Villeneuve: New BMW Sauber feels fast.

1997 F1 world champion, Jacques Villeneuve has given the new BMW Sauber F1.06 a ringing endorsement following his first run in car Thursday at Valencia in Spain.

Although the F1.06 was launched Tuesday, Villeneuve's team-mate, Nick Heidfeld did the initial work with the car, before the Canadian finally got his chance today.
"The BMW Sauber F1.06 felt really good," said JV after completing around 300 kilometres in the car - 76 laps - his best time a 1m 12.472s.
"After the first day in a new car you can tell if it will be competitive or not; this one felt fast and I think there is more potential in it than in the C24 last year. That's very positive. Overall, I think these three days went well. Normally with a new car you expect quite a few problems, but this test went pretty well, so I'm happy."
BMW Sauber chassis technical director, Willy Rampf was also upbeat following the initial three-day run with the F1.06.
"After a total of 692 kilometres with the BMW Sauber F1.06 in three days we are happy with the results we achieved," he continued. "The main focus during the roll-out was to check functionality and to concentrate on reliability issues. On the whole, we experienced very few minor technical problems, and this allows us for the forthcoming track tests to focus mainly on set-up work, the introduction of test components and the continuation of the Michelin tyre development programme."
Nick Heidfeld meanwhile was also in action Thursday, however he was running in the interim Sauber C24, like JV used on Tuesday and Wednesday. The German completed 117 laps, his best time a 1m 12.293s, while running a Michelin tyre programme.
The BMW Sauber team now heads to Barcelona, where they will run for four-days, beginning next week, on Monday January 23.
