldfashioned tube some time ago. ;)
Usually they are in a mixed spectrum too.One doubletube is cool white, and the other cold white.
But the other T5´s are absolutely also good to use.It has become more easy and cheap to light da ladies.!:rasta:
The picture is one of my Cinderella 99.Have been in flower 3 weeks today.
