There is, what looks like, an excellent counter move.
Re-links the knights and protects that pawn.
It may indeed be just that.
But plan ahead.
It's fraught with peril!
And may fall flat.:D
Aloha,

YOU MEAN KN - K2? NAW, NOT FALLIN' FOR THAT. DON'T LIKE THE WAY THE TRADES WORK OUT. I CAN'T EVEN UP THE EXCHANGE WITHOUT PUTTING MYSELF IN CHECK. AND IF YOU DON'T TAKE THE BAIT I'M PINNED DOWN BY BOTH YOUR ROOKS.

I can block with a knight, which is then protected by the king. But that undoes development of the knight.
I think retreating the king is better move.
How is K - Q Kn 2 (in the short term) ?
Thanks, Hermie.
That's the logical move.Quote:

End of game.
So, your last move was forced, and, this, you are not going to like either!
R X Kn. (Q2)
Ouch!
No worry though.
By my accounting you won this game a few moves back.
This is just instructional puttering.
And, should you move the other knight, the black bishop is still poised to steal a rook by occupying Q1.
In effect, still pinning your remaining knight.
Why?
Because, at this stage, that knight is your only hope.:(
Why?
Well, rook on rook is a direct attack.
A knight can attack both rooks, or a rook and a king with a fork through indirect attack.
Direct, vs. indirect, is an important concept.
It's part of what I like to call, "attack geometry."
If you think on it long enough, you will see the possible patterns as an overlay.
There is an attack pattern.
There is a defense pattern.
It is a beautiful sight.
This game is about tempo.
The next, hopefully, will be about openings and strategy.
Hope you are having fun here.
It gets easier, and more complex,
as concepts sink and sprout.
Then, all at once, epiphany!
I figured dis game out!
Made me "cry fo' happy".
Made me jump an' shout.

Aloha,
Weedzard.
Crap. Went back and forth so much I forgot about R x Kn. And somehow I had your bishop at B4, not Kn5, so I wasn't even considering (aware of) the double-teaming of my king.
You've gotta get that bishop to K2 (not Q2) to line up on my rooks, though, unless I moved them, too. Coulda happened. :stoned:
Need to reflect on this....:rastasmoke:
Kn - Q5. Emailed ya.

That's what I meant earlier about effectively pinning that knight.Quote:

a better move,

But it was check, if I wanted to continue in that silly direction. (Are our boards the same?) You coulda got out of it easy, then I'd haveta move my knight back to protect the rooks, so why bother? I'll think of suppin' else when I get a sec. Still behind schedule. BP's still good, tho. Amazon's running a week longer than expected. I thought the delivery date seemed over-optimistic. Sorry to read of your loss. Care is in order; assholes don't always stay onna outside. I've used red 5mm leds on all kinda old lectronic junk, powered with batteries, to simulate wireless surveillance cameras. Stick 'em all around. Actual wireless cams are pretty cheap these days, too. Now ya need to figure out a safe way to receive some "Hi. Homie" seeds.
So far, it seems immune to the bud rot that dogged the Shiva Kush, (least that's what my friend called her,).
That was the first girl to go missing.
Had to pull her under the umbrella at the first scent of rain or brown rot was assured.
Lost Homie II to what looked like a virus that entered a wound.:(
Homie I. looked, and smelled wonderful. She got ripped-off.
But Homie III, smells like skunks humping grapefruits and has 8 colas the size of my fist!
Took a "sacrificial limb" couple days ago.

Preliminary results on potency are also quite promising:stoned::thumbsup::thumbsup:

It takes me 10-20 shots to get a "keeper." And they fall generally into two categories: a) trichs like mad; or b) artsy-fartsy.
Ex. A: [attachment=o227201] [attachment=o227202]
Ex. B: [attachment=o227203] [attachment=o227204]
I'm sure you'll develop your own techniques. I have the best luck steadying the subject bud with my left hand, and depressing the "shutter" button with my right index finger, like target shooting. And "follow-through" seems important; I get better shots when I try to stay on target even after the pic is snapped. :rambohead:
What else... well, I've not had good results shooting offhand at higher magnification than 100x.
Access to the memory card seems slow via my USB, so I just load the whole card to the computer and view/delete them there. I can't tell what I've got till I see 'em big on the monitor anyhow. But it's great for really looking at trich ripeness. May come in handy for ya A/B testing with UV and all.
Big kids need toys, too. For me, back to the salt-free mines for now. :(
Enjoy, brah. Hermie
So it appears that showing up unannounced would be a particularly bad idea.

The bright side is that Homedawg the 3rd is living up to expectation.
Maybe you can buy them off. Twist up a few, put them in a clear baggie, hang them from the plant. Then Iâ?¦.I mean theyâ?¦.might just accept the deal.

After my last move (which I am reconsidering at this point). Of course, sometimes the wife "pretties up" the board--if pieces get unevenly bunched up, she'll move them around until the board's aesthetically pleasing to her. She likes things "evenly distributed." :wtf:

That would be why it's not really a check:)
(The Chech is in the male)
So, if ya did move your knight there, Black would probably pin it to the rook with his bishop, see?
White needs to pressure black's pawn at Qkn3 but is short on tempo.
What to do?
Ready to switch sides yet?:)
Have had little time to play with the new toy :(.
Still piecing together an alarm from ebay parts.
I want something slick enough that I won't need a sturdy roof on the cage. Just rain protection with decent light transmission.
Bought a car alarm and a 12V. tractor battery.
While a solar charger would be cool I really don't need it.
I have an extension cord running to the cage.
Unplug that, and the UPS will start beeping.
The UPS runs a trickle charger for the tractor battery and the air pumps for the DWC.
It's good for at least 20 hours on it's internal batteries.
The tractor battery is prolly good for over a month on a single charge as well. So unplugging, like resistance, is futile.;)
I'll use the Horn beeper output on the alarm through a small inverter to pulse the electric fence charger attached to the cage.
I like the idea of someone poking their arm though the cage while it's not energized.:D
If it kicks on then, well, I prolly won't need the siren.;)
Not relying on just the shock sensors either.
Installing tamper switches under the legs, and I've ordered an "RF field proximity detector" that I think I can tune for the dogs safety and continued cooperation in the "range wars".
Very difficult alarm to beat..
It's easy to spoof IR and ultrasonic motion sensors.
This pup senses large dense objects that come near it at a threshhold, regardless of motion or speed, by how much RF they absorb.
I'm also toying with the idea of using the alarm's light blinkers to trigger a couple surplus digital cameras.
I'd love to post a "surprised look" on the web.:)
Aloha,
W.
The board looks very congested like this (kef, kef) with your pieces all huddled together like that....:D

I like the proximity detector. I'm sure you'll tune in a fine system. :stoned:
"Okay, I'll try R - K4. I'd prefer to get my rooks off the red squares but my choices are a bit limited."
Off the red squares is good defense against the bishop but,
are you sure you want to trade rooks?!
Black can afford it, but white is short on muscle.
White is a piece behind now and as the board gets less complex, that becomes a bigger problem.
You might want to play that out for the next 4 moves to see where it heads, yah?
Might help to know that black plans to hound the king while snatching up white's win options, (the pawns).:eat:
Aloha,
W.
Well, all that makes sense.
Question: when you're playing things out 4 moves, are you just looking at where your pieces will be, or are you trying to anticipate the opponent's responses as well, thus looking at a whole new board? That's where I'm getting bogged down, cause there's lotsa ways things can go. (And I'm not so good yet at knowing what to look for.)
How's R - K Kn 5 look? Seems like I can get a free pawn outta that one.

