Summer Jobs: What would you recommend?
This is where you learn the skill everyone needs in life: selling yourself.
It isn't true that no one would hire a newbie. There's businesses, and people that want to keep costs down. Rather than hire someone with experience who'd demand more pay, you hire someone with no or little experience, train them, have them grow under their watch.
You go up to them and ask if they have a job. Give eye contact, a firm handshake, sound like you work hard, show eagarness to learn new skills, and most of all, have confidence in yourself.
Not everyone will hire you, but if you bring on that swagger, someone will give you a chance. It's how you present yourself.

Yeah. Don't go to an interview in your everyday Dickies and T-Shirt and expect to get a job, although I have gotten lucky before...

Lesson #2. It's okay to ask questions. Don't be afraid despite what people say.

To work at the pool you only have to be 14 for safety, 15 for lifeguards. you get your lessons for about a couple days before opening day and thats it.
