that's a nice setup...
Markass- Thank you. It is a constant evolution.
Demeter- Yikes, keep checking for nanners- do you trust the timer or have you replaced it?
I still have those snowdrops that I have to divide pretty soon... down for a little gardening within the next couple weekends? :D
for sure, once you nail it though, it's worth all the work!!!:greenthumb:Quote:

What size fan are you considering for your ducting? I have much the same size space to vent and also have to get rid of some heat.
:rastasmoke:
lol nail what, evolution? Doubt it. I just learned to use simple tools last year, and I've almost mastered the art of walking on 2 legs.Quote:

I have actually found some seeds in the cured blue haze bud, but only a few here and there, and I never even saw nanners then:wtf: so I am a bit worried about the girls in the flower room now since they had two days of spastic disruption. I think the timer is working now, it just comes on later than before, but with the same 12 hours. so hopefully the damage is slight.
How I wish I lived on several acres - I would have my own little plot of heaven under the sun!
Hope to see you soon!
HEY, how about some nug shots?
lol nug shots.... like that camera would show anything... I could go out and make a little ball of lawn clippings and take a pic, post it under 'pictures', and all the 13 year old kids would be like, MAAAAAAAN that's some dank dro!
oh yeah i forgot!!
Whats going on with that coco thingy pump or no pump?
dusto2k3 Gallery - Cannabis Photo Gallery at what i found that other day in the woods!!
Nice. Very nice.
No pump yet. But it's going to happen I think. I just got back from almost a week with the Yeag to find some pretty unhappy looking plants, including one dead. As much as my neighbor is such a sweetie for looking after my girlies, we all know how tough it can be for a novice to judge when a plant has been watered properly.
On the up side, the not-very-well-rooted 1 week clones that I had to leave did okay! I lost a few but turning off the heat mat, a good mist with wiltpruf, and sticking the whole flat UNDER my drain table seems to have done the trick.
dam, that blows, oh well, luckily there are more to go around eh. So did they just neglect watering? I've personally found it really hard to kill my babies by not watering, but if they are young its a lot easier.
Oh oh oh, and i just took some clones of some p91 that a friend gave me two beans of!!! cant wait to see what i have
ever use rapid rooter that have completley dried and resoaked them?
Naw he watered, but missed a couple pots on the 3" pot table. One died. Not a big loss really.
Yeah I have but I'm not sure if it's a great idea, and I would NEVER use them for cuttings, only seeds, because I don't know what sort of condition they'd be in. Mold and all.
oh well, just did it like 5 mins ago out of necessity and what not, oh well, we'll see whats gonna happen if anything
Yo, what you best idea on how to get these thrips out of my garden. I'm pissed. These fuckers....is there something i can add in to my rez to get them out of my coco. They live there right, so a foliar spray or fog wouldn't take care of those. How are your plants doing in the coco. I have seen unprecedentedgrowth in my plants. For example, my stalks used to be like sharpie marker thickness or slightly thicker when they were finished, and now they are already magic marker thickness. Think that that will flow thru to bud size? One thing i miss tho is being able to give personal attention to each plant cuz they are locked in due to the drip tubing. I have those rings around them.
Whats goin' w/you?
nice set up foxy.top thread to.the postman.
As for my coco endeavours.. lol... this is what I'm finding:
-Vegging is fucking AMAZING. They grow like wildfire.
-Calcium problems are rampant. Apparently there is actually a chemical interaction between the coco and Calcium, and I am going to try pre-conditioning my medium in the future by soaking it in a solution of water, bone meal, and Soil Syrup (organic acid) to try and get all the binding sites on the coco pre-saturated with Calcium.
-I am returning to a compost mix for flowering to avoid nute problems. The one I'm thinking of still inclueds 1/3 coco, but also 1/3 compost and 1/3 perlite. I expect that it will help immensely, and I will be able now to use the organic soil amendments that I have been happy with all along.
Okay, I had a chat re: thrips with my local fertilizer expert...
The consensus is that thrips are evil.
Their life cycles in 4-5 days.
When you fog, you have to repeat the fog in 3-4 days to be assured of a complete kill because there is little penetration of the media.
This is how the little fuckheads operate:
Adult lays eggs in the meristem of the plant
Eggs hatch
LArvae emerge- it is this life stage that is most damaging, as I'm sure you have noticed!!! - and proceed to eat everything in sight
Larvae tend to hang out on the undersides of the leaves, making them harder to kill.
When they are all full and ready to pupate, they drop off the leaves and onto the soil surface, then burrow down a bit, pupate, and emerge as adults to breed and repeat the cycle over again.
Temps in the high 80s make the cycle 4 days... other wise it is a little longer.
We talked about a way to interrupt it. One thing he said is to protect the soil surface so that the larvae never reach the soil, and die without pupating. You have I'm sure seen the hydro grows- particularly waterfarm stylee- where the grower will put a slit styrofoam party plate around the stem to keep humidity confined? Same thing works to keep thrip larvae from ever finding your soil.
Foxy - HEy girl, when i went to the hydro shop near me, i was gonna buy a non-canna coco block. The guy there recommended that i use the Canna Buffer. It's to pre buffer the medium and resoplve the calcium issues. I hear you cannot let it dry out inbetween watering, you you will have Ca issues.
Stinky, ahhh, jus twhat i'm looking to hear from ya. Ima go and do the raid bomb at HD, the blue and yellow ones. and do 3 bombs4 days apart. Hey, its saye to used during week 3-4 correct?
Thanks for you info :)
I just bought that bomb last night but silly girl that I am forgot to set it off this morning, because I was so excited about finally catching the damn mouse that has been terrorizing my kitchen every night. lol. Cute little fucker... dead now.
I checked the label again and it's permethrin.
I'm going to look it up, but I'm bombing tonight and a couple plants are only a few days from harvest, so if you don't hear from me, I'm dead. lol.
That's really interesting about the drying out bit. I don't see how that would make a difference unless the chemistry is dependent upon a reaction IN an aqueous solution. Hm... Very interesting. Either way, I only see this shit in the flower room where temps are higher than fuck. I think I am FINALLY going to have to break down and buy an air-cooled hood. Oh, hell. That means poking holes in the wall to my crawlspace too. Can I tell you how excited I ain't about that?
You can do something decorative to hide the hole??? Lucky you are capable eh.
Just stay by that vent hole you are punching when you bomb if ya need that fresh air!!
Let me know what you find about that chem.
Lol, there was a mouse in my kitchen too, but i waited up one night with my pellet gun and took that little fucker out!
Oh you did NOT.. hahaha you KNOW I don't know how to use power tools so I was going to get drunk, call my ex, pick a fight, and then just punch the holes with my fist. :DQuote:

Oh yeah I forget that you are like crazy sharpshooter guy! lol I used to shoot competitively but no longer keep weapons in the house. When my friend in VT finally agrees to teach me to rabbit hunt, things will be different. mmmmm bunnies are delicious... :DQuote:

Lol, i learned one day that the walls have studs behind them!! (broken hand)
You have to go around your house with a studsensor and mark that shit beforehand if you are prone to wall-punching fits of rage... lol
Rabbit braised in red wine with celery, carrots, and caramelized onions, with a big glop of creamy garlic polenta underneath to catch all that juice... OH. MY GOD. It's like an orgasm for your mouth.
my god That sound delicious:stoned:(not the orgasm in the mouth part)the rabbit.I wanna eat a rabbit now.:stoned:Quote:

Yeaaahhhh... it dropped down below freezing at my house last night... What The Fuck. It is fucking MAY. The MIDDLE of fucking May. I woke up to find the house at 50 degrees and my dog huddled up shivering on the sofa. Plants don't seem to mind though.
Anyway a lot has changed in my garden since my last post. Acutally, my life has been in a state of flux in general... Between a death in the family, my relationship going through a really intense growth spurt, and my friends acting even more self-destructive than normal (that's saying a LOT)... all I feel like doing is sitting in the flower room, the only warm spot in my house atm, and just watching the plants grow.
There's someone who deserves a HUGE thank you- you know who you are- the only person I can talk to candidly atm who can dish out sane advice on life as well as gardening, even after like 3 pots of coffee so strong it would send most people into freaking orbit. And who, in the last 3 days, has not only been the ear that I needed, but also booted my ass into gear and resolved the worst remaining problem with my garden. Mad props to you.
Anyway I am the proud owner of my very first ever air cooled reflector!!! Even hooked up kind of half-assed because I haven't cut holes in the walls yet, the max temps have already dropped 15 degrees, right down into the sweet spot of 78. Just a little more tweaking and I'll make it permanent.
I took down an Af x BOG, shown. Nice color, but not as purple as it had been before I went away and returned to find max temps while I was gone were over 100 degrees. Now it's just sort of silvery but holy hell are those buds DENSE, like rocks.
Teh plant shown on my kitchen island is an unknown BOG that is a retired mother and went into flower last night. I replaced her with a cut and expect to get a good yield off her.
I took 15 clones last night as well, 5 each of the following : Toxic Lemon, Yeags MTF, and a BOG. They look fine so far. I cut up my prop trays so they would fit into the dishwasher between uses, lol... I'm sick of bleaching everything!
All right, now for the big one:
I'm back to compost for flowering. AAAGH! say the coco- nuts. Don't get me wrong, I still like the stuff but the amount of abuse my plants take in flower, I really need the security of a humus-based mix. I'm running between 1/3 humus and cow manure, 1/3 coco, and 1/3 perlite, and 1/2 humus and manure, and the rest a mix of the lighteners. Not very precise but that's the beauty of the humus, you don't have to be. It's tough to fuck up.
In my little veg closet, I am still using coco. The growth rates are GREAT, it's clean, and in small pots they can be removed and stuck in the shower for a weekly flush and de-thripping, which they really seem to enjoy.
Oh, and I bombed the veg room with permethrin yesterday. Yay, nothing like chemical warfare against a 6 legged enemy.
The pics are fairly obvious as to what they are.
Hope you like my color-coordinated Japanese maple and Queen of Night tulips! :D
Wow, Foxy. Lots going on over there. I think everyone must be getting mighty busy in their lives cuz these boards have been at a snail's speed crawl for sometime now. I'm very sorry to hear about the family death. :( Hope all is well with you.
That new hood looks w00t! :) As do your clones and your little BOG harvest there. That looks sweet. Let us know how she tastes.
What gets me more is that Japanese maple! Nice tree there! Looks so much like Cannabis, it's freaky! LOL. I'd otherwise have to say NICE STALK on that MJ plant! LOL
So any updated pictures of your flower room?
The Fog :rastasmoke:
exellent nuggets foxysox. that strain looks real intresting .sorry to hear of your troubles things get better pal dont let them get you down:thumbsup:best of luck and nice reflector.
stinky you make me blush:rolleyes:
Thanks postman, that's the cross I made that got the nice purple color under the sugar leaves. Shov is running it too. Smells lovely.
Get your paws on any castor canadensis lately? :D
castor canadensis:D i had to search that raflmao. im thinking castor canadensis not heard of that strain lol your aff yer nut as wee would say here in bonnie scotland.nice one stinky and well done on that cross it looks awesome.the postman.
:D aff yer nut fa sure. I couldn't ae said it better meself.
heeheehee love it lol.
Hi sweetie- wow, you are a grownup grower now, with that fine hood! Very impressive, as is that branch of bud- delish. I also love your aesthetic as shown by the tulips and Japanese maple. You have a grower's heart and a designer's eye!
This weather better not mess up my tomato and pepper plants:wtf:
I know you are going through a tumultuous time right now, so whenever you need to run away, just give me a call, come on down and hang out - the hot tub is always on!
Hey girl, I was replying to your thread as you were posting on mine!
Thank you re: my garden. That is my pride and joy. The front of my house faces east, and there is a large cliff directly across the street, so it gets only a couple hours of morning sun. The idea of that garden is a combination of shade-loving and native plants. I have a wonderful fern collection... they are HARD to dig up, lol, and when I go hunting I have to take a hatchet to break off a chunk! I bring back a bucket of the substrate as well and plant them with their 'feet' underneath the front porch to keep cool.
There are also some other really neat forest plants in that garden- trillium, jack in the pulpit, yellow spotted fawn lily, and then the more mundane astilbe and tradescantia. The tulips are just there for color until the ferns come up.
Speaking of messing up plants, Yeag called the other day about his own veggies- with all the rain everyone has been getting, the only things that seem happy are the tomatoes and tomatillos; most of the peppers did NOT take well to the run of wet weather the Midwest has been having.
lol Ima go check your thread now
heehee this is funny, like hide n seek! Demeter and Stinky are chasing each other around the board!Quote:

Talk to ya in a bit!
well foxy has the temp sorted now with the aircooled hood?:Dyou wouldnt happen to have any BOG genetics(seeds) lying around you wanna trade:jointsmile:iI wouldnt mind havin some of those genes in my garden.davey the postman.
Hello it's been a while then...
Postman, I'll be playing with some crosses and backcrosses over the next few months so expect great things! :D
The temps are beautiful. The flowering girls potted up with compost again are basking in the light- I added another 400w of HPS now that the temps are under control. Everyone is loooking good.
I started some skunk #1 and Northern Lights recently as well. And something else... although I will have to go have a look... oh yes, I remember what it was, it was a cross I made a year ago that the most recent generation had a pheno that stank almost like kerosene, and I am growing out a bunch of seeds from that particular female.
Why skunk and NL? Couple reasons... I need a good male, basically. My recent genetics acquisitions, the Kush, Afghani, and PPP are all in female clone format and I feel that having a couple males of VERY well stabilized strains is vital. To this end I also popped some more seeds from the Yeags Alaskan stock in hopes of a good male, as that strain is nice and predictably hardy.
I'm still having a hell of a time with the clones, since my mother plants are still stressed from my coco fibre misadventures... I'm not on top of things enough to give coco the attention to detail that it demands to really produce, and my pH was consistently FAR too high for that medium. Back in compost I'm free to water happily with unadjusted tap water, lol.
After a permethrin bomb and a few good spritzes of rotenone, I haven't seen a thrip in my veg closet in a couple weeks. Rotenone isn't the best stuff to be around, particularly if you are a thrip, but for humans either, so I basically sprayed, ran, and shut the damned door behind me, lol.
The five local cuts that I was gifted recently, the afghan and kush, are potted up in compost and growing very well- thanks man. They are still too small to really show their true structure but I will post pics soon to see if one of the old-timers around the boards can distinguish which is the Kush. Only one came with a label.
Well I guess that's the update for now. Seeya next time...
Okay here's some pictures.
The coco experiment is officially OVER. Too much bother. Everyone got repotted last night back into compost.
Here's a couple of the veg closet... got some nice clones in there and a really high-end and VERY expensive odor control system.
The plants on the top shelf are showing the lingering symptoms of neglect+coco, not a good combination. Basically my pH was way too high and micros were all locked out.
There's some from-seed plants too- a couple Skunk#1, a couple of my own cross derived from a similar line as the ones Shovelhandle has, but using a different mother who had even MORE purple in her but also came originally from a BOG medley, that's the one in the solo shot with the BIZARRE way it holds its fingers all together like that... very sturdy little plant though. And there's a SAGE X in there too.
