of Kushettes kid.....whenever you get the chance give us some pics ......toss them in this thread and brighten things up. ;)
Actually I have 2 Strawberry Cough in DWC hydro, 2 GDP (Grand Daddy Purple) in hydro, and 7 12 inch GDPs in hempy buckets as I'm working 5-1/2 to 6 days a week. Years ago I had a drip system watering hempies before they were called hempy buckets. Now I water them manually every 2 days and they are growing like weeds (imagine that!)...
Yeah, I know you are kidding Hound. Just saying hello as I watch a movie and check out your thread and Rock's and a few others. At any rate Hempy is in addition to hydro, not in place of them.
Chop comes in 3 weeks or so, wish I had time for pics and a grow log but not likely for a while. Maybe I'll hijack your log with some GDP shots in a few weeks... :smokin:
Please do...would love to see some pics.
Thank you for finding that for me. I didn't read the whole thing yet, but in that thread is link to another one by stinky. She gives a few reasons for transplanting, much of which doesn't apply to me at this point. The thing that makes the most sense to me is this:Quote:

But I'm still not sure I even understand that. I guess the plant shifts more energy into foliage, since it realizes that more root production would be useless (pretty smart of it IMO)? Or perhaps when space in the container gets tight, it's just easier to make foliage than roots. Am I anywhere close?
I hope you don't mind, I'm just kinda spewing. Don't mean to hijack your thread. I am very pleased to hear that your new project is doing better. The way you're describing things makes me really want to follow along. It's almost like I'm on the edge of my seat, reading a good mystery novel or something. Will they survive? If so, how? Who killed the 2 departed ones, and what was the motive? What are they're day to day lives like? Where do they live? Any love interests or arranged marriages in the possible future for the young girls? I am thrilled to hear that we will soon be seeing pictures of the protagonists. And did I mention that I'm very happy that they're doing better?
Hey I grow AK too, and I've never really noticed much of a scent on them until well into budding. It just goes to show that thing I saw on Discovery channel was right. It said men and women are different, and each sex does some things better than the other (what? really?). One thing women do much better is smell, and I don't mean the scent coming off of them. In general, women have a much better sense of smell. If it helps at all guys, we have a better sense of spacial relationships.Quote:

3) How long did you soak it for, and how, paper towel method? and in what water? ie. does PH matter, B1, moose droppings or anything?
4) Should it just be soaked at room temperature?
5) Have you ever tried not screwing with it? I've had the best luck with seeds simply planting them in dirt and keeping them warm and moist (like 78F).
6) If you've only got one seed that you suspect may be a problem, exactly what steps would you take to ensure it has the absolute best chance at survival? I'm guessing just planting it in dirt probably doesn't rank high on your list of options. So I should scuff it, soak it until it cracks, then what? Then put it in dirt, flood it with PH 6.8 water with a little B1, keep it warm and moist and wait? Or is a 50/50 mix of perlite/vermiculite more safe? Rapid Rooters? Please don't say peat or rockwool.
Again sorry, feel free to answer some, all, or none. I've never messed with my seeds much, and want you to take the time to share your knowledge and experience, instead of me taking the time to search and read, just like a noob. No offense, anyone.
I wanna know more about the seed thing too, it's been about 12 years since I have popped any beans. I plan to put some 150 grit in a matchbox and shake the beans lightly then........ uh...... figure out the rest based upon what I read here.
Hey Opie, hope you are still enjoying the avatar. It still cracks me up so it is staying for a while longer.
Well, 620am here gotta run to work..... :wtf:
MVP
Opie ordinarily I stick them in the top of the RR hole (already made) and use my well water (ph in the sixes) and they just pop and grow. With the bad seeds my scenario went like this:
plant ASH and Church seed in RR's....add water.
4 days later ASH is up, tap root through bottom.....ready to plant. Plant ASH. Wait longer for church seed.....zero.
After a week I crack rr open....seed bounces around on the floor because it's hard as a rock.
Put seed BACK in rr.....plant SECOND SEED (snl x nh)
3 days later.....SNL x NH has cracked and begun to show. Nothing from seed one. Still closed. Plant SNL x NH.
Wait several more days....dump seed and start number 2.
Pretty much same scenario for seed number 2 (and i DO MEAN number 2....:wtf:) except now alongside it is a CC seed......5 days.....blah blah plant CC seed. Check church seed... WET...but won't crack. Wait several more days....nothing.
Try to "gently" crack seed and end up MASHING it ......put it back for a few days but it's basically stepped on.
SEED NUMBER 3........take nail file and gently scrape the outside of the seed.....I liked Opie's "taking the shine off" example....that's about right. My understanding is you want to "thin" the shell so the water gets in and the seed pops. It didn't take much scraping on my part and then I could actually see a bit of "white" showing through and I stopped there. Place seed in RR and wait.
3-4 days....check seed carefully...all wet and swollen but shell hasn't quite cracked (but is so soft it's flexible). Put seed back.
More days pass.....take seed out....exactly the same.......pop one shell off (very easy...came right off without a prob) Put seed back.
Pray alot and do a rain dance around it.....counterclockwise (image reaper does this dance naked .....I dont :wtf:)
Wait three more days....crack RR....very small taproot starting....the only change in three days.
Wait three more days. Exactly the same.
Burn it.
MVP on reflection I think you're better off just takin your sandpaper and rubbing the seed gently and that should work for you.

