Why is San Francisco so highly regarded/valued?

A large gay population, combined with other child-free people, creates a higher standard of living.

Just becareful. Ocean Beach is a very dangerous beach. Cold Water, Big Waves, Strong Rip-Tides, and some of the strongest underwater currents on earth.
