another victory as Afghans head back to POLLS.
Funny how I heard none of this concern for the welfare of the Afghan people back when the US was funding a war that killed 3 million of them, left the taliban in power, and created al quaida. Oops, sorry, my bad, if we talk about that it could cost Reagan his spot on Mt. Rushmore.

Ok people. I??ve been reading through this thread and can??t believe how polarized everyone has become on this. Let??s have a bit of a reality check here:
-First of all, and most importantly, the fact that the people of Afghanistan are now enjoying more freedom, such as the freedom to vote, is a good thing
-The Taliban was a brutal and oppressive regime of fanatical Muslims. They we??re so overboard that even other predominantly Muslim countries tended to disassociate themselves with Afghanistan. The fact that they are no longer the leaders of Afghanistan is a good thing
-The Taliban did support and shelter Bin Laden and Al Queada. The fact that they can no longer do this is a good thing
-Bush did give the Taliban a choice. We were going after Bin Laden whether they liked it or not. If they opposed us we would go after them to. They chose incorrectly.
That being said?
-To act as if this is some kind of victory for Bush and his right wing cronies is absolutely ridiculous. This may be a victory for the people of Afghanistan but is simply a by-product of the fact that we went after Al Queada. GW didn??t give a rat??s ass about the people of Afghanistan.
-Bush did give the Taliban a choice. We were going after Bin Laden whether they liked it or not. If they said ??ok, come get the guys? the Taliban would still be in power and the people of Afghanistan would still be oppressed by them. GW didn??t give a rat??s ass about the people of Afghanistan.
-Although a great improvement over the Taliban the new government is still just a puppet of the U.S.. Bush and his right wing cronies should be taken out and slapped like the little bitches they are for using the people of Afghanistan as their ??look what we did, isn??t it wonderful? propaganda. GW still doesn't give a rat's ass about the people of Afghanistan.
??Nuff said. I can??t wait to see the responses for this. :o

Ahhh, you got a point there. At least about the language, not the substance. It just really pisses me off that GW and friends want to give themselves a big pat on the back for something that they really never intended on in the first place. What can I say? I let my emotions get the best of me. :(

But of course, when the United States government decides an elected government is illegitimate, it's perfectly okay for it to stage a military coup.

Remember, freedom means a lot more than checking a name on a piece of paper every few years. Also remember that the United States government only supports "democracy" when it is in the interests of the United States government.

You mean like when Saddam was getting 99% of the vote in a country where 80% of the people hated him? The U.S. and others may find that a little hard to believe.
