I see everyone saying to boil it. You dont have to in fact sometimes boiling a pipe, is too much thermal shock for the glass to quickly, and the pipe will break.
easy 5-10 minute method
1. ZIP LOCK BAG
2. Epsom or kosher salt (you want salt that is abrasive)
3. 99.9% ISO Alcohol
put about a table spoon for every inch of pipe, could be less or more. Put enough alcohol to submerge pipe, and a little more.
Combine all ingredients into zip-lock bag, you can shake bag like shake and bake, or better seal bag, and hold pipe then shake.
you are using the salt as brushes, only they are free do do their work so you don't have too.
you can let them all soak for about 10 minutes before shaking, If it is a piece that is very dirty.
Things that help, the purer the alcohol the easier it is, the more abrasive the salt the easier it is, If you hold the pipe and not the bag while shaking, use the openings of the pipe to shake fluid and salt in the pipe over and over, very rapidly.
I clean my bong about every other day, or even every day sometimes, takes literally 5 minutes, and I have 2 tree percs , a diffuser, and 2 feet of bong to clean. for pipes I like to let the fume take some color, but not so much the taste is bad.
It is easy, no need for tongs, or fire, or heavy ingenuity, it is very simple and very easy once you get a handle on it, if its hard it does get easier.
If you keep your glass clean your taste is that much better, and your filtration is that much better.
I have tried everything except lacquer thinner.
I purchased a new ashcatcher and it developed a coating of something that just wouldn't even scrub off with cleanser!
Tried ZOOM, and even though I hate the ads, it works!
I didn't even have to scrub it, just watched it foam (chemical reaction) away whatever the coating was.
This is a repeat of a comment i posted but i want evryone to give this cheap method i have used for decades a try. Go to your local grocery store and buy a product called DIP-IT, it is used to clean coffee pots. 1st -Add the dip-it to a dry glass bong not the whole box, 2nd-Fill bowl with bowling water and wait a few min. and rince with more boiling water. If bong is really dirty repeat process. When your done clean with dish soap and cool water. Enjoy.. If you try this cheap method i guarantee you will thank me and be amazed by it. It will make an old glass bong like brand new again. I have used this method for 30 years and there is no better way IMO.
I forgot to mention they sell 2 types of dip-it, don't buy the liquid bottle buy the powder in a box it works way better.
Or instead you could go to your local headshop and get some pipe cleaners (i use 420 and it works perfect) What it is is basically the same thing. Alcohol with some sort of gritty stuff. Im pretty sure its salt or really fine sand to brush away resin. It also has a nice scent lol! You may not want to spend the money on it (im not sure how much it goes for) but i know the guys in the headshop near my house so i get it for free. Im sure its only like 5 bucks or so though...
I needed a way to clean my pipes cuz they were nasty. I googled it. What else was I going to do? LOL I boiled them, soaked them in rubbing alcohol for a couple hours then boiled them again. Worked like a charm. THANKS!! :hippy::computerlove1:
Everything I have read is really long, so I'm going to put it in easy short steps. Cuz I'm really really baked.
!. Take 99% Iso and put in small cup with piece in it, fill till the piece is half submerged.
@. Leave it there for atleast 12 hrs. Then flip. Leave for another 12 hrs.
#.Drain nasty goo.(should be BLACK)
$.Place soaked piece into ziploc with salt(about 1/2 the piece in mass) and about the same amount of iso you used before.
%.Shake vigorously untill nice and dooky colored.
^. Repeat till clean.
&. Flush with hot ass water.
There.
