~DAY 86~
Checking in on our test-clones. They have been in flower for 17 days now. We originally said that we would flower them just to see the sex, and then throw them out due to their puny sizes, BUT I cannot tell a lie. We are going to flower them all the way through just to get some nice bud to smoke whilst we are waiting for our larger crop to dry, which has not yet even been flipped into flowering. We will be doing that today also.
I'm super excited about the nice looking tops that these things are developing. The hairs are coming out very nicely. The three on the left side that are still small are the 3 that we missed the first time around cloning. We are flowering them very early after rooting, but they're really just to show us what sex these three plants were:
10 (big plant in the left side), 11 (original thrown out, but we have a beautiful short top growing and LST'd), and 12 (thrown out suspected to be male and very spindly, but we still have a clone).
Let us know what you think! :D
TGF
More pics of the rubbermaid flowering box. Dont let your plants grow into your lights, they will burn. :( Its coming back slowly but surely. "Damn, youse an ugly bitch", but hey, I'll still SMOKE IT! Ping! hehe
TGF
The last pic are the 3 that we don't know the sex of yet...guess what? So far 2 of them (11 & 12) are confirmed FEMALE!! Only one more to go! Damn we's gots lotsa bitches!
~DAY 86~
Good news and bad news. :) :(
Ok, here's a look at our right-side, which I will now refer to as our "main flowering room," because what'dya know, we're gonna start flowering the 5 big plants we have in there!
Look at the one in the rear corner. #13. Sh*t, f*ck, damn. It's looking wierd. Yellowing leaves. Some getting brown and crumbly. Not good. What is it??? We dont know. Magnesium Def? Maybe. Phosphorous def? Probably not possible yet. Mosaic Tobacco Virus? Very possible :( We shall see. Luckily it's not affecting all the plants.
Couple more pics of the afflicted plant.
One wide shot of the main flowering room.
Look at these roots go! They were so READY to get out of those stupid plastic wrappings. They have exploded out into the hydroton. This has allowed the plant to bush out on top. We definitely learned something here. Don't let your roots get rootbound. I honestly knew about this but I didnt think ours were rootbound until I unbound the roots!! LOL
Well, reason we are taking them out like this is that we had them in that plastic tray covered with hydroton, but there was no drainage, we were simply watering them by hand. We will now install our Ebb & Flow (flood & drain) system. Wee hee. Auto watering is awesome.
So to install this system, we must completely remove all of the 5 plants and the hydroton, clean it out, install drainage, cut some holes, etc. I will show you in the upcoming pics. WHAT A ROOTBALL!
*packing a bowl, sparking it up....mmmm*
:rasta:
TGF
Gotta install the ebb & flow system.
Drill holes into planter,
install drain spouts,
make hole in wood for drain spouts,
cut out intake holes to provide more intake.
The last thing on that list was done because our negative pressure was too high and we had to leave a flap of the door open to provide extra intake. Now we shouldn't. It's not pretty, but I dont have a jigsaw. :)
TGF
Couple more pics of the afflicted plant. :(
Putting the plants back in the main flowering room. I have put the plants in different positions. The afflicted plant (#13) is int he front-most corner now so I can keep an eye on her. I have also tried to give each plant the most room possible to grow, while still keeping the high number (5) of plants in there. :D Also, topped it off with some more hydroton. :D
Oh by the way, this reminds me, before we put them back in and stuff. We did test our ebb & flow system and it drains PAINFULLY slow, but works. It fills pretty damn slow too. We might get a larger pump to fill faster but I dont think that will increase the drainage time. Hmm? Well it works for now. Just fill for 15 mins, then drain for 15-20 mins. Twice a day. Any questions?
TGF
Here is the left side, from now on just to be called our veg room. We have our mother plant, Mambo #5 in there in the back. We have #10, sex still undetermined in there. We also have our beautiful #11a, a top from plant #11 that we have tried to keep as short and compact as possible. If you remember, we performed LST on her a little while ago. She's taking to it just fine, it seems.
