Yo,
Its post #531, this should be the link http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-log/...ml#post1819190

I have followed LEDS for a while now. If only the light intensity were equal to that of an HID. It will be someday though. LEDS are the future of indoor growing. HID bulbs are too inefficient for future use with electricity being so expensive and they have many downfalls.
If I had my way it would be a magnetic generator and a whole lot of LEDS. Free energy coupled with intelligent growing. I like it.
This post is golden. I can't tell you how much free information I have used on the internet but this is something special. Keep it going man, whatever it takes. 1800 bucks is pocket money in the fact that LEDS last 10+ years under warranty, put out little heat, save thousands in electricity over the years, and leave less of a foot print on the earth. whats better then that?
Another thought that suddenly occurs to me, which could go either here or in the LED Theory thread, (please feel free to delete or move if required) is that these Procyon lights could work very well with a small solar power/battery setup. Could help with detection issues where such a thing is a problem. Of course that won't be cheap, but neither are the lights..
The 14w Procyons might be more to my liking, since I'm thinking long and narrow grow area. Maybe mixed with some CFLs, if some can be found that adequately cover the parts of the spectrum not covered by the LEDs. I think of it sort of like (if you thought about it from the perspective of the plants) the LEDs are the regular diet, and the CFLs are like nutritional supplements. But I'm still very curious as to how this all-LED grow will come out. I've passed the info on to the other two people I trust, (and who have an interest in this sort of thing) so you have three of us on the edges of our seats waiting for this one.
Pass or fail, you still deserve a lot of credit for trying this with that sort of cash outlay. I completely understand the "I can't rest until I know if it works" mentality. You'll see a lot of that if I ever post (in another thread, obviously) about any of the projects I have burning holes in my brain.. like my car plans. I'll raise a bowl in your honor at the end of this dry spell.
I think a residential solar panel will be enough for 3 of those. not sure of the cost vs. benefit though. Have you seen the magnetic drivers out there. A European company sells one that is 300KW per hour. They even have a 100kw per hour one that fits into a car with a belt. you come home and plug it into your house and it powers it. Free energy. How much is the cheapest solar panel that produces enough to power to handle 1800 watts?
I'd run with this tangent, but I want to try to limit my off-topic responses in their grow log. Maybe in the LED Theory thread, or a new thread about the possibility of alternative energy sources being more appealing with the rise of LED grow lights? I'm still new here, and I'm loathe to make new threads on any board, so I'll follow someone else's lead on this.
Hey, I've been lurking this thread for awhile, and just wanted to say nice job. Your plants look really nice for 20 days into flower. I've been thinking about investing in a few, but am waiting on your results ;] I have some widow about 14 days into flower under a 600 watt HPS, and I don't think they're gonna look as nice as yours by day 20. Especially with the trich formation. I'm a newb, though, so it could very likely just be me.
Also, I saw you said Opie had info on how to build an LED grow light? You mind telling me how to private message on this site? Thanks man, and keep it up
Hi all,
welcome blu, evil, and jefferson
yeah weve discussed solar panels and probably will get something in the future but, as blu so eloquently(wow, spelled that right myself lol) pointed out it should be in another thread:thumbsup:
evil, our feeding schedule has been pretty aggressive also, which is helping. we want to see what they can handle. the comment about opie was in reference to the led theory thread which is listed in our signature. there are many many discussions on ratios and construction. Im not saying hell tell you how to build one, if want real techie info and can not speak of our fav plant then see greenpinelane.com for construction advise.
and DLONES, I would love to show the world and the attention weve gotten here has helped us get noticed by HT. I just want true potheads to be able to grow their own stuff without fears of raids and plant burning and anything else that comes with putting a street light in your house. wouldnt that be great?
Just wanted to make one statement about possible harvest size. The only issue remaining that could affect this is the temps. NO the procyons are not putting off enough heat to affect the room. literally the temp leaving the closet is the same as in the adjoining room. However, weird cold fronts and an old ac unit has meant that they are not getting the proper temp drops at night that they would like. I am trying to get a small in room ac to cover this but that may not happen until the IRS gives me my $600 in may (thanks uncle sam:thumbsup:). so its my thought that if we get remotely close to HID results this time(fingers crossed) then we should blow em out next time.
thanks again
