The problem is, even most of the dispensaries that have gotten good reviews dont deserve them. A medical marijuana patient should never pay $60 and eighth, that is just gouging. I think $50 an eighth is even expensive, but that should be the limit at a dispensary. In amsterdam the bud is like $12 for cannabis cup quality. I still havent found a place in denver where i can get top notch medicine for $50. I would expect to pay more around $40 and eighth. Anyone that charges over $50 an eighth should get an "F" in the price category.
So we know we have a price problem, but we also have a serious quality problem too. Even the dispensaries with the best reviews have lots of mediocre strains, and are still charging $60 an eighth. We are talking about run of the mill hydro buds with no smell or taste. Most dispensaries only have 3 0r 4 quality strains out of 20. I dont want to see anymore blueberry, ak, white anything. Medicinal quality marijuana should have a strong good smell , and taste, trimmed well, dried properly. Too much medicine with too many stems and leaves. Ive seen soaking wet bud at dispensaries. You shouldnt have to stick your nose in a jar to smell it, you should be able to smell it from across the room. The bud should be coated in crystals, no leaves, no stems. It should burn down to a white ash, and not be harsh on your throat. It should be dry enough to break up and roll a joint that burns evenly. Hydro bud is never going to be ass smelly, tasty, or as strong as soil. All medicine should be organic, even if its hydro. To me organic means soil grown. In amsterdam the term for soil grown is "bio". Anyone with half a brain knows that organic medicine is better than stuff with pesticides, and steroids in it.
I agree there is too much focus on indica vs sativa, and not enough focus on quality. If i ran a dispensary i would be embarrased to carry b-grade hydro buds with no smell or taste that havent even been flushed, cured, or trimmed properly. I find it somewhat offensive when people try to sell me this product for $60 an eighth.
One brown mouse is the only place i have been where all the medicine seemed to be medical quality, and that was over 20 kinds of good smelly medicine. They just need to get their price down to $50 and eighth.
That was pretty much a review of all dispensaries.

here here. though i think the debate between indica and sativa is more personal taste and not something dispensary related. they can have only one or the other and i'll still go check it out if everything else is groovy.

I have been bouncing between 2 dispensaries. The first is C-3. They have pretty good medicine. The only problem is the amount of time it takes the get it. They need to come up with a better way to see patients. The tiny room and the uncomfortable, weird basement aren't cutting it. The prices are great. Non-member is $50 1/8th and $350 oz. The kief is pretty good. I haven't had much kief in my life, so I am no expert. I did purchase some edibles (chocolate-peanut butter cup.) Tasty but not very effective. To Ricky's defense, he sold them to me for 2 bucks because he said they had been getting complaints about the quality. They need to get their new dispensary room opened. It will help with the pace.
The other dispensary is Front Range (88th and Federal.) This one is interesting. They do a high volume and it is obvious they are drug dealers gone legit. But, in spite of that they offer a quality product at great prices. Jim the owner is a great guy. The dispensary itself is on the end of a dirt road in a trailer house. It has plenty of parking. But, it can seem a little sketchy. They allow patients to smoke on-site. I have heard of people vaporizing at dispensaries, but not smoking. They usually have 15-20 strands. I got Afwreck and Mango. Both pretty good. Mango tastes amazing and the Afwreck was a great end of the day strain. The prices are great. 50 oz and 300-350 an oz. They threw in a free "Slim Jim" (pre-rolled joint named for owner Jim) last time I was there. Their are definately some ambiance improvements that could be made. But, honestly I just want a place with quality meds that I can go in and grab ond be on my way. They are great about getting your order and getting you out. They also deliver for free. I haven't needed this service, but it is nice to know it is there. Please take into consideration that I am no "Strain-man" so my opinions may be way off what the more experienced reviewer may have to say about it. But, they treat me pretty good. They are affordable. They are open 7 days a week (m-s 9to6 and sun-11-6). They suit my needs well.:hippy:

Sounds like you aren't gonna be happy unless you grow your own. You want it cheap, but it has to be grown in soil, which is more expensive by quantity than hydro, since the yields are lower (indoors at least) and it takes longer. If quality is more important to you than what strain it is, and you are unwilling or unable to grow your own, maybe you should try to find a caregiver to grow for you directly, instead of via a dispensary. While you won't (presumably) have as many strain choices, quality should be more consistent, and maybe the price will be more to your liking. I don't mind paying a little more to get what I know will be quality product, and have had very good experiences at Patient's Choice. The "guest" price the other day for their best strains was $58/8th, which is ok for quality, given the present market. I've now bought 4 different strains from them and every one was fire. I know lots of places to get meds for $40 or less, but it will still be in the shape of a brick. Might get some seeds to start your grow though.

