No need for such big pots for a mother plant. You can keep the plants small such that a 1 or 2 gallon pot is sufficient. Check out this tutorial on Bonsai moms. It's a good read.
When he talks about my plants in 10 gallon pots, he's talking about my two five months of VEG plants. They were completely root bound in 5 gallon pots a couple weeks ago, and all I could find were ten gallon .Quote:

Root bound in a five gallon pot... five months of veg... wow you must be growing a tree! Sorry for the confusion. That bonsai tutorial put me on the right track. So easy.
Yeah, Vance shot that out there about a month ago.:jointsmile:Quote:

Right now if I cut her for every clone she's worth I'd get about 25, and still have enough foliage left on her for her to re-veg.
Everything else is progressing nicely.
Dianna has stretched enough that I had to move the light up some,... so now I have to find something else to put under Gia to get her closer to the light, and I need to start training Gia's branches since a couple of them are pushing 4" long now.
Pistles are popping out everywhere, tho they're all still really small pre-flowers.
i tried to post a new thread w pics on this site. But when i did i got an error saying i didnt have the authoirty to post a new threat. some admin thing...how do i post?
Just trying to help. No time to read through all of your love letters ;)Quote:

Thanks Bigs, Mom's canopy is about 2x2' and supports about 30 viable clones. I'd have to trim the crap out of that too,.... Not quite sure what I'm gonna do after seeing some suspect growth on Gia thursday night.:wtf:
Pics from Day 7 of flowering.

Pic 2: Forming flowers at the top of Diana
Pic 3: Gia
Pic 4: my flowering cabinet
Pic 5: suspect growth cut off of Gia,... am I trippin or do those look like sacks?
This was on a lower branch, and there were no signs of pistles any where on that branch, there's another branch that has 2 preflowers that look the same, but there's pistles in the main growth bud at the top of it, so I'm going to let those develop a bit more and be certain before I trim anything else out.
The rest of the plant is covered in pistles like Diana's top is, no signs of any sack like formation.
you can catch him on youtube as well! He has a very nice lil setupQuote:

Fortunately neither one is showing any tranny signs above the lowest branches, and even mom has been showing pre-flowers with all pistles sticking out of them recently.
So I suspect the sacks on the lower branches of this set of clones is due to the extreme stress the plant was under at the time I took the cuttings.
Time will tell, Wish me luck.
I kicked my Mother plants ass tonight!:D
Only took 16 clones,... (kinda ran out of patience to do more :o ) Might have to just prune the remaining tops out in order to maintain my "bonsai" I just hate wasting what could be a viable plant. :(:hippy:
I've replaced the El'Cheapo 400w HPS with a PlantMax bulb and must say I like the spectrum MUCH more than the first one, I cant wait to see how the plants respond.
Pic 1: Mom trimmed down
Pic 2: The cuttings, Vance, you said you wanted 3-4? :rastasmoke:
Pic 3: Gia
Pic 4: Diana
Four would be great. However three is all I'll grow out. I could give the fourth to Cathy and Gerry.
I'd planned to take and post a pic of my SCRog plants Saturday. However the new growth was so densely packed, I re-wove the whole thing to both fill in the screen, AND give better light to ALL.:D All the tips turned to the light yesterday. I can see a TON more new leaves as well. This morning was watering time, So tonight will be Photo day.:hippy:
3 day's later and I'd say things look good. Found a couple more sacks on the lowest branches of both plants and trimmed them out, I hope it's stress and not genetic because the tops are growing so dense I'd never see a sack till it's too late.
Pics!

