A some pretty new growth.

The pepper plant has at least 3 peppers on it. Very nice!
I still want to hear everyone's opinion on the bong too.

Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
the glass dont look bad for a first bong, i got two things i smoke with every day, my glass pipe spoon shape i mostly smoke out of this but once or twice a day i got to get the bong out and take a few rips. i love glass:bonghit:
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
I had a great bong, but the wife accidentally bumped it off the counter and it shattered into a million little pieces... I loved that little thing. Ladies look great man. I am not sure about the discoloration. What are your temps in the closet? Hey, how are the clones? No pictures of those?
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
Well it's Tuesday...
The temps are fine. Mid 70's.
One or twice a day maro? Hah, I think I'll only be a weekend & holiday toker, so I wanna make it the best feelin possible. :stoned:
There won't really be much to report for a lot of the rest of the grow. I'm putting the branches back under the screen once a day. I'll always try to remember to say if I watered or gave nutes, but for the most part, we'll just be watching the girls flower together. :1baa:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/7281/dsc00375t.jpg
Still no roots out the bottom of the cups, but the clones do seem to be growin, so I'm just leavin em in the dome. Soil is constantly moist. When do you think I should start letting them dry out?
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
good stuff man, read from page one to five lol, the screen definately helps bushy ass plants like ours but thats also why i cut a few fans off lol. cant wait to see if they get hella hairy when you flower them! as far as nutes topic, i also use the Fox Farm products and love them, i continue using them cuz very good results and the sayin goes if it aint broken dont fix it! your clones look good too, i would transplant them when you notice new growth as thats a sign of having roots.
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
Lookin good with the t5 man! i was kinda scared when i went out and bought this and came back to see people saying there mainly for cuttings and clones but after watching them grow from the t'5s i have no doubt u can use them all the way from start to finish. keep it up bro:rastasmoke:
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
I usually take the dome off right about now, only putting it back on if they start to wilt.

Welcome G13, glad you could stop by. I think I'm just going to leave the fan leaves alone and see how it turns out for the first grow. As far as nutes, I'm noticing slightly burnt tips on the White Widow. Others have mentioned that this strain really likes low dose nutes, so I think I'll go with 1/4 strength instead of 1/2 strength on my next feeding. The clones are definitely growing, so I'll let the soil dry a bit and transplant them.

Yeah, the T5's are great for light distribution over a big area. I think it's also easier to keep the temps down in the room. Inside the closet is only 1-2 degrees above the outside room temperature.

It's funny you said that, as I took the dome off about 15 minutes before I read your post. Now I feel a little better about my decision! :)

Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
Well...
I counted today, and there are 22 potential bud sites above the screen, and about the same amout below. If all grows well, that'll be 44 total bud sites! It's hard to see all of them since many are below fan leaves.
http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3830/dsc00383j.jpg
I added another fan today to lightly blow across the buds.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought I saw my first trichome today. It was either a trich, or a shiny piece of dust. :wtf:
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
The bigger and bushier your plants get the less happy you're going to be with those T5's. How many banks of lights are you using?
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
There are 6 lights in the 4 foot fixture. I'm not sure why I'd be upset? I did want to fill out the screen...
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
Tragedy my friends. *sigh*
The plant that grew the best, and promised to have the best overall bud, Scarlet, had her top broken off.
I was trying to put her back under the screen, but her stem was so strong and thick, it decided to snap rather than bend.
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/1835/dsc00389mf.jpg
After only an hour, the top is already wilting away...
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5049/dsc00391up.jpg
I really wanted to keep all the budsites even, and then let them grow all together, however I don't think this will happen. I fear that if I tried to bend Camara over again, she would break as well. So, I tied her down for now, just to keep her slightly even with the rest. It's difficult to see, but I used a garbage bag tie.
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/7497/dsc00392m.jpg
...and here are the the girls all together.
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/8232/dsc00394ct.jpg
I hope that Scarlet can put her energy into the rest of the bud sites, and that this doesnt stunt her growth too much.
In other news, the cuttings look ready for transplant. I see roots coming out the bottom of two of the cups... unfortunately I don't have pots for them yet, but I will soon.
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
dont worry about the top. its sucks but it will be fine it just happens once in a while if your bending tops. any time i do break one off i cut the end and throw it in my cloner.

yeah they loook real good! short and bushy! i like that little scrog setup u made, real simple and keeps the clean look going in the closet:thumbsup: i think your t5's a little crooked, that last picture makes it look so haha
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
Hey, it happens. I think that has happened to all growers at one time or another. In the past I've had stalks fold and break but I was able to stand em back up secured with a rolled matchbook tied shut with string (assuming the stem didn't break all the way off). You'd be surprised how well some plants can recover.