Went by SouthWest Alternative Care Sunday, drawn by their craigslist ad KBPI's Willie B's MMJ Dispensary - Lowest Prices:thumbsup:
It's a two-room operation across from the DMV and Family Dollar on West Mississippi, upstairs in a bright yellow building on the south side of Miss., parking in front.
No real hassles with paperwork - they have you fill out a form that basically says "my primary caregiver is not available today and I designate ____ as my temporary caregiver." Lawyers advice, they said. Excessive caution, perhaps, but it felt like protection for them, and for me, in this uncertain environment.
Into the back room with one other customer. 8 strains to choose from, prices capped at $50/eighth:smokin:. Using my neophyte's "If it looks and smells good, try it" theory of bud buying, I got some Blue Dream and some Stevie Wonder. Both later (no medicating on premises) turned out to be very satisfactory - vaping the Blue got me buzzing on housecleaning! and later Stevie hit me early and soon locked me down. Good pain relief (degen discs) from both.
They were very willing to spend time talking about the strains, and just gabbing about the biz in general (note to self: Sunday during Bronco games is a good time to go dispensary shopping). They seemed more knowledgeable than me - not a great feat - though the knowledge level varied between the two employees back there.
They're not growing their own yet, but have a grow in planning. We talked about caregiver status once they start growing and they indicated they were leaning toward/thinking of a gifting + discount deal for primary patients once they get underway.
They have a punch card program, only one I've come across, to reward regulars. 10 $50 purchases will get you $25 shop credit.
Something cool - they showed me a set of books, "Cannabible" (by Josh King, I believe). It's a collection of lots and lots of strain history and info, plus lots of inside biz gossipy/history stuff, and some reasonable photography. The photos don't compare to StrainMans' macro stuff, but along with the descriptions should be enough to help identify what you're being sold. This was three - all three volumes - heavy stock medium format paperbacks packaged in a neat hard slip box. I loved it, saw it on Amazon yesterday for $17 (list$ 25). Seemed like it would be a good ref for a dispensary to have on hand - and offer to clients to view, help their shopping!
This was a good place. Good people, good product. I'll definitely be going back. Love the $50 cap. We're getting there!

It looks as if there is the bare beginnings of a "market" for patients developing on craigslist. There are more and more ads along the lines of "caregiver seeks patients" showing up, and they are getting more and more forthright about what they're offering to primary patients.
I think as more and more people get a non-dispensary primary caregiver you'll see them getting some size freebie every month (I've found ranges from 1/8 up to 1 oz, depending on grower/length of time they've been your primary) and a discount that seems to be settling around $40/eighth right now.
You'd think this will influence dispensary prices sooner or later, lower them. I hope so - I don't know why we have to pay inflated California prices here.
Shopping for a primary caregiver is a whole nother thing. All kinds of questions to ask - Amt of experience, varieties grown, hydro or soil, quality of grow room, quality of sample - come to mind immediately. More questions, more problems - but these I want to have!

Just for info purposes, the author of the Cannabible series is named Jason King, and the 3 book set you refer to lists for about $105 (amazon sells for about $70) in a hard-cover version, which I thought would be a little more durable. I thought the photomicrography in the books was the best I have seen as applied to our favorite plant, but in terms of useful, objective info, I prefer the "Big Book of Buds" series by Ed Rosenthal.