Pic 4: the new cuttings, none are dying yet, I hope thats good. :hippy:
I've been slacking on progress reports on my outdoor girl,... mainly since she's still in veg as the solstice was just a couple day's ago and equinox isn't for another couple months, but suffice to say she's been growing like a weed!
I'll try and take a pic in the morning. ;)
<--------SLACKER!!!!! :stoned:
As promised I did take a pic of my outdoor plant,.... that was 3 day's ago! :o She's looking good, and is making pre-flowers, so far all girl ones :detective1: I figure she's got another month to month and a half before the shortening day's start to kick her into flower, so by the time she's done I'm guessing she'll just be hitting the top of the fence line.
I'm kinda thinking I dwarfed my current 2 indoor plants tho,:wtf: The only real new growth seems to be flowers, (no leaves poking out, no stretch) and the buds are tiny, about the tip of my pinky finger, and there's the beginnings of trich poppage on the few new growth leaves there are.
Temps were a bit (LOT) on the high side for the first week under the HPS, 90+ and spiked over 100 once, I think I had it too close.
I rebuilt the flower room with top to bottom Panda, added a portable swamp cooler to the intake, (on the timer with the light so it only runs during the "Day" (actually over night)) and an 8" in-line fan exhausting to the veg room, (this is on 24-0) This brought my Flowering temps in line, typically running 77-79* with the light on, 73-75 lights off, It's sometimes a bit high when I go in the room and have the light barrier open for very long, but 83.8 was the high spike last night, 73.1 was the low, and so far tonights temps haven't broken 80* Humidity hovers in the high 30's to low 40% for both rooms.
My Veg room is running a bit hot ATM since I"m running the T-5's 24-0 over the clones under the table, but it's still an acceptable 83-85* with the light on, I did a ghetto air cooled rig on the El'Cheapo reflector, I've got my exhaust tube plumbed to the base of the bulb and a 6" computer fan screwed to the reflector on the other end blowing right over the bulb and into the exhaust! :D It actually dropped the light's on temp to 85 from almost 90!
Here's some pics already.
Well,... I upped my exhaust tube size to 8" and reduced the bends, it's moving MUCH more air now,... tomorrow will tell what it did to the temps. :stoned:
No new pics, I'll try and take some in the morning and post them in the evening,.... stupid job anyway!
I'm keeping an eye on the local laws since they're trying to change them, and many changed today! ... I might not be able to complete this log if things change the way they are trying.
I'd hate to cut my crop with all I've invested into the rooms and lights,... but hell I've got perfect conditions to grow indoor crops of tomato's, lettuce, carrots, peppers, and spices!!!! :D
Anyone know what it takes to make a fruit tree produce indoors? (Peach, Cherry, and Apple) :detective1:
None of the laws effect you. Only real change(HB10-1284) is in the dispensary areas. Plus you can't sell extras TO a dispensary. SB109 changed what we have to do to get the card in the first place, but not until your next renewal.
What do you need to fruit trees in your house??
You need Bees to pollinate them is about it. High ceilings don't hurt either! :D Plus you need to investigate what PH, nutes and other stuff each plant would need. My grandmother grew lemons, peaches AND Plums in her living room over the years. She even bonsai'd a lemon tree. It looked funny when the lemon it grew was bigger then the tree itself!
I thought that's why god invented Q-tips? ;)Quote:

Ohhh Yeah, you NEED to call me THIS weekend ;)
I dug out your number. However it's 7:45am now. So, I'll wait until your more likely awake!
Heh,.... actually I was awake then ;) Took some pics, then went back to bed. The wife just left with the camera tho, so I'll have to post the pics later.

Number 4!!!! Grow your patriotism!!!!!! :thumbsup::jointsmile::hippy::jointsmile::thumbsup :
I went in tonight to check on my flowering girls and a HUGE red flag went up.
Pistles were dying back on Gia!!!!!!!!!! :wtf:
I took a close look at her underside,... and sure as hell I missed a sack and that little fucker was wide open and dangling it's junk out there for the world to suck up!
I'm not gonna put up with heavily seeded meds for my wife, so Gia got cut down tonight, the harvest is WAY early and most of the trichs are just starting to turn cloudy from clear, and there obviously wasn't a chance to flush nutes out :(
It'll be junk smoke for sure, but she wanted me to manicure it and dry it out anyway so it's in a drying box now.
Diana has a few pistles that are brown, but they're mainly in the lower buds, and are few and far between,... I'll keep an eye on her. If she's not heavily pollinated I'll let her mature and keep the seeds for future grows.
Here's a few picks of my epic failure,... need to get back in the basement and comb over Diana.:detective1:
Pic 1: The Evil sack!
Pic 2: Gia after trimming all the fan leaves,... I've since cut the branches off the main stem, but no pics of that or the impromptu drying box..... Yes that is a AA battery for size comparison,.... not a very good yeild :(
Ew. Hermie.

The top of the branch the male sack was on was ALL girl and looking great!!!!! (3rd branch up from the bottom in the 2nd pic)
Both my 2 Vegging clones are showing 100% female pre-flowers, just like mom is.... so hopefully when they go under 12/12 for round 2 this won't be a problem.:hippy:
Diana is so far looking like she's only got a couple pollenated flowers, and mostly down low, I haven't found any browning pistles on the top of the plant.
I think I'll be able to let her run her course.
Pic 1: The whole plant,... I gave up trying to take pic's under the HPS so this is actually on the MH side and the background is the light barrier to the 12/12 HPS side. (P.S. the pic was taken during "Daytime" for the HPS side, just moved the plant under more camera friendly light for a couple minuets. ;) )
Pic 2: Diana's top
Pic 3: one of the middle buds showing nice frosting.
Pic 4: one of the lowest buds, there seems to be a lot of pistle die back here and I suspect this bud will be heavy on the seeds when it matures.
The wife decided that we will let the seeded buds mature and she'll either pick them out of the finished product or we will have to catch them IF they fall before harvest.
No new pics tonight since I've quarantined the grow room due to a mite outbreak on the houseplants in the front window! (one floor above the grow room, and separated by about a 100 foot walk thru the house and down the stairs....... Im cutting the carpet (leaving bare wood(stairs) then concrete) and spraying the walkway with Neem tonight)
My Outdoor plant is still mite free,... which is kinda surprising/amusing given her environment.
Should still have about a month or so before that one kicks into flower..... I HOPE she finishes up before the first freeze,.... it'll be close by the weather models.
I'm just not a fan of outdoor grows. Seems to limited. Hope it goes well for you.
Thanks for stopping by, and I really hope so too!:hippy: but it all depends on what part of the world your in, check this thread out....Quote:

This is my first grow, (since I was a teenager, but this one is LEGAL! :D  ) and as such is a complete experiment for me.
All I can say about my outdoor plant vs my indoor plants, is WOW the outside plant has MUCH bigger leaves, (tho node spacing is slightly farther apart)
She's quite a bit more stinky too even tho she's still veging, ( showing lots of pre-flowers/pistles but not budding)
And aside from inspection for mites and an occasional feeding has been completely maintenance free. (haven't watered thanks to natural watering via rain, and overspray from my lawn's sprinkler system)
Outdoors has it's issues for sure,... but nature has a greater plan for it's creations,.... and man has a HELLUVA time recreating that in what would otherwise be complete darkness! ;)
Hmmmmm,... for my latitude at summer solstice I should only be getting 14.8 hours of daylight,... as of today 14.5 hours,... No flowers on my outdoor plant, but pre-flowers with pistles all over the place,... ohh and the pre-flowers are about 2x the size of the preflowers on my indoor plants as well! :wtf:
I'll try and take some detailed pics of the outdoor plant tomorrow.
Pics of the indoor vs outdoor grows, both plants were cut from the same mother, the outdoor has been veging for a couple months, while the indoor just over one month, but the indoor is typical of the growth under the lights.
Outdoor was planted in 3 gallons of happy frog and the rest of the pot is generic "Topsoil", has never received more than 15 hours of light a day, and gets watered city tap from the lawns sprinkler system (Over spray, not directly, with a ph of around 8 ) and rainwater when a storm rolls thru, I'll dump excess nute water on her when I feed the indoor plants, but it's still pretty close to the Feed water water schedule.
Indoor plants are potted in Ocean forrest, getting 18/6 light schedule, and Ph'ed water with a feeding every 3rd watering
Pic 1: Outdoor fan leaf, just shy of 6" across
Pic 2: Outdoor pre-flower right around 3mm
Pic 3: Indoor Fan leaf about 2.5" across (the thermometer in the background is on "Clock" display, the temps are NOT over 100*!! ;) )
Pic 4: Indoor pre-flower 1mm
I"m not complaining, and don't really think there's any problem inside, just interesting comparison. I'm open to suggestions on improvements inside tho.
Step away from the plants, and GO TO WORK!! :lol5:
How are those cuttings??
One of the nice things about my job is I'm actually allowed VACATION!!!:D:D:D:rastasmoke:;)Quote:

The cuttings: One of them rooted in about 6 day's, the other two didn't show signs of roots till today :wtf:  I'll keep them till I can see which one will best suit as a bonsai mom, then kill the other 2. :(
Yours?:hippy:
Ahhhhhh,..... vacation,....
I got bored checking in on Diana with her being the only plant under the HPS,... and my garden veggies are growing well, so I've decided to clear up some space in my veg room.
First the larger of the two tomato plants got moved to the family room, which helped, but isn't gonna make room for 5 kinds of pepper!
The call was made to put Mom AKA Purple, into flower! :hippy:
After some pruning of twiggy growth and heavy undergrowth I've now got her SCROGED in the flowering booth under the 400w Plantmax HPS. It took about half an hour to train her branches and work the screen down to where I could staple it to the walls. Then I did a bit more pruning to assure good light penetration in a couple areas.
This should be fun to watch :rastasmoke: It'll either be a complete flop or utter success!
Pic 1: Purple trained under a 21x24" screen, Diana's top is in the foreground. I tried to get some pics of her under the HPS,... but failed AGAIN! :( I'll try and get some of her tomorrow under the MH since my camera is more forgiving in that light.
The square shape behind the pandaliner is the downpipe for my exhaust vent
I'm definitely interested in what the yield will be
How long has your mother been in veg stage for?
A bit better than 2.5 months,... got her as a clone from the local dispensary on 4-14,... nearly killed her on the journey to get to this point, but have taken over 30 clones from her, (all either sold while I could do so legally, or since the laws changed on 7-1,.... destroyed :( ) and could have taken 40-50+ viable clones off of her before I started pruning tonight. :(
I'm just guessing here, but I think I'll have about 15-20 "Tops" leftover in this mess,... and just by looking at the sea of branches that have nodes in full exposure to the HPS I should yield a LOT of popcorn buds! :rastasmoke:
Fingers crossed that this will look like a carpet of buds with a few bigguns in it!
New pics
Pic 1: Diana;..... I've decided to harvest this one,... it's still a bit early,... but I just need the room in the flowering area..... so wednesday night she gets cut.:( :rastasmoke:
Pic 2: Diana, and her replacement,... "Prim" who's been in Veg for as long as Diana's been in bloom!
This should be fun to watch!
Pic 3: MOM AKA Purple SCROG'd out! :rasta: I'll need to thin her but technically tracking this one thru blossom is finishing off my "First" grow, inspite of the harvest of two clones taken off of her! :D ;) :hippy: :rastasmoke:
They won't be popcorn buds for long!Quote:

Harvest was a bit early, but as far as I can tell 100% cloudy, and pistles were dying back so down she comes!
I didn't expect a high yield on my first grow, and sure didn't get it off of Gia!
Diana could have been better if I could have waited, but 31g wet is a good deal better than I was expecting!:D
We are gonna do a quick dry/cure, I'm sure the smoke will be a bit harsh, but it already smells so much better than the buds off of Gia! :rastasmoke:
Pic 1: All of Diana,
Pic 2: Just Diana's top
Pic 3: One of the lower buds showing nice frosting
Pic 4: All trimmed up against the wife's forearm
Pic 5: Trimmed harvest, standard Bic in there for sizing.... 31g wet :smokin:
Of course, our guard cat didn't think that harvest and manicuring was all that interesting,... so I just HAD to wake him up! :D :rasta:
After just a day of drying the buds have lost a LOT of weight, and the harvest isn't near as impressive,.... Should still smoke the wife out for a while, but it's not what I wanted.
Overall My first shot at this has been a real eye opener, and a great learning experience! :D
I'll post up some more in this log just to finish out the Outdoor grow, but I'm not gonna track the indoor stuff from here out. (Too F'n much work takin pics and posting, specially considering my work hours, and the fact that the site is down from 11pm-11:45/12a locally. )
as long as you look at it this way, its always a success. it took me a couple grows before i was happy enough with the results, and im still improving my yeild.Quote:

and im sure she is greatfull for it:jointsmile:, even if its not as much or what you wanted.Quote:
