Why God does not exist, in one sentence.
Those who insist that there is absolutely no possibility of there being a god or any supernatural entity are, to me, guilty of the same kind of conceit as those who claim that a male God created the universe in six days and rested on the seventh: we barely understand our own planet, so who are any of us to say with 100% surety what is or isn't true in the universe? Nevertheless, though I identify as an agnostic, I'd tend towards atheism if pushed (though I'd bet that has a lot to do with growing up UU in Texas).
Here's what matters: I would never want to worship a god who would send a bad believer to heaven over a good skeptic (which is the evangelical party line). When you get right down to it, most religions have at their basis the philosophy of being kind to others and thankful for what's good in life. Why doesn't God exist? Because he doesn't need to. We could do just fine on our own, if we didn't create a need for him.

What makes you more righteous than God? Who is good? You're the one who knows who is good and who is evil right? If you created the heaven and the earth, we would follow your rules. I'm sure some will bow and worship him unwillingly, cause every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is LORD. To his face!!!

Hey, how long would it take to even come face to face with every person in the world? Forget that, how long would it take to even see every person in the world, even from a distance? I hope he doesn't get bored for a few hundred years, hearing the same thing over and over. He'd probably try to speed up the process "yadda yadda yadda, I KNOW. I am Lord, heard that one ohhhhhh.... 2.5 Billion times"

God does not exist because if he did, Christians would not make up stupid ass excuses such as "Remember, God (or by whatever name you call the force/energy responsible for all of creation*) is beyond comprehension by our relatively small and puny intellects"...
That sentence is incompatible with logic and science.

I think "god" is a primitive concept invented by primitive people to make thunder, life, oceans and panda bears explainable with an invisible giant in the sky, a diety. We need to stop studying god, and start studying reality. I think it's even arguable that the very fabric and nature of reality, the energetic potential, is the same thing as god. All existence is god, consciousness is the conscious god. But the very word, GOD, was originally designed to referrence primitive notions of egotistical dieties, and I think it's time we move past that.

This is pretty accurate to my view of God as well. I always smile when people mention a 'supernatural' God. To me, nothing is more natural than God.

Remember, God (or by whatever name you call the force/energy responsible for all of creation) is beyond comprehension by our relatively small and puny intellects. In order to relate to such an incomprehensible/unimaginable energy we create personifications such as God(s), angels, ect. All these concepts, whether you realize it or not, are of one and the same.
By taking the personifications too far and personally we create human fallacies which are incompatible with logic and science.
Exactly. I would be interested to hear your version of what the truth might be, it sounds like it could be along the same lines as how I view things.

God does not exist because his 'rules' make many good people unhappy (depending on the religion: unallowing divorce, gay marriage, birth control, premarital sex, etc... not to mention persecuting people of other religions eg. pagans back in the day).
A lot of people have posted things similar to this. It just doesn't make sence because we can't talk
about God without talking about Satan.(I know some said something about him earlier) Imagine how much it pains
God that we do all these evil things. He wants to show us his love so bad,and he tries so hard but it's so hard
to show us things, outwardly on this earth, when this earth is also controled by Satan. They are both powerful forces. (but to think about how God
created Lucifer is a bit contradictory to this in my mind.)
to say that is to confuse GOD with MAN'S GOD. Mans God is
much different from the real God. God is not a he or a she, God is ideas and beliefs. God is a solid Faith.
a value for a life. A reason to live life, to have morals. God is individual to every person. People think
of God too narrowly. God can be so many things. God is in the molecules and proteins and amino blah blah. He is
omnicent.God is also one, a single thing, a single belief. A combining force that drives people together.
He is so many different things. That is the definition of omnicent.
Anyone ever seen Dogma? That Kevin Smith is a smart guy!

We are god.
Every Plant, bird, drop of water is God. The universe is all interconnected in some way or another. Nature works together to thrive, and so do the animals within this nature. My beleif is that all matter is god, and that god is the universe, and everything within it.
Makes the most sense out of any theory I've heard. It's almost as if we are the blood cells of god, just like when we look through a microscope, thats what we are to god. We Are God. In an infinite loop of organisms.

He could exist, I'm not a religious follower. Although, I do like the concept of going somewhere perfect after death. Perfect, not as in no flaws, perfect as in my own perfection. If there is nothing, well I'll never know any different. However this thought is a lot more daunting.

Why God does not exist, in one sentence.
The existence to believe in a god or gods, is a choice. It has nothing to do if It or They actually do exist.
I believe that what ever started existence, did so, and has been "hands off", since then. It explains away the thought of, "If God existed, there wouldn't be all this suffering."
God/the Gods created... nothing more, nothing less.
I came from my parents. They came from theirs, and they came from theirs, etc. This chain of creation cannot go back in time/evolution forever. There has to be a point, where you come to a being that is outside of time and space, and therefore, did not need to be created by anything. That being is God, or whatever term you want to use for It.
It cannot create a being or thing as perfect as itself, or it would just be creating a copy of itself. It had to create a universe with flaws, so that it could be differentiated from God, itself. That's why children sometimes get cancer, and assholes sometimes live long and fruitful lives. There is no such thing as a "miracle". A miracle would infer that God interfered, in some way, with the natural course of the existence it created, and would show favoritism, which in my opinion, showing favoritism is not a trait of a perfect being.
God gave Free Will to man, but I find that to be a very arrogant and short-sighted phrase. I believe God created Free Will for the Universe. It created a "thing", (the Universe), with a very special purpose. It created the Universe, to give birth to randomness. That's not to say there isn't order, though. But just like Good needs Evil, so that it can be defined, Order needs Randomness, to be able to be seen and defined.

In all seriousness, does anyone else notice that the sentence, "Any religion or philosophy that offers a final answer, MUST be wrong," is, in itself, a 'final answer' philosophy? It uses the word 'MUST', and therefore, contradicts itself. Just thought that was kinda funny.

One could look at that the other way as well, in that the majority of humans believe in some sort of higher power. As non-believers are in the minority it is they who must prove the majority wrong.
Of course, neither of them can prove or disprove anything

I disagree. "god" is testable. Pick a deity, define it, and put it in empirical trial. For instance, the Christian god clearly doesn't exist and same with Thor, Ra, and the thousands of Hindu gods. Of course, then, you might counter-argue in favor for an ambiguous, panatheistic, "everything is god" "the universe is god" perspective which commonly is attributed to Einstein's sense of the word. If so, then you really wouldn't be saying anything at all. Most people don't actually believe in god, they believe in believing in god, they only use the word as protective coloration, as Steven Weinberg was fond of saying.

i love all the nihilistic people, it really is sad that they're are some people who think they can try to put reason into something that is higher than reason. All there is to it is..............God is real............ thats it....it says that u cant put logic with it, because logic is a human characteristic.......if u can put anything in faith, this would be it, becuase there will never be any explanation for it.

Why does logic immediately equal nihilism? I know this probably won't change your mind about anything because, let's face it, these threads never do, but faith is just a human quality as logic. Here in America, faith is more present in humans than logic, anyways. God himself almost always has human characterstics, either in physicality, personality, and emotions. Satan too for that matter.
I think this whole religious debate stuff is actually an argument about logic vs. faith. I think even the most religious people have strong doubts about God. I know I did, even when I was religious. But if faith is seen as more important than logic, it doesn't seem to matter. Everything we know about God is just an idea...cause God certainly hasn't come down from the heavens and decreed anything yet. I'm waiting.

What I dont get is why sceptics always feel the need to argue with believers..if you dont believe then why do you have to get in the way of those with faith? Why are you even on the "SPIRITUALITY" section if you dont believe? It doesnt make sence, but one thing is for sure theres some self-ego stroking going on with the sceptics here, its pretty pathetic. If you want to learn truth, go for it, if you dont then your just part of another's test.
I have seen many sceptics turn into believers, I have never seen a believer turn into a sceptic. I believe it is the believers that have no proof that sceptics dont like..but to me they really are the same type of people.

I love arguing about spirituality, as long as it's a good hearted argument and not filled with insults and the like. The need exists because it opens up dialogue, and dialogue is generally a way of entertainment and enlightenment. No one ever requires you to reply if it against your wishes.

Many skeptics start out as believers, myself included. So if you're just commenting on what you'ev observed, that's fine, but if you're applying an observation to society as a whole, that's a different matter.