Starter is right. The bottom line is that at some point we're going to see these bud prices come down because when people figure out that they can get a VERY good amount of Meds every month (At least $400.00 worth) from a caregiver who knows their stuff, then the demand will fall along with prices.
There are SO many strains out there that I would like to try, but I have a budget, and that's fine. But the FACT is, we can have MUCH better priced bud and EVERYONE can still make good money. But we have to talk to one another and get our business to those who are in in for the right reasons. One guy told me"Once I get to making $60,000 a year, I'm going to lower prices across the board until all my patients are getting 2 ounces for free every month and I'm still making my money. My volume and work will increase but the people I work for are getting stuff for a lot cheaper, and to make that happen, to know that the joy is out there for more to have because of my work, what more could you want?"
That's the type of dude I want to empower. Is it possible that he's fronting? Possibly, but I'm a pretty good judge of character, and he's using this as a selling point, and he's already got the number of plants he needs figured and how much time they would take to work.
When people can get a deal like that with a pro, why would they give up their rights to a store that will sell them back their meds at still PREMIUM prices?
With that said, here's to stores like THC and Greatful Meds, and I can't say enough about the only place I've been to yet, and that's C3.
In fact I gotta make a run.

Just got back from C3 on 94th & Federal. I had sworn them off but decided to give them one more chance after somebody here mentioned they were done with a new retail area.
It's better. Same buds.
I like the new counter area. Was able to get in and out in less than 5 minutes.
I know it's medical stuff and some people will complain about privacy. In that case, they should have a smaller separate room for individual patients. Personally, I don't give a shit. I might even strike up a conversation with you while we browse through the different strains. We all know why we're there... pain medication. Whats the difference weather you see somebody in the waiting room but not inside the dispensary area where the cash box and the scale are located?
I am trying 2 new ones -- Master Perm and Euphoria this time. Of course, got more Maui - I like that one, even if it is a little leafy.

The amsterdam coffeeshop scene is mainly a joke. The weed i got from Greenhouse, Dampkring, Barneys, Grey Area, was not unflushed. I get medicine all the time from my caregiver that is just as good as what i got when i went to the cup in 09, and 01. I just dont see a lot of medicine of that high of quality at dispensaries, and its useally 20 a gram or $60 an eighth. I remember it being like $35 or $45 an eighth when i went to amsterdam, but that was a long time ago in 99. I know there is a lot of coffeshops in amsterdam with crappy bud, but the ones i went to during the cannabis cup had some of the best weed ive ever smoked. Soma cures his buds for 3-6 months, Dampkring dont play. The coffeshops i went to in Amsterdam had way better bud, and it was never $60 an eighth. I find it hard to believe that its $80 for three grams.

Colorado Dispensary Reviews
I wonder if Amsterdam's quality has suffered with the popularity in premium weed growing like it has? Maybe they used to be great and now it's not? That would be a shame. When was the last time you were there NS?
And to whomever got the Master Perm, let me know what you think about it. I'm trying to up my knowledge, but I've only been at it for a week. I'm good with wine and beer, and I am currently an aspiring weed snob :pimp:

03/04 was the last few years i remembering going to coffeshops and being impressed with the quality. and back then it was 5-10 euro for the best stuff around. and the exchange rates were much better. i just came back from holland two weeks ago, and the majority of the smoke was 12-15 euro and most the stuff under 12 euro was so bad i wouldnt give it to an enemy. and for every $1000 USD i would change, I would get $630 euro. So right off the bat your almost paying twice the cost due to currency exchange.so your 12-15 euro gram is now costing about $22-29 usd. And i seen grams that were selling for 17-20 euro as well... and not to be cocky or anything like that, but the cannabis that I brought with me, was far better than anything I saw in the coffeeshops or at the cannbis cup. and to be fair, the cannabis cup is a complete joke. greenhouse won the cup again with supersilverhaze ??? WOW. just goes to show its all a dog and pony show.... every year its the same thing, yet I expect something different...hmmm sort of sounds like the definition of insanity....hehehe
anyways fellas. have a great day and be safe out there in the snow,

Why is bud still the same price in medicinal states? Ive done my math and this is prices on excellent meds. I dont care what strain it is. A-Z. I will do 2 for 15, 3.5 for 25. 1/4 for 50. Zips-200. 100% organic Grade A soiless mix, 15 strains available + FREE clones for members (no hermies, mom from seed) and $20 a g hash (probably would'nt have much of this).
NWD Organic's center, now accepting patients. Thanks
But i live in Tx still and need 20g's basically to even move out their with everything paid for 6 months, to rent a decent house. Also i was thinking about donating back alot of profits through the year back to patients.
Im scared i wont make it in time though. Even if i do, it will be the original's that stay if they cap the number of dispensary's or something. Guess i could still just be a caregiver and deliver.
I honestly want to come out their and beat everyone's prices real bad. And the bud will be A Quality. I could go on all day how bad i want this.

main reason is its still illegal in 40 other states.....equals black market prices........prices wont drop untill its legal federally
also someone will buy all your bud for 200 an oz and resell it making more than you in one day..........all you guys who want to "REDO" the market are just short changing yourself.......the market makes the prices.....yes there are always going to be people bitching about prices but everything seems to be going fine out here....there are people who still want gas for a $1 but guess what they are buying it for $3.......youd be foolish to came out here and sell it for that cheap......shit your in texas where A+ goes for 5-6k a lb anyways

I just want to be able to get the best medicine i can grow to people who want to use it for the cheapest price, b/c i love business and competition. Plus i just want to do my very small % of what i can to get the prices down. It would put the dispensary on top if you got the LOWEST prices and some of the best medicine also. which isn't too hard IMO. Im all about good prices and respect, although you are def. right on the illegal in the other states. So what that means is alot of bud from their can cali. is making if all over the country b/c im seeing it. Mostly i can't stand paying $20 a gram. Why you gotta make 6400 a bo, when you could sell it for 7 a gram and still come out on top of 3000 a bo. I mean all you gotta do is get 20 patients, post up 15kw or 20 kw's and grow 60 big plants in organics. still get .4 at minimum but top quality, which would be 13 lb's every 70 days. 6.5 on 30days at 3000= 39,000 in sales a month off of 7 a gram bud. Minus maybe 8k in rent from disp, and grow area, minues another 15k a month employees. 4k elec. - everything. No matter what Still on top. But i guess that's the liberal side of me. Really it's a free market so the buyers name the selling price. Doing it to themselves. Like real estate.

Colorado Dispensary Reviews
Something I have noticed: The street dank value is decreasing. I just paid $240 for an ounce of White Widow. What is happening is tons of independant growers are bringing their stuff to Colorado to sell to the dispensaries. They aren't able to move it because of the caregivers sudden boom in patients. Caregivers get more patients, grow more plants, and the need for dank from California and BK decrease. So when the street value comes down by more than 25 percent, the dispensaries will be forced to compete. It is a win-win for the patient. The only problem is, patients are choosing to purchase it illegally for a significant discount in spite of being a completely legal MMJ patient. This is so ironic! But, we all know...money talks and bullshit runs a marathon.

To purchase from the street is not illegal ... as a med patient in colorado yr protected from subpoena. the second you buy "blackmarket weed" it becomes medical marijuana. and the source of the MMJ is protected by subpoena from law enforcement... If you find a good deal buy it

WOW. just goes to show its all a dog and pony show.... every year its the same thing, yet I expect something different...hmmm sort of sounds like the definition of insanity....hehehe
anyways fellas. have a great day and be safe out there in the snow,

Its not Amsterdams fault that the dollar is weak, and the exchange rate sucks. I havent been in 10 years, but it seems weird that the quality would have gone down. The cannabis cup is not a complete joke, its one of the most fun things i have done. A lot of fun being a 21 year old college kid from NC and going to the cannabis cup. I learned a lot about growing organically in soil, with good genetics. I got to sample tons of weed that was way better than anything i was smoking in NC. And i met and took classes from some of the top growers in the world. Just being around all those breeders and growers was worth going to the cup. I would not be the connosuier i am today if i hadnt gone to the cup twice, and i would love to go back. Have you been to dampkring or grey area or katsu. They dont have good weed anymore? That is sad to hear
Greenhouse won with Lemon Haze, not Super Silver Haze.
I am excited to check out your dispensary and see if the medicine lives up to the hype. Better than the Cannabis Cup is a bold statement. I hope its true.

Well I was born and raised in California around many amazing growers, so honestly when I went to amsterdam, it really wasnt anything specail (herb wise) because honestly, some of the best weed in the world originates from califronia. and sorry to say but the cannabis cup is a joke. it is basically who ever throws the most money at the cup will win. which is basically why arjan (greenhouse) and derry (barneys) win the cup EVERY YEAR. and their weed is NOTHING special. not even close. and even though it SAYS super lemon haze, any one that has any experience with that strain and the ways of amsterdam will immediatly disregard the name change, becuase even if i hand no nose and no eyes, id still be able to identify that strain as SUPER SILVER HAZE. and whats even worst, is that strain is getting pumped all over the dam under diff names, mainly amnesia haze. i still love amsterdam, i just dont really care for the coffeeshop games.

If you think the coffeshop games are bad, wait untill you see what is going on in most of these dispensaries in Colorado. Ive seen a lot of shitty weed come from Cali too, and I get weed from my caregiver that blows Cali and Amsterdam out the water, so i know what you mean. I really dont care about the politics of who wins the cup. I just go to have fun, learn, and explore different cultures. I respect your opinion, and understand where you are coming from. I cant wait to see your medicine now. :rastasmoke:
I still think that Green House and Barneys have a lot better weed than the average dispensary , even though you think its "nothing special." What i got from Green House and Barney's blows away any dispesary ive been too so far. I will come back to this thread after i got to CCF and let you guys know if the quality lives up to the hype.

YO, Colorado Care MMJ, i just saw your grow threads over on ic, and you definatley know what you are talking about. Your pictures are amazing, and i can see why you are tired of the cannabis cup. You have no reason to go, you have everything you want in your house. Cant wait to try out some of your kush, and the white. I will stop in next time i come through Denver

Hehheh really im not trying to hype anything, and sometimes coffeeshops DO have some really amazing smoke (silver bubble from grey area:jointsmile:). I suppose I havent really had enough time to stop by any of the other places around colorado, so I really cant be the judge of the local quality, but I do enjoy meeting new people and we always try to maintain an even balance of indica dominant, sativa dominant, and indica sativa hybrids on our menu. Thanks for the kind words towards my cultivation, I have spent some time under the HPS's and at the moment all of our medication was personally cultivated from CCF's gardens.
Have a great day everyone and be careful out there in the snow,

First, I'd like to thank everyone for continuing to submit reviews and little tidbits of knowledge. Though I've had the good fortune to try quite a few high quality strains, I don't know much nearly as much about this plant as I would like to, and every piece of information you share helps me and the others who continue to read this thread.
I made a list of the dispensaries that got the best reviews on this thread with the intention of trying them out for myself. After perusing the websites of the places on my list, I started with Delta 9 because they say all their medicine is organic, and one of the strains featured on their site is Cinderella 99. I'm not sure the medicinal properties of C99, but it was one of the few locally grown strains I could find on the black market in Alabama, and it tastes fantastic (I liken it to a fruit medley, with peach being the dominant flavor). The didn't have any C99 in stock, but the 6-10 strains they did have all looked incredible. I had become accustomed to mostly tasteless, dry, crispy buds from the dispensaries, but these were not in that category. Another post in this thread says the tasteless buds are hydro vs. soil/bio, and that would make sense as Jeremy the budtender (and grower I think, I was a little confused that day on account of insomnia) pointed out that the strains I was inspecting were all organically soil-grown. He strongly recommended the Strawberry Kush, and for that I cannot thank him enough. Premium quality all around, from visual inspection, taste, smell, and most importantly effectiveness. Very calming and relaxing feel, but only couch-lock if you are already tired. I can stay motivated on it or unwind in the papasan as the situation requires. It burns to a gray ash, as it should. Jeremy was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and I believe he is the grower responsible for the different Bruce Banner strains they carry, among others. Eighths are $55 for non-patients and $40 if you make them your CG, and quarters are $70-80 for their patients. I went back the next day and got some G13, which is a great couch-lock pain reliever for me. All of the buds at Delta 9 remind me of the homegrown goodness I would only find from growers at music festivals. The overwhelmingly potent smells will really surprise you if you are accustomed to the average dispensary bud, or what we call "commercial Cali" back in Alabama (which I now believe is hydro picked early and poorly trimmed and cured), the relatively bland, weak-smelling strains that you can tell would have been good if only a little love had been shown the plant. I have been so happy with Delta 9 that I haven't yet tried the other dispensaries on my list. I'm hoping to try some of their Bruce Banner soon, though I believe it sells out quickly.
I went to Amsterdam for a couple weeks back in 2004, and I found the quality to vary highly. Barney's, Grey Area, Dampkring, Blue Velvet, the Rokerij, and a couple others offered good buds, but with the exchange rate, it came out to be $50-70 an eighth, if memory serves me. You can find buds as good or better in America if you find a good grower. Some friends of mine went to a Cannabis Cup and made it sound like something that should definitely be experienced as a fun vacation/novelty. But marketing definitely helps separate the winners from the rest. They found it difficult to objectively judge, as they ended up with so many strains to judge. The winner that year was a strain called Willie Nelson, and Barney's definitely helped that one win by packaging it like an action figure or toy in a plastic bubble attached to a piece of glossy cardboard with Barney's and Willie Nelson prominently displayed on the packaging. While I would love to go back to Amsterdam and take part one year, I'm perfectly happy undertaking my own private Cannabis Cup here on Broadsterdam.
I plan to try out the Healing House soon so I can go upstairs and try something from their chef. A post in another forum mentioned a place near 14th and Broadway that is to be featured on the local news soon (if I didn't already miss it), and they are supposed to be like the coffeeshop/restaurant that just opened in Portland and made national news. Anyone have some info on this place? As I live in CapHill, I can walk to this place if it exists, and I'd love to write up a review for those who don't live as close but might be thinking about it.
Again, thank you very much everyone who continues to contribute. Reading others reviews and comments is often the highlight of my day.