I'm tryin to get into the screenwriting bussiness, and think you should take a stab at comedy...
I feel for you WH with the clones I'm new to the whole cloning thing and am tryin to keep over 40 GDP clones alive, for my 1st try with clones, but if all goes well in a month or so their should be room in the flowering room for the survivors... good luck
I'm rooting theese in oasis cubes and from what I here they are great for germin' beans...
And Weedhound thanks for the kind words...

i was wondering if you'd mind going into more depth regarding the pros and cons of hydroton vs hygromite. i know you use hygromite from some of your posts in others threads, just not clear on why.
anyway, toke amongst yourselves
bozo,
peace, love, dope
http://boards.cannabis.com/basic-gro...l-vs-pots.html
Bozo I actually talked about that on this thread but to PONTIFICATE FURTHER  I found that all in all the higromite had much less fert build up issues and the silica in it helped the plants grow better in general.
Edit: But without a doubt the biggest thing that I hated about hydroton were the terrible ph issues and ALL the pretreatment it required (and even THEN there were ph issues....:wtf:)
Hey kids, here are the GDP twins at ~ 35 days into flower.
Here are the Hempy clones of the GDP from ^^^
Here are the Kushman's Strawberry Cough twins at ~ 33 days into flower.
Thanks Hound, for the airtime to show off the madness happening at the house while I work 12 hours a day :wtf:
MVP
You and Treetops with the Folger's containers!! Hey what's the temperature in your area these days MVP?
It has been in the high 60's to the low-mid 80's lately. The growroom has see a high of about 87 F but only once or twice since March. How about you? How are things in your neck of the woods?
Are you kidding.....always LOVE to see your stuff. Hope works not killin' ya. 87 you bastard.....101 here today....IN THE SHADE.
Those strawberry twins are gorgeous as well......
What's the background on your "cough" strain...do you know?
wow, hi quality hijak:cool:
nice work MVP:thumbsup:
those folgers cans kick azz:pimp:
Sick cola man speaks.....:D
GDP and Folgers....fuckin awesome, lol...nice hijack, gorgeous ladies....

It does make you wonder if Folger's has something over on other coffees.....:D
TONS to report today folks.....W/f users....go check out my thread in hydroponics about creating a recirculating system with your waterfarm. My hydro man showed me the kit yesterday and I've already set up up and love it (I'm not using 8 buckets though so it didn't take me long to set up.)
http://boards.cannabis.com/hydroponi...ng-system.html
THOSE are STUNNING. I have a few of those seeds....I may not wait to plant them outdoors since they look so delicious inside your house. I may well just have to plant a few and grow them in soil inside until I'm sure I have a female.Quote:

I've also got some gdp's going just had to take out 3 hermies yesterday, heat stress i think... it was 105 degrees yesterday... got an a/c but my vent has been an issue, hoping to get enough cash to buy some better inline fans...
Weedhound I too have been wanting to try hygromite as opposed to the hydroton I've been working with but when I went to my fav hydro shop the owner said that she had spoke with one of the sales reps and said something about the hygromite having asbestos in it and thats why they wern't carrying it. I don't know the truth about it, but it's got me thinkin if there was asbestos in there they shouldn't be able to sell it...
later D:S5:
My mistake......I was thinking Daddy's Girl and had my letters mixed up backward.
d4.....I'll ask my hydro guy about that but I'm really having trouble thinking there is asbestos in the stuff....I'm sure it's like you said that they wouldn't be able to sell it but I'll certainly doublecheck. ;)
GDP.....is that Grandaddy Purple people? :D
So yesterday was a "blow-out" day in terms of the cool stuff we learned about plants and growing and cannabis.
First...we bought a gram of bubble hash ($30) at dispensary we visited. IS IT JUST ME OR HAS HASH ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS?
Fucking ASS-KICKING!!
Is the bubble hash the purest type? Because that stuff REALLY rocked my world and just plain pretty much knocked out Mr Hound! Here was us yesterday >>> :stoned::stoned:
Second: The PP improved a good amount and then started to sink again so we decided to get out the really big guns (ummm...actually syringes. :D). It occured to me (FINALLY...:wtf:) to take a big old syringe (in this case a turkey basting syringe) and flush sections of the medium out under pressure so that's what we did.......About a gallon of warm H202'd
water bit by bit and after that another flush. (Edit: We would NOT have been able to do this at ALL if we were still working with the w/f buckets instead of net pots.)
HUGE DIFFERENCE!! We even got out some grit that had obviously been trapped in the medium since day 1.....small sand particles that should have washed out the first week. I really feel we have made a major breakthrough here because we can no longer find ANY areas that don't drain well in the net pot and the plant took even a LARGER jump than it did before. She's really starting to take off at this point!!
So Opie had been asking about the grandkids....:D
The three on the left are Power Plant clones taken yesterday (in case anyone thought the PP wasn't much bushier.....here's why ;)) So far so good with them.....having been an entire 20 hours or something.
Four on the right....This is a very special strain of Ak47 I discover called Fort Knox AK. So far we've lost four.....how? I'm honestly not sure but I AM sure they died. Just wilted up a bit more each day. :( Pray for the remaining gene pool please.
said the blind man to the deaf mute, lolQuote:

The hydro plant is of course larger and bushier than the soil but I think they were also turned about a week apart as well (hydro first.) We're going to take the hydro plant out today and do the same thing with the syringe/flushing that we did to the power plant but minus the hydrogen peroxide since we just bought some new Cannazym and tossed a bunch in.
Speaking of....after talking to our hydro guy we're more convinced than ever that our Cannazym just got too old and that is the ROOT of our PROBLEM!!!! :S2:
Two shows a day until Sunday.....:D :wtf:
bozo lots of people use hydroton and are quite happy with it so don't base this one experience on it......it DOES have its advantages so once the ph issues stop you may find you like it fine.

what kind of water do U use. and whats the ph of the water just by its self.
Hey hydro, thanks for stopping by.
Well I use RO water but I never check the ph until right before I use things so I couldn't say.....I only check and adjust it very last before I use it.
What strain are you growing?
They cloned very easily so starting in soil or hempy (75% perlite, 25% vermiculite) would make sense. Hempy is great since it is a neutral medium - basically hydro with no moving parts. Biggest piece of work is watering every other day... :DQuote:

Pros?
Cons?
Do tell please. :)
The background is limited to the fact that I picked them up as clones from a co-op in Van Nuys. They are rumored to be a 3/4 sativa 1/4 indica renowned for very nice anti-anxiety properties.Quote:

Also with hempy it is a shorter height setup so I can grow easier in confined spaces. Last but not least it is simple for my GF to care for these girls when I don't have the time. She is slowly being trained into hydro, but has never grown before so we are taking it in small steps.
Technically it is a hydroponic setup - no soil, neutral medium - so it is easy to flush and recover from nute problems.
Overall it produces similar results to DWC or drip/WF types, but a bit smaller on yield. The downside is that I have to mix and manually water 3x week, and nute consumption is pretty heavy. But for the time being I think it suits me fine as a complement (not replacement!) for the hydro.
P.S. Just picked up a kickass Lumitec 600W digital ballast, Eye Hort HPS bulb and top of the line Daystar air cooled hood... When GDP is done in June I have an upgrade planned for the grow closet!
Dude that light sounds KILLER! Hortilux eye is supposed to be the best....that's what I use. And I LOVE my digital ballast.....I'll never go back to the standard ones again.
Thanks for the hempy info. I really want to get into these and explore them further so glad you know about them. :) Hey, can you transplant those things? Doesn't all the perlite break apart if you try it?
Here's a couple of pics of Fang yesterday.
fang is lookin GOOD WH....:thumbsup::jointsmile:
