Atkins Diet?
My name is Princess and I am carb addict. LOL
I went on Atkins over 2 months ago and it changed my life. I have lost 32 pounds so far, and over 43 inches overall body fat. I am 34 pounds from my weight goal.
It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have never been healthier.
As for exercise, I do pilates, tae bo, and target area programs. I powerwalk at least 3 miles everyday, both uphill and inclines, with 5 pounds in weights. The best fitness video you can use is Slim in 6. Check it out.
Good luck. It works if you work it, as they say.

Atkins Diet?
Good for you, do what you gotta do. I don't let some diet dictate my life, diets don't work anyway, it has to be a lifestyle change, longterm. No point going on atkins or whoever for a couple weeks then quitting saying it didn't work. I hope you achieve your goal.

Atkins Diet?
actually, for some people, it is.....there is nothing wrong with lo carbs....you get enough carbs, just not carbs you dont need, like from sugar and white flours.....you only eat very lo carbs the first 2 weeks and it actually reprograms your body and converts you to using protein for fuel instead of the carbs, as it should be....atkins isnt for everyone...it is like a self help group for carb addicts, to break the cycle and teach you and your body how to eat responsibly....i for one am much healthier on it...

Atkins Diet?
Without going into all of the details of celiac disease, I'd like to address the issue of grains, specifically wheat, barley and rye, and what they have to do with the Atikins Diet.
Elimination of grains is an early part of the Atkins diet. This is when people usually see their results fastest. Unfortunately for many, the reintroduction of gluten grains into their diet is a mistake.
The substance called gluten, found in wheat, rye and barley, has negative effects on most people that do not even have active celiac disease. Those that go on Atkins may, at first, feel better because of the elimination of gluten. Some of these people may even have celiac, a gluten sensitivity, or be at risk for developing celiac if they are genetically pre-disposed to it. One in a hundred people have celiac diseas, but only three percent are diagnosed. The only treatment currently available is the complete elimination of gluten from the diet. As many as half the population has a gluten sensitivity, which can lead to all kinds of health problems if they continue to consume gluten - they are not diagnosed because they don't have gastrointestinal problems, anemia and other typical sypmtoms of celiac disease, and their blood and biopsy tests are negative.
When people say that they have a carb "addiction", this could very well be an addiction to gluten - which is chemically similar to opiates. It affects the brain and neurological functions.
A protein similar to gluten, casein, is found in dairy products. I have an intolerace to that, also. Often, doctors are not even aware of casein problems.
There is a growing number of children and adults with Autism, and other disorders, who have been helped immensely by diets that eliminate gluten and casein. Interestingly, these people do not have a higher percentage of celiac disease than the rest of the population.
I highly recommend the book Dangerous Grains, below. For people that have celiac disease, or know someone that does, Celiac Disease - A Hidden Epidemic, is very informative.
