I've enjoyed watching m8, it's helped me learn a few things and it's been quite funny comparing our "First Grow Syndrome" fears, like being too scared to chop anything off our ladies. :D I'm sure once you've got this one harvested, you will have a lot more confidence to try things out, I know I have. That said, attacking my girls with a pair of scissors to Fim them for my second grow was still a very nerve-racking experience.

If that low hanging fruit doesn't blow you away, don't panic! I took a smallish bud off one of my plants early and it wasn't anywhere near as good as the buds I harvested later, which got better and better the longer I cured them. Good weed definitely requires patience.

So I noticed I'll have a ton of popcorn size buds. How do I prevent this? Do people just chop all the lower branches and buds away early? Does that make all the other buds bigger?

I ended up with 12g's of popcorn buds on my 1st grow (dried weight). They were a really pleasant smoke, but removing them is supposed to concentrate the plants efforts on the larger buds.
After doing a bit of research I found that other people reduce popcorn in 2 ways. Either taking out the lower branches towards the end of the veg stage, or taking out the lower bud sites as they form. I decided to take out the lower branches on my current grow. I did it on the 1st day of 12/12, my girls didnt seem to mind.
Some people repot after take out the lower branches, and raise the soil/coco level to cover the trimmed area. I just raised my coco level by an inch (I planned for this when I potted the cuttings).
It will be interesting to hear what advice the more experienced growers on this forum say, I should have started a thread on this really, but with my new found confidence I decided to just go for it. :D

remember~its a weed!! they grow back..haha! but seriously taking the lower branches off does send the growing energy to the tops so don't be afraid to trim...and using something like bushmaster in the beginning doesn't let her stretch as much and make bigger fruit for you!

Can I request an out-of-room pictures of them? or with some other light than the HPS?
I wanna see what those look like under regular light before you chop em down!

Pretty nice harvest, Bub! :stoned:

Ahhh memories.... I used to have a pile of weed like that... until I set fire to it.
Nice bit of trimming work m8, that main cola looks phat. My main colas were 12 and 16g dried weight. I also found that the weed dried faster when I stripped some of the bark/skin off the stalks (just in case you are getting impatient).

Wow! those are some sick buds!

Congrats for your first harvest. Looks lovely
I wouldn't worry over the pop corn too much, as you get a handle on flowering nutrition the lower buds will fill out better and be well worth a moment's trimming.