TGF
Oh, and if you look at pic #3, that is a pic of some heat damage on Mambo #5. Damn, I though CFLs were supposed to be cool!
Note: we did change our CFLs from 23 watters to 42 watters. to try to keep the plants down. This might have (well, for sure has) affected the plants.
Second run of clones. Most of these came off of the 3 plants that we did not know the sex of at the time. That would be #10, #11, & #12. We also have a couple #6s up there since we cloned it and ditched the original runt of a plant. It looked horrible. Onward!
Look at those roots man! WHOOOO. Thems some vigorous plants. Someone said cloning was hard?? I cant seem to kill one. ;)
TGF
We've transplanted all the small rockwool cubes into their new, bigger homes. We are also attempting to FIM!!! I honestly dont completely know how to do it, but from what I understand, you just "pinch" off the top new growth, less than full topping. Well, I did it. I think to plant #11b or something. I also topped a couple other ones. They're overflow and I really dont have a place to put them, so they are my experimental clones. :D
pic #3 & #4 are the attempts at FIMing. I dunno. We'll see. If anything, it'll be topped. LOL.
Off goes the humidome. Closer come the lights.
TGF
One last look at the flowering box before I leave. Another wide shot of the closet, with the main flowering room's door fully sealed. YAY. And a birseye view of the veg room with it's new lighting. :D:D
We have also gotten pretty much all of the wires out of the bottom of the cab. We installed a 15-min delay hot start/high-temp shut off switch to the flowering room so we dont burn anyone. And we've rearranged some of the wires so there is no danger of water touching them! SAFETY FIRST!!
Thus ends DAY 86. Be back to check the girls in 4 days. Can't wait to see what happens!!
Feeback?
TGF
*Packs another bowl*
Cant wait til we can get some dank ass sh*t like this without having to pay some shady dealer. I can only hope ours looks close to something like this. MMM. Anyone wanna hit?!

Please let me know what you think of our grow so far by commenting and/or voting on my thread. Thanks :)
Where'd you get the little round CFL reflector/socket deals? Home Depot, WalMart? I need a few of those too, and since you probably know where to get them, figured I'd ask and save myself any extraneous driving around. How much were they, if you recall?
Lookin' good to me, bud! Glad you made sure the wiring won't get wet! ;)
Yea, thanks man. I took your comment into consideration for sure. :D
In the US, probably try Lowes/HD or any hardware store. I'd assume about 7 USD for the reflector/socket set up. 7-10 USD for the CFL. But that's just a guess.
TGF
:)
Man i wanna hit on that pass it over .. lol looking good this thread moves so quick im having trouble keeping up.. i was thinking though your flowering those 5 big ones are you going to have enouf room when they stretch?
Well, bud breath420, we have that same fear. There is really not much we can do about it either. Since we built the shelf it is setting on all in one piece, we really cant lower it down. We will be able to lift the lights, but not that much. I'm considering chopping some off...like a massive top. It is not the best solution, but the only one I can really think of. We let them stretch too much in the beginning, then we vegged too long after that waiting for the clones to show sex. We wanted to keep them short and we did stop the stretching as soon as we placed them under the HPS, but it was too late. They have now been set to flower, so we will start to see the stretching any time soon now. I think we're gonna have to chop them down some tho. :(
Any other ideas?
TGF
Edit: Hmm, I dont know if I even mentioned the fact that we set them to flower on DAY 86. Well, the flower room is at 12/12, FYI. :D
~DAY 90~
~DAY 90~
Still having problems with the possible magnesium deficiency with the one plant #13. I haven't had a chance to go try to add the epsom salts. Will do soon. Others look ok. A little sad in the main flowering room. Veg is doing fine. Rubbermaid flowering box, well I'm gonna have to show you! WOOT.
TGF
More pics of the main flowering room. These plants are 3 feet tall. They were pretty healthy until recently. One is doing pretty bad, the others just look droppy or maybe lacking something. I've upped the flowering nutes from 25% to 50% since last time so we'll see how that works out.
TGF
Psssssht.
EDIT: OH OH MENTAL NOTE: These plants are in were started to flower on DAY 86 and now it is DAY 90. They are in DAY 4 of flower. :D Cant wait!
Veg room. DAY 90
A few more pics of the veg room.
Well, got some other pics from DAY 90 as well. Some of the veg and some of the flowering rubbermaid box! But I'm too tired to post anymore. Gonna have to do it tomorrow or something. Enjoy the pics. Gimmie some feedback.
OH, and here's a little teaser of the rest of the pics from DAY 90. DAMN, that's sweet.
TGF
Wow, you vegged them for nearly 3 months? Those things are going to be giants!
I think moving that bottom shelf down a bit would be the best option.. as well as lifting the lights you might be able to pull it off..
It's possible to veg plants for a long time and keep them semi-smallish, by keeping the plants in small pots and letting them get rootbound. I have a Durban Poison x Skunk #1 plant that I've been vegging since...mmm, April I think, maybe May, in a half-gallon pot. It was one of the freebie seeds from seedboutique.com, the only one that successfully germinated. I'm actually growing Blue Mystic this time, but haven't had the heart to just kill this Durban Poison x Skunk #1, so I transplanted it to a 5-gallon pot and threw it in a spare closet yesterday with some CFLs. Was thinking about buying one of those cheap Inside Sun 250 watt HPS lights too, just for that plant. *snicker*
Yea, now that I know how to keep em short, that's not going to be a problem in the future. Basically you have to have enough light so they dont stretch. I dont really think the pot size matters for height, at least not in my case, cuz if you noticed, mine got really tall while just in those little 4" rockwool cubes.
Most important is to keep strong light on her so she doesnt stretch, and topping helps stunt the vertical growth some. But like I said back on page 10 or something, I couldnt really top these plants cuz then they would grow wider and I didnt have any room for wider plants! LOL
But if you look at the one I'm doing LST on, I planted it really deep in the rockwool cube so it doesnt have that 6"-8" stretched base on it, plus I've been keeping a dedicated CFL beaming straight on her so she doesnt stretch. I've topped her once and will most likely be topping again today. :D I'm also gonna try to get good at the FIM technique and supercropping, and use it to create nice monster bushes. :D I've beeen tempted to get one of those $95 250wHPSs too! I still just might
Hey, budbreath, remember I said I cant really drop the bottom shelf down any? :) I wish I could, because that really would solve my problem. I could even put the resevoir under the left side because we're hand watering those now and they dont need a res. I'm probably gonna convince cohort that we should chop those tops on the flowering plants :( today and make them 6 to 8 inches shorter, then just hope they dont "triple" in size. Double....I might be able to handle, but not triple. Cant wait to see how it turns out! :D:D:D:thumbsup:
TGF
Page 12....ping!
Should I start another thread??
The mothers are DAY 90 from seed. These are the second run of clones. They are doing alright. Not as well as the first run. I dont really know what we're gonna do with these yet. LOL. Anyway, here they are. We've attempted to FIM 2 of them and top another.

DAY 90
DAY 18 of flowering in this rubbermaid box.
HAVE A PEEK INTO OUR AUXILIARY FLOWERBOX...
Let's take a slow stroll around my small garden...
Here are the plants in bloom. They are 18 DAYS in flower at this point. Pistils are multiplying rapidly and standing straight up. We saw trichomes for the first time today. I will put up a couple pictures that show that much better a little later.
Mind you, we were using this box soley to sex our large plants. We planned to discard these plants because we did not veg them properly. BUT, we could not. We said to ourselves, "Selves, how could you just toss them out on the street like some piece of garbage?! (gasp!) Even if you only get a 14 grams from the whole lot, it is worth it. You must go on." And so we did. :D:D:D
TGF
Note: Our large plants are about 2 weeks behind these plants, so we will have these to smoke while we wait for the large ones to dry. :D Ping!