I plan on growing my own eventually. I do have a caregiver that has been growing for me directly for 6 years, thats why I am so spoiled i guess. All these dispensaries ARE CAREGIVERS. They are in the MEDICAL business. They shouldnt be selling low quality medicine for outrageous prices. $58 for an eight is gouging. I dont see why dispensaries want to rip off customers who do not assign them as their caregivers. Your advice was good , but i am trying to get these dispensaries in line. And let some of the newer marijuana smokers know that they shouldnt be paying $60 .

I patronized the place I mentioned even though I grow my own, because I cannot afford the space or the time to grow all the strains I would like to try. Prior to the advent of "medical marijuana" (and the quotes are not indicative of doubt about the efficacy of marijuana as medicine but rather the sincerity of it's proponents, vis-a-vis legalization in toto) decent pot went for a minimum of $50 per 8th. Lets add a layer of profit takers, plus employees, taxes, now licenses, lawyers, etc., etc.,etc. You see where I'm going with this? I don't see where there is a huge profit in this business at this point unless the dispensaries are growing all their own product. Even then, the total uncertainty regarding the eventual legal climate is worth a lot, i.e. lets get all our money now while the getting is good. Can you honestly say you wouldn't do the same if you thought you might be out of business at any time, based on the whim of politicians? For the effort and $ I put into my grow, I would not accept less than $250/oz for my medicine, regardless of the buyer. If I sell to a dispensary at that price, what's a fair markup? You tell me.

I'm just not. So I gave C3 one more chance after reading they had been working on the presentation a bit.
You don't have the read it, ya know?

to whomever got the Master Perm, let me know what you think about it
Tastes bad to me. Smells bad to me. Gives me the munchies. Makes me tired. Not a very good buzz and did nothing for my pain. Buzz didn't even last that long. Found myself hitting the pipe again in an hour to kick in the buzz again. Was trying to get pain relief out of it, but never saw any real effect. Just ended up smoking more than I wanted too that night and gave myself a head ache. Glad I only got 1 gram. I think I flushed about 1/2g of it - whatever was left.
Overall impression: Epic Fail of 2009
But that's just my opinion and experience with it. Your mileage may vary...
I also tried some Euphoria. Pretty much the same impression as Master Perm - only the Euphoria was so harsh I about ripped my esophagus open with a coughing fit that lasted 3 or 4 minutes. I "disposed" of that to a friend who is also an MMJ registered patient but was broke at the time and couldn't afford any meds.
Back to the Maui. :stoned:
