I don't have much of anything useful to add, but I've never found cigarettes to be addicting. I used to smoke a couple months back, I smoked Marlboro Reds because nothing else gave me a buzz.
See, I started smoking cannabis first. I like the taste of cannabis, it's always this sweet or minty flavor, ya know? It never leaves a nasty taste in my mouth unless I happen to cash the bowl and eat the ashes. So, when I started smoking cigarettes my first response was, "YECH!!" Cigarettes are one of the grossest things I've EVER tasted, and I've liver and onions before, ya know?
Anyway, I smoked a pack almost every couple of days and EVERY.SINGLE.DRAG would leave me with this, "Did I just put shit in my mouth?" look on my face. So, when I finally started wising up to how the cigarettes were fucking my lungs up, I quit. And it was so easy to quit for me. Maybe it is because I had no more access to cigarettes unless I had my own, so I could never smoke any. But, once I decided to quit, I quit. I've not smoked a single cigarette in about 4 months, and, for me, it isn't that big of a "Congratulations!" kind of thing. It was really easy.
Nicotine FOR ME was not addictive. But, I hate how my uncle has been smoking almost like effing Constantine, 30 ciggs a day since he was about 15, and he's 50 now. 1/2 of his heart pumps blood to his body as well as cement does, meaning, literally, one half of his heart does not pump at all. He's also had a pacemaker installed to make up for that one half, and all because of cigarettes. My mom is also addicted to them since the same age, and she's 45, and so is my brother, and every aunt and uncle that is still alive in my family (about....4).
I hate what the government and tobacco industries have transformed tobacco into. It's always been an addictive plant, yeah, but...pipe tobacco is less harsh and not as addictive, ya know? Cigarettes, to me, aren't tobacco. They're just some manufactured drug.
