You are very correct, Melodious! Probably that's why the link between obesity and poverty goes hand in hand. Because poverty is a particularly prevalent problem among the uneducated. Educated people make more money than uneducated ones. Hence there's a direct connection between all three (education, poverty, obesity). Same thing with cigarette smoking, too, for the most part. Sure there are plenty of exceptions, but for the most part, the more education someone has the less likely that person is to smoke cigarettes or use other tobacco products.

Louisiana goes in there on your bottom-of-the-education-barrel list, too, unless a miracle has happened there that I am unaware of.

I would be surprised if Germany was fatter than the US. If you ever travel outside the US, you can easily pick out the US tourists by their fat asses. Germans tend to be fit because of their ample time off and paid health spa vacations. German tourists are not typically fat like American tourists, and you always find them in the most challenging of physical environments --- hiking on glaciers or on the slopes of volcanoes. I can't tell you the number of times I've had to have a German tourist save my fat American ass --- "Hans! Save my from the Lava!" Apparently a diet of sausage and beer is much lass fattenting than you might think.

I do believe this is true. Lack of education leads to poverty leads to obesity leads to illness and early death. The lack of education not only leads to poverty but also leads to poor, uninformed food choices. And for the poor who are not ignorant and who know better, there is still the problem of the "food desert." In many poor communities, the major supermarket chains don't have stores because of the insurance problems, and there is no place for miles around where you can actually buy decent healthy food. People have to travel for miles at some expense to get healthy food, or they settle for the expensive crap available at convenience stores. I've experienced this myself.

That's some decent info, but it doesn't say the Germans are fatter than Americans, it says they are the fattest is Europe. Things may have changed, but my observation in the past was that in geneal Europeans don't seem as fat as Americans, so my assumption is that even the fattest country in Europe may not be as fat as America --- no scientific eveidence, just my guess.

Well heres a link that says that Germans are at least, as fat as Americans. So none of these "developed" countries, such as the U.S.A, Europe, Canada, whatever are in that great of shape when it comes to obesity.

My High School French teacher always told us that the French stay so thin because, they usually eat one big meal a day. i dunno if that has any merit or not.

Aren't obese people more likely to have diabetes?

How can they turn someone away with diabetes, they could die if they don't eat.