No offense but one bank overhead isn't ideal if you're going to use that kind of lighting. I'd set something up so they would also be getting light from the sides.
Of course, if you're happy with what you have- thats all that matters.

Nice and healthy looking plants otherwise
I find that by doing some LST early in veg, the shoots aren't so stiff by the time they hit the screen, and are easier to train :twocents:
Happy growing

If I had the time, I probably would have. My girlfriend and I were just leaving for a movie, and I already have the three clones growing, so I just said screw it.

Good eye. Yeah the T5's were crooked yesterday because a couple leaves on the leftmost plant were sticking straight up after putting the rest under the screen. I didn't want the light to scorch em!

These plants have a very thick main stem. When it broke, it almost broke clean off, leaving only a small strand of green holding it together. There wasn't much hope of saving this one. :(

I know I may not get the results of a 400W HPS setup, however I'm prepared for that, and I'm just enjoying the grow.

I may have to give earlier LSTing a try in one of my next grows. Thanks for the tip!

Well it's Saturday, and you know what that means. Picture day!
Today I transplanted the clones. They were really starting to take off, and the main root was out the bottom of two of the cups, so it was time. I'm sure they'll be happier in their new homes.

I'm not sure if I'm a badass pot-grower with a green thumb, or it's just dumb luck, but this cloning business seems pretty easy. None of the clones really showed any signs of stress, and all three have good roots. For light, I'm only using an 8 watt light I got at Office Depot when I was in college to do my homework under... which definitely isn't the brightest light. I also don't have any ventilation in the grow area. This will be the next thing to fix.
On to the main plants...

It may be difficult to see growth because I keep putting them under the screen, however it is happening. Also, there are hairs on almost all the new growth sites, so I can tell now where my buds are going to form from. It's hard to believe I'm going to be doing this for the next 2+ months... damn sativa plants!
Here's a pepper update. My girlfriend is super excited to get cookin with these peppers. Anyone know when it's ok to pick em? I've read that the redder the pepper gets, the hotter it gets, but we'd like to try some green ones too.

Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
I am not positive about the peppers, but I would say that you should let them grow a little bit depending on how hot you want them... What kind of pepper are they?
The ladies look great. The juniors look like they are getting a little stretched, but good. I would say you need to either lower the light in your clone "box" or just add a few lights...
Depending on how your grow goes I am thinking of buying some white widow seeds.

The girlfrield and I got anxious tonight, so we ate a pepper. It's a cayenne pepper plant that my girlfriend named Shyanne. :icon220: That lil f*er had some kick and it was still all green. Pretty good flavor too, but a bit soft. I suppose it needs more growing time.
The clones are definitely stretching. That 8w light isn't enough for em, but I'll just keep topping them if I have to. They've got at least 2 months in that little chamber until it's time for transplant into the big room.
The WW so far has been pretty easy to grow. The main things I've learned are look for droopy leaves when they want water, and make sure to go light on the nutes. They seem happy in the FFOF soil, and can take water that isn't pHed properly just fine. Also, the temps have been in the mid 60's to mid 90's and I haven't noticed any ill effects due to temp. Also, watch for a growth spurt right after transplant.
So, something crappy happened today. The duct tape holding the 8W light above the clones gave out, and the light fell down. Of course, it landed right on top of Scarlet, my favorite. When I found her tonight, the light was still on top of her and she was laying completely on her side in the dirt. I took the light off, and she jumped halfways back up, so hopefully she'll be fine, but only time will tell the effect of the damage.
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/7301/dsc00417a.jpg
I also added a computer fan to the room to get some ventilation going. Every time I would lift up the flap, it would smell like stale air in there, and the soil is staying wet too long. Hopefully the fan helps.
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/3692/dsc00418oz.jpg
I watered the main plants today, and gave them ~1/2 strength nutrients. This is the first time I'm using the flowering nutrient "Tiger Bloom." So they got 1 tsp Tiger Bloom/gal, and 1 tsp of Big Bloom/gal.
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/3044/dsc00410wf.jpg
The leaves were a bit droopy today, so I should have watered yesterday. It was 6 days between watering. This week I'll make it 5.
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
not sure if i missed it but have you changed the light to 12/12? I dont remeber you changing the lights, I thought you wanted to fill the screen. I have never given bloom nutes with them under 18 hours of light. If you havent I would be thinking about doing it pretty soon. there going to stretch out a litle when the light switches.

No worries maro. ;)
So, for tonight's update, I did something drastic... possibly quite stupid. I like seeing things for my own eyes, so I made a decision, and I'll live with the results. All fan leaves coming from the main stem of Scarlet were removed tonight. Here are the pictures.

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/9711/dsc00429n.jpg
The good thing about this is that all of the bud sites are now getting more light. The bad part is that I cut off a lot of energy making areas for the plant. Will it pay off? Go ahead and make your predictions now. I really have no idea.
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
So the Scarlet clone has bounced back (literally), and is only slightly worse for wear. It looks like she'll be fine after the lighting incident.
I'm starting to think that cutting off all those fan leaves was the right decision. On the other plants, the fan leaves are constantly on top of the bud sites, whereas on Scarlet, the bud sites all have plenty of light, and look to be thriving. Time (and yield) will tell. I've also noticed that under a couple leaves that were on top of one another, that there were drops of water. Apparently the leaves were keeping the evaporated water between one another... this is bad as it could cause mold.

Hey guys.
Noticed the bottom two leaves of the Camara clone had discoloration on them. Anyone know what this is? I'm noticing that the pots they're in aren't drying very fast, so I hope it's not mold related. That little room needs more ventilation and more light. I'm trying to decide what the best way to go about it is... maybe just a new set of lights is the best answer, and an S shaped air inlet to keep light from escaping.

I'm trying to think of ways I could have filled the screen better. Maybe allow the plants more stretch early on so the stems arent so thick that they snap? Possibly topping when they were younger so they have multiple tops to fill the screen?

I'll put in my :twocents:
Here's the 'guide' I used: http://boards.cannabis.com/closet-ca...ly-ladies.html <<Topped and trained clones vegged for 8 weeks. Personally I haven't tried topping because I don't want to slow down my veg time, plus the Trainwreck is such a vine-y, scraggly growing plant that the branches are easy to put into good positions.
For next time, you can try starting with LST first, then put the screen on earlier and lower (as long as you have room to pull shoots back under and water your pots). Another thing I found helps is the twist ties. Kind of hard to explain, but I pull up the longer branches from the middle of the branch and tie it to the screen, so that the nodes at and above the tie point and are all pulled up against the screen. Might be hard to do at this point with your thick stems however.
If you need any help I'm usually around. Happy growing
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
Nah, I totally get what you're saying finn (as only someone growing would). To get some of my bud spots up to the screen, I currently try to pull the leaves/fan leaves above the screen, and hope that the leaves will hold the bud spot above the screen. Sometimes, it works, sometimes it falls back through. Using twist ties would definitely work, although many of the branches would get covered up by the uppper fan leaves unless I trimmed off the fan leaves... do you do this? Mostly it's the main stem and it's fan leaves that are getting in the way.
On the clones I'm growing now, I'll try some LSTing... if I get a chance. The folks are flying out from the midwest in a couple months, and they'd probably croak if they knew I was growing.... so I may have to put the clones on hold.
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
Watered today. Decided to experiment a little more and added 1 tablespoon of Grandmas Unsulphered Blackstrap Molasses to each gallon of water (3 gallons total). It's only been 4 days since the last water. Last time I waited 6 days between watering.... and I wanted to wait 5 days this time. However, all of the pots were dry, and Camara was really dragging the ground, as you'll see in the pic.
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/1310/dsc00444l.jpg
I need to get a better camera to get you guys pictures of the buds as they come along. I don't feel like this old sony 5 mp with a small lense really does them justice.
-
Raiz' First Grow Log - 3 White Widow Seeds from Nirvana
I don't cut my fan leaves. I try to keep everything below the screen until I see hairs, then I let it all grow up. In the meantime, I pull the fan leaves under the screen and under the canopy. Some try to poke back up, some don't. It a 2-3 week process for me. Once I'm 2 weeks into 12/12, I just let it all grow up.
One thing I forgot to mention, the 'problem' you're having with your main stem is because the longer one shoot is on the top, the thicker it'll grow. So it's kind of a balancing act to keep all the shoots a similar size throughout veg with topping and LST.
Anyways they look nice and healthy

Yeah, today is Saturday, and there wasn't a post on Friday. I know how upset you all were. Well it wasn't my fault. Cannabis.com seems to be "busy" lots of times when I log in. It's pretty bad some days, and I just have to walk away for an hour, and then come back. I think after this grow is finished that I'll switch to another website for future grow logs. :(
Finn, again thanks for the advice. I'll try to limit the amount of time that the top is the top. This should help with my next grow.

Oh yeah, the bud sites (if you can call them that this early), all have nice white hairs coming out of them. Yeah, they've been growing without much training for about 4-5 days now. Up up and away.
