Thanks I was completely bumfuzzled.
Given those positions?
I'd move;
QRP X QKNP then use one passed pawn as a decoy to promote the other one.
What would you do?:D

Damn. Don't understand the question.
You mean, if you stay light pieces you'd do that move?
And "passed pawn" probably means something, too. You mean one that gets past the opponent's front line? Passed by whom?
"Promote" means to get it to the back row and officially up a piece in rank, ya? Not jes' general helpin' along / blocking for a piece?
That's a reasonable move for light (guess you call that red). The translated instructions with my $3 set refer to "light and dark" instead of white and black. No wanna be culturally insensitive and send pawn runnin' home cryin'. :sadcrying
See ya commented on my fashion post. See why I needed a new look for awhile?

Yes

By other pawns.
As long as 2 pawns are head to head, promotion is not possible.
That's what the little flurry in the beginning was.
Had to lure your pawns away to be able push mine through.
If white captures with the pawn instead of the knight, white will have 2 passed pawns
Those 2 passed pawns could be the most important pieces on the board right now.

Zachary. when a pawn reaches the 8th rank you can trade it for any piece but a king.
Most folks promote to a queen, but that is not always the wisest choice.

I was hopin' you'd take the bait and move yer dang knight outta my rook's path so I could sneak up behind your pawns. Of course, while I'm doing this you're setting up checkmate....:wtf:

I was not aware of this rule in chess because I think I was 6 or 7 when I was shown the game, probably by my uncle who would have been 12 or so. I did know about "KING ME!" in checkers, though. Also didn't know about en passant capture. The ability to promote pawns changes the entire strategy of the game.

Unless you need another knight, I guess? A queen functionally replaces either of the other options.

Oh! You said K knp. :o
Well, in that case.
KRP - KR4
Same as if I had moved to KR3 because you can en passant capture it.
The difference is, an en passant, if declined, expires. and leaves your rooks pawn blocked.
The continueing pressure of a pawn stand off would have let you advance your Krook pawn and protect your Kknp.
Can't allow that.:D

Understood. I do a continual harvest so I've got bushy plants, fresh from veg, catching stray photons around the budding ladies. Once the plants mature it's a little harder to paint 'em with light efficiently. I just jarred up the last 2 plants that had been under HPS for just awhile at the beginning. For intents and porpoises, they're all led grown. Glad you guys figgered out about the trichs not getting amber as a gauge of maturity. This stuff is wicked. I'm getting a few brand-new shiny trichs and fluffy white pistils right up to the end, too. (Under the HPS the plants ran their life cycle and threw in the towel.) These'd probably be easy to reveg, if you're into reanimation.
Everything in the bloomery now is 100% diode-reared. What was I talking about??? (Still :stoned:from last night...)

Calling out to DreadedHermie for a game of "stoner chess"
And there,
is a classic use of th en passant rule
K X P!
'cause that's what kings do in an end game.
Now, the king can support the bottom of white's pawn chain while it strips black of it's last remaining hope.
All black's pawns are doomed.
Black's rook is impotent and overworked.
(This all started around move 4 or 5 in the opening).
Might be a good time to bail and start a new annotated game.
You take white and move first, it's a major advantage.
White's first move sets the tone of the whole game.

Calling out to DreadedHermie for a game of "stoner chess"
We now have our KPs head to head, nose to nose, toes to toes.
My reply was forced to prevent White from KP - Kp5 and severely cramping my "turf".
Next move is usually QP or QKn.
The idea in the opening is;
Move each piece once, to it's most effective position in one move or less.:D
Then leave it be until mid game.
Knights toward the center, bishops to the longest diagonals. Pawns in diagonal chains with their bottoms well protected.
You wish to free your power pieces from the back rank without leaving the exit door open.
Knights are best at that, but dropping a knight at Bishop's 3, (An excellent Knight position), blocks the bishop's pawn from advancing. :(
Kn - R3 is a weak position for the knight.
It can only reach 4 squares, at B3 it reaches 8 squares!
At R1, 2 squares.
So you are trying to get that pawn to B4 and the knight to B3
in the most efficient manner.
That part is all about time.
I will try to force you to make unproductive moves to negate your time advantage.
Don't allow me to do dat.
I will also try to get you to trade a well positioned, (therefore more valuable piece), for a poorly positioned piece of mine alla time.
To a crappy computer chess algorithm, it "looks" like an even trade. :)
Always evaluate a pieces actual worth before accepting a trade offer.
If it looks like a good trade for you, it just may be bait.
"Ya can't cheat an honest man."
(Actually, you can, but it's too much work.) :D

You chose not to trade queens!:wtf:
Surprised me bigtime.
It would have been to your advantage.
So, I'll ignore your impudent pawn for a moment and give steel to the grand lady.
Q X Q. Check!
You have no choice here.
Your only option is K X Q and that is good for black because once the king moves, he can no longer castle to either side.
And white has lost the first move advantage
Then I'll move QKn - QB3 to cover my remaining center pawn.
And we now each have 1 power piece developed and I still have a center, (albeit isolated for now), pawn.
What's happened in the background is, I've regained some time and the tempo is now even.
Study the last few moves to see how that happened and you will understand a stratagy that most players are unaware of.
They play only to gain space.
You will play to gain space and time.
Your opponents will never know what hit them.:what:
I say this now, because I plan to do it again.
If I pull it off, I'll be 1 full move ahead.:)
Kind of a "Martian method" for chess.:D
But this time you will know what I'm after, yah?
I can see that you've done some studyin', my friend.
But, we are going to explore angles here that you will not find in most chess tutorials.

You really should retract and reconsider that move. brah
There is no "pawn chain" , yet, and IF you did that, I would simply capture that naughty, and unprotected, pawn with the bishop and have black's bishop developed to an excellent square while snapping up a pawn..
That would allow black, a Queen's side castle giving simultaneous check and you would be 2.5 moves behind.
There are better moves...
Fer instance, moving youre white Bishop to your Q3 would keep my king's pawn from advancing and driving your Knight from an excellent square.
That would have been a wasted move, (moved the knight twice!), that would give black a substantial time advantage.
Black would be about a move and a half ahead of white.
So, I hope you re-consider, because this move is critical. and could lead to an early and undistinguished demise.:D

I could be wrong.:D:D

I've got a pawn on KB5 already. (Did that instead of yer queen. :D) That's the one your bishop takes, but I take the bishop with the pawn I just moved. It's protecting the one that's already there. Or am I missing something??
I like the B K3 move, though.

Good move!
Blocks my pawn advance, and covers your advanced pawn which inhibits my bishop.
Not to mention that you developed another piece.
You have regained the time lead.
Kn - KB3
Threatens your pawn. (That's easy enough to fix),
But also re-news the threat of black's King's pawn advance which would lose a piece for white. by "forking" the knight and bishop with a pawn.
And, it develops a piece for black.