Weez, would you look at the above-referenced thread and make corrections as needed? It started out as "how to dry out a Moist Milwaukee" but I got carried away...;)

And that, is what I mean about playing it out.:)
1st impulse is, to save the bishop's ass, yah?.
Bad impulse!
That move would give you 2 pawns.
Worth, nominally, 2 points.
To save a bishop that is worth about 3 points.
That "about" is important here.
Giving up the bishop, evens the points total, for white, but it also retains tempo, and saves black's hopes for promotion while hampering white's.
Well worth the extra point, because;
A bishop is good, But those pawns are now potential queens.
(Points are how a computer values pieces.
Q = 8 R = 5 B = 3 Kn = 3 1/4 P = 1 at the start of the game.
The worthy algorithms shave the points according to position and investment, but it's still about points.
Human thinking factors in potential value as well.
The bishop will never be worth more than 3 3/4 points.
Those 2 pawns are a potential 16 points.)
Now, is when black must use his time advantage to push his pawns and gobble yours up.
Keep that in mind when you ponder this;
R -Q2
Sorry li'l bishop c'est la guerre.:(
This is where playing it out gets easy.
The next 2 moves are predictable with some certainty.:)

R x B.
Tried it last night but hit the "server busy" window.
The next moves are not so "predictable" to me, though. What's next?
DH
P.S. Finally got some frosty-looking buds goin'. This plant is 15 weeks into flower, and this strain (the weak, but pleasant indica-type bagseed) was equally slow under a 400 hps (sigh). Except after 15 weeks of hps heat, the plants were cooked, and seemingly "worn out" from all the transpiration. You can imagine what the soil was like after that time, too. So I never could get anything goin' that was visible to the nekkid eye under HPS. I know it doesn't look like much compared to all the pedigreed genetics out there, but this really proves leds for me. Couldn't do this with hps, at least not in this heat. (Turned the leds off and hung a cfl droplight overhead for the photo.)

Very sparkly! Quite aromatic, and just touching the stem turns one into an instant gecko.

Okay, but you coulda moved P - KR4 instead, and threatened my rook. P - KKn3 next move reestablishes your chain. Not sure why P - KR3's better.Quote:

Why, P - KR3 of course
Yep. Clones rooted in Rapid Rooters > 20oz beer cups > 1gal > 3gal > 5gal nursery pots. (Would have preferred to keep it down to 3gals, tho') Lotsa good roots. Shoot, brah. That's not the top. Thassa little side budlet a foot down the plant. Just saw it sparkling in the light so I snapped a pic. (I didn't think I'd ever see anything frosty from this stuff.) The top cola's are decent (there's a bunch of 'em) just not very pretty. These genetics are muttly, though; the bag this came from took me 2 whole joints to get medicated, but the effect (though mild) was nice (except for wear and tear on my lungs ). I'm sure it was harvested after a "normal" flowering time and thus was immature and leafy. I guess what I'm trying to say is: unimpressive as this stuff would seem to anybody with quality genetics, I'm pleased to have gotten it to this point. (Long maturation period notwithstanding.) However, all suggestions for improving things further are appreciated. :thumbsup:Quote:
Are you starting them in small containers and then transplanting as they grow?
Also, (excuses, excuses :D) until just recently I had only a Procyon and my 6+2 covering 5 x 2 ft. That's not as much light as I'd have liked. :sadcrying But I wanted to do an "all led" run for the team! (That plant Oldmac asked about was part of that group.)
:smokin:"Okay, but you coulda moved P - KR4 instead, and threatened my rook. P - KKn3 next move reestablishes your chain. Not sure why P - KR3's better. "
Because, KR4 would risk letting your passed pawn, (KB4) through,
Right now it is a bigger threat than your rooks.
If you liked that, the next move will loosen your socks.:)

Gives me a place to run, and advances my pawn a square.
Question: If you were to advance your pawn to KKn4, is this where capture en passant is valid? (I'd move to my KKn6, as if you'd only moved 1 square (?))
