I had a friend in college who was always trying to set up threesomes and bring another girl into her relationship with guys. Some guys welcomed it. In the case of Candace, my college friend, it turned out that the truth was she was more lesbian than bi and really much more interested in the girls. On some level she was pulling them into her relationships with her guys for precisely that purpose, to shake things loose and run the guys off. So it was intentional destabilization. But I think even when it's not intentional, that can happen, too.