Some nice developing nugs. MMMM, eat them CFL lumens! I want to eat one of the buds right now. lol

The plants are doing ok. There are some speedbumps but nothing has died! There is GOOD NEWS, though. We have positively confirmed our last plant's sex.
Guess f*cking what? FEMALE.
This means that we got a total of 10 females out of 13 seeds. That's a high frickin' ratio if I've ever seen. And we were worried about not getting enough girls! Holy Moly! I was not expecting that. Well, we'll hafta make do. So sad...not! ;)
Pic#1: One of the plants got burnt when touching the CFL. It is damaged, but looks to be growing ok. It might even be "FIMing" itself!
Pic#2: Our three 2nd-run test-clones that were all just recently confirmed as FEMALES! WOOT, and all that jazz. :D
Pic#3: Another plant affected by the CFL being too close. It wasnt damaged as bad as the other one, but still looked heat stressed. Its growing normally again now.
Pic#4 & #5: Two kickass pictures of some nice, crystally nugs. (I cant believe I'm seeing crystals/trichomes already! Wooohoooo!
Well, everyone, ENJOY! Will be back in a couple of days to post. That WILL be DAY 93 for the mothers. It WILL be Day 21 for the Rubbermaid box. And it will be DAY 7 of the main flowering room's flowering cycle! We still have to add some magnesium to a couple of the plants in the main room, top our #11a mother, and work on the clones. OH and we are installing another new fan on DAY 93. STAY TUNED!
Questions, comments, and feedback are always welcome!
Be cool...like ice.
TGF
Well, I skipped the cheap Inside Sun 250w HPS, and instead got a couple of these:
http://www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=31681
210 watts of CFL, in two bulbs, for $50 (with shipping). Not quite the perfect spectrum for flowering, but should still be okay. Gonna throw 'em on that Durban Poison x Skunk #1 and whatever happens happens. I might also have too many Blue Mystic females. I planted 5, and it looks possible that all 5 are female, and my flower box is only going to fit 2 or 3 of them.
So, I read a post by a guy who rotated plants under lights. Like, 2 females, but keep 1 of them in darkness for 12 hours while the other is under the lights. Then swap their positions, move the one under the light to a dark closet, and move the one in the dark closet under the lights. It'll be sort of a pain to move them twice a day during flowering, but I need exercise anyway. Heh. Basically, instead of turning the lights off for 12 hours a day, I'll just move the plants, and flower TWO sets of plants with one set of lights. That way I won't have to kill off any females. Sort of like a poor man's improvised munchie-powered light-mover! ;)
Those flouros definitely look nice. Might try them out sometime. Cant do the physical moving of the plants like you plan to due to inability to be there every 12 hours. Right now, we should be ok with what we have. Hope the mothers in the veg room can be kept under control while we wait for the flowering to finish. Then we'll have to re-evaluate the situation. Hopefully we'll get to the point where we have several Bonsai mothers of different strains and we can have some variety. We'll be hypothetically doing BG and NL next and we dont even really have room for our next batch of bagseed. Hmmm.
Did I mention that we got 10 out of 13 FEMALES! Wish for rain and you get a monsoon! Whew.
TGF
lol ... beautiful plants mang...those pistils are very crazy looking.. do they have like a pink tint.. cuz i looks that way from my end.. it might just be the hps.. watever... great job ..
Hmmm. Dunno. They look white to me...but then again, I'm what they call "colorblind" so it's sometimes hard for me to see tints. Are they pink? COOL! I was excited about the trichomes, but now the pink! lol
I used a small microscope to look at the trichomes. They look sweet as hell. Excited to see them get bigger and bigger!
Oh and they are not under HPS, but they are outside of the room that has the HPS, so it might be the light from there.
TGF
Great grow I must say it been great reading. I plan to keep checkin in form time to time. Keep up the great work the look well. Time to pack the bowl and call it a night.
lookin good man...
Thanks for the responses guys. Glad you enjoy the show. I'm enjoying it myself. :D:D We've just gotten to the exciting part! :D Buds to come! I have more updates from DAY 93 coming today or tomorrow. :D
