Why assume a God would reward belief in him more than being honest and good to others ? By definition the (christian/catholic) god is benevolent, so that doesn't make sense.
What if YOU are wrong ? You've lost a whole (and the single one you had) life being deceived and believing on something that wasn't real. I'd rather take my chances and either become dust when I die or explain the god up there that I never believed in him, but I was a nice guy who smoked some nice joints with some other nice guys, had a nice life and a nice job and made others happy, while also enjoying life myself.
A true good and benevolent god wouldn't send me to hell for that.
Wouldn't you agree ?
I don't believe or disbelieve in a "god" there is as much evidence for as against one (which is zero) What I do know is that I am here and I do know that I want to be happy. My philosophy is to treat others the way I want to be treated. Live my life in striving to have fun and in the end I hope that whatever belief or non-belief is true, that being a normal good person will be enough. I cannot and will not live my life to something that is unproveable. I also find many religions to be highly hypocritical and the cause of much suffering in the world.
Added note I also feel we should (as in human race) to further our knowledge of the world. Not to explain away things we don't understand with superstitions but to really find out how things work and why things are the way they are.
God does'nt care what you think of him, it will just patiently wait for you to discover it. The closer you get to God, the closer God gets to you.
